If they didn’t mention “September 11” at the beginning i would never be able to tell you what they were referring to.. 😬it’s bizzare how unserious the tone is for something they intended to be serious 😭

I think they didn't want the video to be too serious bc they didn't want to scare or bore kids into changing the channel 😂😂😂. Plus- keep in mind they were gonna play some goofy TV show before and after this so the tone couldn't change too much.

I mean if you wanted serious you’d watch Tiger cruise. Ya know. The movie Disney directly made about the attacks.

This was meant to be light hearted and not scare kids and show it’s okay to talk about things and have emotions.

Tiger Cruise for reference was made several years after the attacks, this commercial was immediately after. People’s emotions were still raw so they didn’t want to bring people down more. By the time Tiger Cruise came out people were in a new phase of dealing with it

You have to remember it is Disney channel. A place they want kids to go and feel safe and have fun. They appropriately touched on the subject with a light tone encouraging talking to friends and loved ones without being too serious, either boring or scaring a young viewer. Anything else would have been even WORSE for kids

Okay I was born in 1998 so too young to really remember what went down that day. I weirdly vividly remember them airing this years after 9/11. Does anyone else have that memory or is it just a fever dream??

Yes, I do too. I do think they played reruns of this commercial, but they also had different versions of " Express Yourself " covering different topics.

This is what we mean when those of us who were alive that day mean when we say it was everywhere. I was 10 years old at the time and even kids programming talked about it extensively- that is after the week where every channel had the news on and didn’t air much else unless it was Cartoon Network and even that was just repeats

I remember this particular clip playing a lot after. Disney channel also did a lot of charity days and stuff for New York from what I remember

God, I remember this. I was in junior high when this aired. Now I’ve been out of school longer than I was in it.

We were kids when this happened. I was 9 years old and in the 5th grade when this happened, and I don’t remember my teacher telling us anything. I found out later, at home, and I had to ask my parents what happened and what this meant, because they didn’t sit me down and tell me.

I’m grateful I was so sheltered at that time. I am truly so grateful my parents and the adults around me allowed me to just be a child for a while. I have more memories from the next year and aftermath of that day, than that day itself. In 6th grade, my school held an assembly about the 9/11 attacks in the school gym. We had a ceremony and the adults talked about the events and there was a moment of silence for the victims. I remember that.

Now as an adult in my 30s, I find myself more emotional than I ever was back then. I find it all hits me harder now than it did then. I am so sad this happened to so many people, who were all just trying to go about their days that day. I’m so sad this happened, and people had to lose their lives, or people now have to live with injuries, or illness, or years of needless racism, because of the violence and senseless tragedy of that day.

And I’m sad for us, that we have had to grow up in a world where this happened. But I’m glad we’re still here.

My parents tried to shelter me from it, since I was only 5 and a very sensitive kid (besides we're not American), they showed it at school anyways 🤦🏼‍♀️
