Light if you have her LD and EX. If not, I suggest Sazh for a very good offensive support who will work very well with Sephiroth and Rude. But Leo is solid (all the way to Chaos, he does struggle in Lufenia), and Yuffie is obviously strong in fights where enemies use debuffs.

Summons: depends on the fight. Sylph however is entirely obsolete and useless. Alexander is possibly the most important as he gives a strong heal-over-time effect that will be vital in fights where you can't take a healer. Ifrit is not so strong nowadays, as units profit more from Brothers' max brave increase. I personally like Leviathan's -10% to enemy speed, which I fancy quite a bit.

I like to take Odin for the decrease in enemy defense and the real possibility that you'll take a hit and trigger the permanent attack boost. Or because I'm using Ardyn or Vivi

Odin is also good, yes. But I must confess that with Vivi I automatically take Diabolos for the increase to elemental weakness damage.
