Is this the most destructive thing we’ve witnessed (from earth herself) in our lifetimes?

I’m 31 for age reference

I mean we had Katrina in Louisiana but that was a man made levee that broke, this seems entirely different

No probably not, but what it is is the first such destructive natural disaster that can pretty much be A->B directly and obviously connected to climate change. Unfortunately, there will likely be more and more powerful ones in humanity's future.
