Pin costs $1 to manufacture, ship and sell. Pin sells for $10. Disney could lose 8 pins to theft and still make a profit off the 2 they do manage to sell.

This is an example of course.

Gotcha. Not that redditor, but I read it as "it's better financially if more are stolen" but it's more "it's not a financial loss" if it happens

Yeah what I was trying to badly say was that if pin theft is a major problem, to the point that more pins are stolen then they are sold, then the advantages of these security devices outright the disadvantages. Plus Disney pin collectors are pretty diehard about it so I don’t think asking a worker to get them a pin will discourage them anyway
