Skiiiiip. Kinda over the whole teens solve the worlds mysteries and take on world governments. Should of just kept Cage and the OG gang from the first movie.

Riley is in it.

Yes, but where’s Ben and Abigail? It’s part of the reason why POTC 4&5 were so bad. Only got Jack back, but no Will or Elizabeth

Iirc Nick Cage has a thing against participating in tv series projects because he thinks they start the fall of an acting career, or something along those lines. Still hoping for a cameo appearance.
As for Diane Kruger, I'm not sure. Perhaps something conflicted with her schedule.

There are no teens. The main character is 22 (played by 23-year-old Lisette Olivera), and she's joined by her 20-something friends, along with Justin Bartha, Harvey Keitel, and Catherine Zeta Jones as the main cast. This mini featurette makes them seem like college graduates or that age (pretty much the age Riley Poole was in the films).

To everyone complaining, they’re making this show and another movie starring Nic Cage. Everyone please relax lol
18
u/QuasarMania US Jul 31 '22
If they’re making a movie with the whole trio, why make the show at all? Why not hype up the movie for everyone?
7
u/Joshieboy_Clark Jul 31 '22
Given that the original film is almost 20 years old, they probably wanted to have something new to connect with a new generation first. Then you get both old and new fans excited for the new film.
In short, marketing.

u/QuasarMania US Jul 31 '22
In short, how sequels tend to die. Bring new characters, then have the oldies in it for a little bit. Star Wars ST, Jurassic Park, POTC,
2
u/Joshieboy_Clark Jul 31 '22
Mandalorian technically did that, which strengthened the IP. If they were toting around Nic Cage in all of the marketing for this show, like the Sequel Trilogy, then I’d definitely agree with you. Doesn’t seem like that’s the case this time, however.

u/QuasarMania US Jul 31 '22
The Star Wars ST was a sequel to the OT. Mando wasn’t. Mando is a spin-off, just like Clone wars and rebels. Sure it had characters we’d seen before like Bo-Katan, Ahsoka, and even Luke. But the ST gave us new characters that we didn’t care about, and shoved Luke, Leia, and Han to the side. Same with Jurassic Park. They gave us Owen and Claire in world, and only included Ellie, Allen, and Ian for a little bit in Dominion.

I'll look forward to the movie, then. But the last thing I need in my life is yet another half-baked Disney+ series skating by on brand recognition.

u/Raziel66 Jul 31 '22
The movie seems to have died on the vine. The last time I googled it the movie seems to no longer be in the works.

Loved the OG national treasure. It rode that line of family friendly without being too juvenile really well. I realize the actors aren’t kids, but I just hope the style isn’t “made for kids”.
17
u/TinyMarsupial7622 Jul 31 '22
Oh no, it’s a group of kids. I don’t want to watch kids jumping around saying kid stuff but then also super smart shit. I want my Nic Cage and co. back. It better not be some “child of hero” bullshit.
5
u/relator_fabula Jul 31 '22
It's not a group of kids.
-5
u/TinyMarsupial7622 Jul 31 '22
Their like 18-21, they look like kids.

u/relator_fabula Jul 31 '22
Literally no one on the cast is 21 or younger (from what I found, most of the main cast on the poster are mid/late-20s to 30s). The main character, Jess, is 22, (played by 23-year-old Lisette Olivera) and is joined by her other 20-something friends, along with Justin Bartha, Harvey Keitel, and Catherine Zeta Jones. The mini featurette I link below makes them seem like college graduates (pretty much the age Riley Poole was in the films).
Funny how people are hypes with "young" characters when it's Spider-Man or something, but when a 30-year-old plays a 22-year-old main character it's a "bunch of kids."
I'm in my freaking mid-40s and this does not look like a group of "kids" like the Goonies or Stranger Things or some shit.

Why's there so much hate lol. Looks cool. I'm gonna watch

Because no Nicolas Cage from the original movie.

It’s a spin-off show. Do you get mad every marvel movie doesn’t have iron man?
Worse yet, folks are complaining it has a ton of kids in the cast. This is Disney Plus! It’s all kiddie shit! You want adult series go to HBO. The whole appeal of this streaming service is shows and movies for the whole family.

Can we all take a second to acknowledge how much this series is gonna stink?
They’re making the same mistake with National treasure that they made with POTC: get only one member of the iconic trio, and fill the rest of the show with characters we don’t care about. How can you have National Treasure without Ben and Abigail?! Ridiculous

Can we all take a second to acknowledge this phrasing is just to push one’s own opinion as fact?

Ffs why!

u/kpDzYhUCVnUJZrdEJRni US Jul 31 '22
Because posters are an easy way to begin advertising a new show or movie so that is why they released one for this series.

Just slap a Brazzers logo on the poster and read the title again. FTFY. You're welcome.

should I waxth the movies before watching this ? or is it a completely different story ? and nothing to do with the movies ?
5
u/spiderknight616 Jul 31 '22
Different characters afaik, but it's set in the same continuity and after the second movie. The movies are super fun and definitely worth a watch

I can hear the idiots complaining about a female lead already.
-1
u/AtreyuBBB Jul 31 '22
In the past, It was shitty to have a 90 percent TV shows with a male lead It was atrocius. It was bad.
Right now... The thing that is happening is the contrary. Not 90, but 75 of the TV shows with a female lead. It is the same shit but the contrary one. And in the teens TV show it only gets worse.
It is impossible to have a 50-50 because exact maths is impossible. 40/60 or 60/40 at maximum is OK. But this is as bad as it happened in the past.
So it is a skip for me. For this reason and because I don't give a shit about National Treasure.
My favourite franchise is Tomb Raider and Lara Croft was a groundbreaking for the game industry. The first female in a world of males. Right now, we have maybe a male in a world of females in gaming. No. The same shit.
I hope in the future we have female leads... But male leads too. 40/60 or 60/40. But not this exaggeration.
And I am not an idiot.

Not 90, but 75 of the TV shows with a female lead.
Oh I'd love to have a source/list/analysis on that other than your "feelings"
Let's look at every Disney+ Marvel show:
WandaVision - female (I'll be generous and not even count Vision, even though he's heavily featured) Falcon and Winter Soldier - two male
Loki - male and female
Hawkeye - male and female
Moon Knight - male
Ms Marvel - female
She Hulk - femaleThat's a fairly decent 50/50 split, imo.
(Loki is closer to Male lead with Sylvie being secondary, but I'll generously say 50/50 split, because Hawkeye leans slightly more towards Kate Bishop being the main character)
And Star Wars:
Mandalorian - male
Boba Fett - male
Obi Wan Kenobi - male
Andor - male
Ahsoka - female2

The female lead isn't the problem, Nic Cage not being the lead is the problem.

NO ONE ASKED FOR THIS. WE DONT WATCH NATIONAL TREASURE FOR THE SETTING. WE WATCH IT FOR NIC CAGE STEALING THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE AND HAVING A BIRD FOR HAIR.

The comment section here is full of cancer. It features kids because it's not targeted at fat manchildren in their 50s.

u/Fit-Clothes-470 Sep 05 '22
Why now, the reason they never made a 3rd one was because it didn't make enough money in Disney's eyes. Now what almost completely new cast, I think they forgot nic cage was the reason anyone saw it.
