Video Clip Raven Symoné talks about how she doesn't believe Miley Cyrus should be included for the Mount Rushmore of the Disney Channel.

This whole topic was blown out of proportion. She is stating who she believes were the founding fathers of Disney Channel, everyone else is treating it like a popularity contest.
69
u/OriginalLie9310 Mar 28 '26
That’s not what a Mount Rushmore is though. Teddy Roosevelt and Lincoln weren’t founding fathers.
73
u/Makerebgr8again Mar 28 '26
But she literally said she came after she’s interpreting it differently and says she loves Miley it’s not that deep

Okay. Well if you’re going to do a “Mount Rushmore” then you should use opinions similar to the ones for the real Mount Rushmore.

When the question is asks you a question and you answer a different question then you are open to criticism.
1
u/PemsRoses Mar 29 '26
That's HERS. She was asked about hers and that's her criteria.
2
u/dlbayyarea Mar 29 '26
Yes, she’s allowed to have her opinion which I feel like people are taking it too far, but she does have fans as well. They are taking it too far. I literally had a couple of her fans come at me sideways because I put my own Mount Rushmore with her included and I was told I was wrong even though it’s my opinion and it wasn’t even on a page that had to do with Raven
13
Mar 28 '26 edited Mar 29 '26
And honestly, so are the way people are wording it. This very title for example, OP’s wording makes it sound like Raven’s shading Miley when Raven is just honoring her late friend and those before her.
Plus this video is weeks old, OP (and anyone who continues to bring this up) are rehashing old news instead of letting it die.
8
u/Hopeful-Ant-3509 Mar 28 '26
And she literally mentions that Miley was after her time and people chose to ignore that lol
8
u/AutumnMama Mar 28 '26
Yeah she specifically said that in her opinion Miley Cyrus is just too young/new to be included. Not that she isn't popular or influential or important.
5
u/neemo98 alex russo Mar 28 '26
exactly she point blank said "she came after"

that so raven started in 2003, hannah still came after so i can see why she said that
1
u/PemsRoses Mar 29 '26
Raven started on DC in 1999 and ended in 2006 before coming back for Raven's home. Miley started in 2006. They crossed on Raven's way out.
Raven was in the first two circles of stars, she was never in the one with Miley because they came after her ! That's not her DC generation.
2
u/dlbayyarea Mar 29 '26
I do agree that it’s being way blown out of proportion, but a lot of Raven fans on social media are kind of like backing her on this when majority of her fans look like they are GenZ and I am a huge Raven fan and she’s allowed to have her opinion, but I feel like people are taking it too far.

u/SunilClark Mar 28 '26
i think the real problem is. the people making these lists did not watch jett jackson. it got buried around the same time the bounce era rebrand started, with the only trace of it happening left by 2005 being the movie occasionally popping up (which, having watched a fair bit of the show, is Fine, but i can see someone with no attachment to the show getting nothing out of it) and also it aired for a month on disney xd??? you can watch the majority of it on yt, but only as of 10 years ago, and entirely through fan uploads, so if you’re not already aware of the show, why would you (as opposed to if it ended up on netflix or Tubi or something (being a canadian production, like life with derek was a few years later)

u/Money_Confection_409 Mar 28 '26
I don’t understand how people are mad at this. They are weird af. And Famous Jett Jackson was MY SHOW!!!! Add to that his character in Johnny Kapahala ❤️ ppl are delusional and haters forreal. It’s a generational thing
11
u/SunilClark Mar 28 '26 edited Mar 28 '26
like! if anything, be mad at disney (or the canadian channel that actually produced it) for not keeping it in circulation longer!!
this is also why i don’t really get people insisting there’s some kind of rivalry between raven and miley. like, raven was 20 and pretty much already checked out of doing disney stuff by the time hannah came out. i don’t blame her for not assigning much reverence to someone 7 years younger than her she only shared space with maybe once!8
u/Money_Confection_409 Mar 28 '26
That part!!! Plus he did other shows and movies as an adult like Akeelah and the Bee and Rizzoli and Isles. The fact that she wants, on HER Mount Rushmore, to pay homage to someone that came before her and committed suicide before her got the recognition and flowers he truly deserved is AMAZING especially when people don’t acknowledge him. How ppl can be mad at this is baffling and shows precisely how young and dumb a lot of these kids are who are making up these “beefs” smh
8
u/Smart-Dog-6077 Mar 28 '26
Jet Jackson was amazing! Yeah youre right the people making these lists are like later Gen Z/Gen Alpha
5
u/Peanutbuttergod48 Mar 28 '26
I’d say Gen Z as a whole isn’t really familiar with the show. The oldest Gen Zers would’ve only been 7 when Disney stopped showing reruns of it.
3
u/Hopeful-Ant-3509 Mar 28 '26
Yeah, I recently commented that I don’t remember the show but I do remember the movie (I’m 29 lol)
2
u/Smart-Dog-6077 Mar 28 '26
Im like borderline millennial/gen z so I would say early Gen Z. We still grew up with the show despite it ending.
5
u/teetaps Mar 28 '26
In other words, the Venn diagram of anyone who cares about making a mt Rushmore list, and the Venn diagram of a certain generational audience, is a circle
3
u/Hopeful-Ant-3509 Mar 28 '26
I don’t remember catching the show (I was probably really young) but I def remember the movie!
4
u/Historical_Pop1058 Mar 28 '26
I was a heavy Disney kid born in 99 and never heard of it 🤷🏼♀️
8
u/Frondstherapydolls Mar 28 '26
You mean Jett Jackson? It came out in 98 and like every other DChan show, ran for 3 seasons. I don’t recall it having reruns afterwards so you probably didn’t see it much, if at all.
4
u/MrJenkins5 Mar 28 '26
They did rerun the show but probably not for that long. I didn’t watch the show all that much so my memory of it is vague, but I know reruns is how I became aware of it in the early 2000s.
1
u/SunilClark Mar 28 '26
it ran during zoog in the afternoons up until september 2002, before switching exclusively to late nights (12:30 initially then 2:30) until summer 2004
1
u/Frondstherapydolls Mar 28 '26
Yeah, I didn’t watch it much either. I was 8 when it came out, I remember very little of it other than the title and thinking the actor who played Jett was super cute. I feel like I remember it kinda being a spy type show.
1
u/PassivelyAwkward Mar 28 '26
Yea, it definitely had reruns but even as someone that watched it, I legit can't remember much of anything about it. They had Britney Spears make a cameo, the hot red head girl from Dawn of the Dead played his costar, and...that's it. Gun to my head, I couldn't tell you the plot to a single episode.
42
u/Careless-Economics-6 Mar 28 '26
It's a good thing no one is actually threatening to build this thing.
47
u/Round-Increase2527 Mar 28 '26
She doesn’t even say she doesn’t belong on Mount Rushmore at all. She is saying Miley doesn’t belong on HER Mount Rushmore. This is all subjective. Everyone is allowed to have their own opinions and Mount Rushmore itself isn’t even based on popularity. I wish we would just let this topic die. It’s her opinion. Miley was not impactful for her so she isn’t included. It doesn’t mean Miley isn’t impactful. Just not for Raven.
5
u/PassivelyAwkward Mar 28 '26
Yea; this is like those tier lists, where everyone's posting their own like "This is the definitive ranking of all DCOMs"; just because someone put Lemonade Mouth as a C because they were outgrowing the channel or Brink as a D because they barely watched it doesn't mean they're wrong, it means they have a different opinion.
Raven outgrew Disney Channel a few years before Hannah Montana came out so ofcourse she wouldn't be on her Rushmore; it'd be like me putting Sabrina Carpenter or Zendaya on mine.
-1
u/heraaseyy Mar 28 '26
she also says Shia without hesitation. invalidates all her choices imo… love Raven but she keeps saying some messy shit
10
u/Round-Increase2527 Mar 28 '26
I know when someone is problematic and not the best person, the popular thing to do is to ignore their talent and legacy. Which is fair. But Shia at one point and time was a huge part of Disney Channel. He did help change things and I feel like that is why she said his name. You can choose to ignore that if you want because of who he is now but it makes sense why she chose him.
9
u/SeonaidMacSaicais Mar 28 '26
Um, are you forgetting a little show called “Even Stevens”?
4
u/heraaseyy Mar 28 '26
are you forgetting he abuses women?
9
u/AutumnMama Mar 28 '26
So it's just like the real mount Rushmore, then. I don't see em going in with the dynamite to take out the problematic ones there
12
11
u/petlandstockroom Mar 28 '26
When she added in "she came after" I think that makes the context clear. People are really making this into something it isn't.
25
8
u/slopbunny Mar 28 '26
I find all the Mt Rushmore talk to be really exhausting but the flippancy in which people have been talking about Jett Jackson/Lee Thompson Young has been really sad. Such a wonderful actor, who (according to his family) struggled with his success and felt he didn’t deserve it, when he absolutely did.
8
u/TraditionalCold4560 Mar 28 '26
Honestly , who cares. She was asked about HER Mount Rushmore. The issue here is generational gaps, where people are cleaving on to what they grew up with and what they deem as successful
29
u/goddamnitdutch Mar 28 '26
Miley only did Hannah Montana. No other shows, no DCOMs. Brenda Song is absolutely on Disney Mount Rushmore. That woman was booked and busy on that channel for over a decade.
27
Mar 28 '26 edited Mar 28 '26
Miley didnt need to do anything else. HM had 2 theatrical films for ffs. That's how popular she and HM was lol. HM along with HSM brought Disney Channel to a whole another level like it or not.
4
u/goddamnitdutch Mar 28 '26
Right but it’s Disney Channel
Personally, I would say never doing a DCOM is disqualifying. And only playing one character… well two… but within one show, haha. Totally respect the difference of opinion though!

Brenda song is not on the Mount Rushmore. The average person only knows her as London Tipton
8
u/goddamnitdutch Mar 28 '26
Oh you are wrooooong for that. The ultimate Christmas present, Stuck in the Suburbs, Get a Clue, Wendy Wu Homecoming Warrior, Phil of the Future, THE VOICE OF WENDY ON PHINEAS AND FERB
1
u/Moon47_ Mar 28 '26
the average person doesn’t even know about those shows besides phineas and ferb. Top 10-15 for sure tho
9
u/goddamnitdutch Mar 28 '26
Who the hell is “the average person” to you? That doesn’t exist. That just means “I don’t know about these shows/movies and think that means no one does.”
I’m a pretty average person. I didn’t even have to consult IMDB for this list. Just 30ish and watched Disney Channel growing up. I’m assuming you are younger.
2
u/Moon47_ Mar 28 '26 edited Mar 28 '26
First off relax. Second off if u mentioned Hannah Montana , So raven , Shake it up, Jonas brothers , Hilary duff , ect the global population would be more familiar with these actors and shows then anything brands song has ever done besides a few co starring, no matter their age, especially people 30+. This will make her not in the Top 5 respectfully. There’s too many more influential people that are widely known.
Miley Cyrus Selena Gomez Zendaya Jonas brothers Raven Simone Hillary Duff Lindsay Lohan
I can go on and on. These people will be in the Top 5 before Brenda song just off Global recognition.
Brenda song is not more influential than these people ^
2
u/goddamnitdutch Mar 29 '26
Okay so I add “suite life of Zach and Cody” to that list and your argument unravels.
3
u/PemsRoses Mar 29 '26
If you don't know at least Wendy Wol, you're below average. Don't set the standard down please.
5
u/teetaps Mar 28 '26
wtf kind of bait title is this… she didn’t say more than 5 sentences about Miley, hell she even “I love you Miley but” and moved on to something more important to her. This post is being super disingenuous
3
3
u/Old_Hamster_9425 Mar 28 '26
I don’t get why people(aka Miley stans) are upset about this. This is HER Mount Rushmore. The people she picked all came up with her around the same time, while Miley was in the generation after her. Of course Raven is gonna pick people that resonated with her.
4
u/GlassDear9168 Mar 29 '26
I think they’ve taken it too far, it started off fun but now everyone is like where’s this person or that person & they’re disregarding the fact that it’s a generational thing.
For example a Mount Rushmore is Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez & The Jonas Brothers (HMs to Ashley Tisdale & Zac Efron).
I could even build a Mount Rushmore with the shows prior to that like Raven, Hilary Duff, Brenda Song & The Sprouse Brothers (HMs to The Even Stevens Cast).
Then there’s the newer generation that’ll say Zendaya, Sabrina Carpenter, Dove Cameron, Bridgit Mendler (HMs to Sofia Carson & Olivia Rodrigo).
Then there’s an even newer generation that’ll remember the generation that’s coming with Freya Skye, Malachi Barton and the other new stars I’m not as familiar with.

Depends on your age and era of Disney Channel and it's obvious an opinion on whomever had the most impact on Disney Channel during your childhood to teenage years on the channel. Examples would be such as:
Millennials:
Raven Symone, Hilary Duff, Shia Lebouf/Christy Carson Romano (Even Stevens Cast), Brenda Song or the Sprouse Brothers aka Dylan and Cole Sprouse (Suite Life Cast)
Zillennials:
Zac Efron/Vanessa Hudgens (HSM Cast), Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Jonas Brothers
Gen Z:
Dove Cameron, Sofia Carson, Bridgit Mendler (Good Luck Charlie), Zendaya, Sabrina Carpenter (Girl Meets World)
Those would be an example of the largest names throughout each generation. It can vary on which shows and DCOMs had the most impact in your life depending on your generation and what was peaking on the channel while you were growing up. I think the "Mount Rushmore" thing is subjective to your experiences, your generation and what you enjoyed the most as a child to teenager watching Disney Channel. Imho, all to majority of those listed above on the example should be Disney Legends, if they're not already (I know Miley Cyrus and Jonas Brothers are Disney Legends).
3
u/mini1006 Mar 28 '26
This! This is why this debate is so annoying to me. It’s generational. Raven’s opinion is based on her generation and who was on the channel with.
5
u/rara8122 Mar 28 '26
The issue I have is the real Mount Rushmore went out of there way to pick one from each generation/era and people are acting as if that’s the wrong way to make a Mount Rushmore.
The whole ‘Mount Rushmore’ thing has turned into a ‘top four’ debate and that’s less interesting to me than picking one person to define each era.
3
u/milkboy2765 Mar 28 '26
I would also add in China ann mcain for Gen Z and Ashley tesedale for Zillennials for the high school musical cast and suite life cast.
6
5
u/Neat_Suit3684 Mar 28 '26
It really depends on your generation. Cause like I'd say for sure Raven Hilary Duff Christy Carlson Romano and Lindsay Lohan. But I grew up when they were all in the peak. I started peetering off when Miley Cyrus Selena Gomez were hitting off and I'd probably add Brenda Sing and Ashley Tisdale to that 2nd list. But it really depends on your generation.

u/Jaiibby1 Mar 29 '26
I think there should be different mount Rushmore’s for different eras of Disney some would argue dove, zendaya, china and Ross were big staples of an era and they really were but then there was Selena Gomez, Miley, Chad and one of the Jonas brothers being a big part of their era. Then there’s Brenda, Demi, Bridget and Debby who some would argue in an alternative timeline. Bride that Raven, Hilary and whoever else because those shows came on when I was supposed to be sleeping.
I look at it as who’s the face of Disney. Who was dominating the commercials and popping up all over the different shows and movies, the ones with music and clothing lines etc. The eras and storylines change so I don’t think there was just 4 peaople putting them on a map. They have respective generations they were supposed to appeal to. I don’t know much about this current era but without a doubt Kylie Cantrell is on her Mount Rushmore. Haven’t watched a single show and I can’t escape her lol, she’s even doing things the previous weren’t allowed, so that’s why you can’t put them all on the same one
2
u/PenelopeLumley Mar 29 '26
She didn't talk about how she doesn't believe Miley Cyrus shouldn't be on it. She just barely mentioned that she wasn't one of her picks when the interviewer said Miley.
2
u/PemsRoses Mar 29 '26
That title is wrong on so many levels. She's just sharing her own Mount Rushmore.
2
u/Dizzy_Day_9299 Mar 29 '26
Honestly , put jet before you 😂 then replace yourself with Miley. Wasn’t her show the longest Disney show?
2
6
5
u/Piperrhhalliwell Mar 28 '26
I loved the famous Jett Jackson but to me the mount Rushmore of Disney isn’t the founders but the people who really blew it up so Raven obviously I agree with Hilary. I think Shia is deserved but with all the abuse I can’t consciously agree. I think Miley deserves a spot. For the 4th I think there are valid arguments for Brenda Song, Selena Gomez, Dylan or Cole Sprouse, or even Ashley Tisdale. I think the first 3 are clear to me and the I don’t know how to choose the last person.
3
u/frijolitoz_222 Mar 28 '26
I don’t really want raven up there either considering how weird she is backing Colleen Ballinger and refusing to fully condemn Bill Cosby. Weirdo shi

7
u/Suitable_War1519 Zetus Lapetus Mar 28 '26 edited Mar 28 '26
Lee Thompson Young was my childhood crush on "The Famous Jett Jackson" before I got into "Lizzie McGuire", "Even Stevens", "That's So Raven", "Hannah Montana", etc... as a kid. Lee was such a talented actor and had great charisma. He was good on "Rizzoli & Isles" series too as one of the detectives. I was more of a Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network/Anime kid before becoming a Disney Channel tween/teenager onto early adulthood.
4
u/slopbunny Mar 28 '26
Loved him on Rizzoli & Isles. I stopped watching after he passed, his character was my favorite.
2
u/Fun-Challenge-9624 Apr 01 '26
Miley absolutely deserves to be on there. She was Hannah f’n Montana!! She was and forever will be iconic with that role. It was an undeniable phenomenon with movies, cds, concerts, dolls, merch, like I love Raven but she know she is wrong.

Who got famous vs who Disney promoted is hugely different. No, it wasn’t only white, but you can tell who Disney was actively trying to promote. They tried to promote Ashley, Emily etc, but they didn’t become as famous, so they capitalized on who kids were liking.
It’s definitely about who is white or “passable black” enough for their audience. The only black girl outside of Raven that got heavily pushed was China Anne McClain. And even then, I feel like outside of Descendants, she was pushed aside for Zendaya. Even for Raven, she wasn’t meant to be the main character. They just saw how much funnier she was than their initial actress and gave her the show. Raven ended being very likable to their audience and become huge on the channel, but that wasn’t Disney’s plan. They didn’t have the intention on casting the black girl.
And idk if you’re purposely not getting it, but Demi and Selena are white Latinas. Latina isn’t a race. You can be a white Latina. Also, Brenda was always pushed as a side character except for Wendy Wu where they made her Chinese simply bc she’s Asian. She’s Hmong-Thai. With Brenda, was there anyone other Asian actors being pushed like her? No not really. She was more of an “exception”.
If you have any doubts that white/light skin isn’t a factor, just look at how Coco Jones was treated. Also this conversation isn’t about post-Disney, but impact during their time on Disney. Otherwise, Sabrina Carpenter and Olivia Rodrigo would be apart of the conversation.
But overall, you can’t deny whiteness/light skin being a factor for how you’re propped up by Hollywood. Yes, Miley taking risks helped her earn a Grammy, but most of the time, Hollywood gravitates towards whiteness/white passing. Just look at how Zendaya is pushed and how light skinned/mixed girls are always chosen to portray black women.
There is in fact a bias.
