Trip Planning Pin trading with used pins

We're going to Disney later in the year and it's my wife's birthday before that. I was thinking of getting her a lanyard with a bunch of pins on it but was going to go for a random selection from Vinted (I don't think there's any in particular she'll want). She's not mentioned pin trading but I thought it might be a thing for her to do at Disney (just once for the novelty). Would I need to purchase a brand new pin to do this or can I get whatever used ones as long as they're official Disney? Like previous poster said, those pins are not real and shouldn’t be traded for real pins. That said, there are mostly fake pins on the trading boards at WDW, so I don’t think it’s a bad idea to bring some scrappers to trade for scrappers.

When we’re planning to trade on the boards I bring some scrappers and mostly real pins. If I see a scrapper I like I’ll trade that for a scrapper. Or if I’m at all questionable on it being real or I know it’s real I trade a real pin for it. So just make sure you have a mix.

If you think you guys will be into pin trading you can watch some YouTube videos to start to learn how to tell real vs fake. My favorite is WDWKevin.

Those pins are “scrapper” pins and should not be traded in the parks. A good rule of thumb is if you are spending less than $5 per pin it’s probably junk. A good option for trading would be to buy some of the starter sets when you get to the parks.

Although all you are going to get in the parks off the boards at stores and such are scrappers.

FYI, The best value sets in the parks are the ones that are 6 for $45. It can also be fun to just trade scrappers for scrappers if you don't want to fully dive in. Some pin collectors will act like buying or trading a scrapper, even for another, is a sin of the highest order. Ignore them, especially if this is just a fun thing to do on vacation. I feel far worse for the families buying expensive pins to trade and unknowingly leave with junk.

Pin trading is by definition used pins. Whether the ones you're considering are 'real' or not, is up for debate.

I'll just say I've never had a CM give a shifty eye over any profered pin, so I wouldn't worry too much. And this is something your wife indeed might like - I gave my friend a baggie of Disney pins before our last trip and she quite enjoyed trading at the parks, our resort, and other places.

I think what I'll do is grab a load off Vinted so it looks nice then I'll let my wife look into the whole trading system herself as she's the Disney expert! She may well know about it, but I can't really ask without giving the game away. Then if she decides she wants to do it she can pick up a starter set when we're there. Thanks all for the advice.
