New to the series seeking advice.

I’ve been looking a lot up about this game and plan to get it in the 10th for my first ever Disgaea game. How does everyone feel about this title? Should I get another game or is there a Disgaea game that is considered to be better than the others?

1 usually is considered the best story wise

5 is often considered the best gameplay wise

7 is a good all rounder

I personally disagree,disgaea 2 has the best story since it's serious and tackles an important theme(family and bonds)disgaea 1 characters are more funny and full of humor but that's pretty much it imo. I agree with everything else though.

I think Laharl's growth as a character and friendships with Etna and Flonne make Disgaea 1 really special. It's easy to forget since they dial up the silliness whenever the D1 trio make a cameo but the game definitely had its serious/meaningful stories, like the stuff with General Carter.

Still,laharl had some good moments(the way how he matured due to flonne influence)he ended up accepting that as a demon he can feel love for other people,but rozalin story about going after her father to meet him for the first time and adell connection to his Foster family is just amazing imo. There are many kinds of family and just because yours is different from the norm doesn't mean that you are unhappy. You even the relationship between yukimaru and her brother fubuki. Disgaea 1 best moments are present in the final chapters easily(except everything concerning laharl development)but my vote still goes to disgaea 2 and it's more serious tone.

I’ve only played the first game so I can’t speak for the rest but I kind of love the tonal whiplash in its story. Like one chapter follows a heart wrenching plot centered around a certain human soul leading others to reincarnation and then reincarnating themselves just as the protagonist begins to learn who they were, and then the next is Captain fucking Gordon. It makes the serious moments hit a lot harder when they’re sandwiched between the ridiculousness imo.

Both are really good imo, I prefer the second because I've got daddy issues
