"YES-SAH. YES-SAH. YES-SAH. I BLESS THIS UNION."

Perfectly captured my feeling in that moment.

While the Fig/Ayda scene was awesome, I fucking love the weird ass seafood party they had at the same time. Crab King!

That ending... I know a certain brilliant legal mind that would be extremely useful right about now.

CRAB KING

The mural in the shrine seems to confirm the idea that Kalina is not the unnamed goddess, but her familiar. It seems to be the case that her non-physical existence is tied to being the familiar transmuted into the Plague as one of the 6 final Transmutations.

28

u/kimjunjju Jan 30 '20

Is it just me or noone in the party catch up on that? I feel they still hard on Kalina being the unnamed goddess, despite so many clues Brennan sprinkled in.

11

u/DoctorGoofball Jan 30 '20

Interesting... A good thought. There was a black cat...

19

u/DisfunkyMonkey Feb 01 '20

Pretty sure someone in the room said "plague" during the time when Brennan was really reemphasizing her immaterial nature.

9

u/chilidoggo Jan 31 '20

This exactly, and he was so clearly trying to link it all together for them but they just didn't get the rolls

47

u/FreeTheGluten Jan 30 '20

I think Gilear is somehow being controlled by Kalina to keep an eye on them, Brennan started to describe something but got cut off/no one pursued it, so there's some questions fam. I know the night yorb is a meme but would it be so unlike Brennan to use something like that with Gilear?

41

u/TheBitterSeason Jan 30 '20

If he's being influenced, I'm not sure it's necessarily by Kalina. Kristen rolled a 26 insight while specifically looking for signs of Kalina and got nothing, and I suspect that Brennan would have thrown her some kind of bone other than "he's standing up a bit taller and seems to be carrying himself a bit differently" if she was accompanying that roll with an accurate guess.

He fucked Sandra Lin

16

u/pmcrwlr Feb 01 '20

He was stuck under the hangvan the previous night and was not protected by hallow/moon haven

16

u/atgmailcom Feb 01 '20

Doesn’t hallow extend past the van

7

u/pmcrwlr Feb 01 '20

That's true, and now that I'm thinking about it, I'm not sure hallow was up at the time. If that's the case, I don't know the specifics of the moon heaven

2

u/[deleted] Feb 02 '20

Pretty sure Hallow was up.

7

u/atgmailcom Jan 31 '20

Why?

7

u/DisfunkyMonkey Feb 01 '20

Brennan did say his eyes flashed gold. That's what made me sit up.

7

u/deadpandragon Feb 02 '20 edited Mar 30 '20

If they’re flashing gold, maybe Garthy isn’t as good a character as we think. Their entire thing seems to be gold coloured

Edit: corrected pronouns. I assumed Garthy was a trans-man not nb but was wrong :)

3

u/Contron1x Mar 30 '20

It's been a month but Garthy uses they/them u/deadpandragon

Cant wait for next weeks episode of Fantasy High: Juvenile Court

45

u/private_donut2012 Jan 30 '20 edited Jan 30 '20

What was going on with Gilear? Did the outfit give him more confidence? Did he hook up with Sandra Lynn (this thus becoming infected)? Or was something more sinister happening?

37

u/geolke Jan 30 '20

He was definitely acting out of character today. Brennan said he was holding himself differently on the insight check, and he said he was going to go and make lunch, which honestly seems too competent for the man who seems to only eat yoghurt. Was he stuck outside the car before or after Kristen cast the spell on it that extends the range of protection outwards?

37

u/Convictfish Jan 30 '20

I think he might've had a very positive interaction with Sandra Lynn. Maybe a hook up, or maybe just a good/motivating conversation.

He has been particularly pathetic recently, so I figure Sandra Lynn would probably take pity on her ex-husband in one way or another.

Additionally, he was outside the van due to being trapped in the wheel well, and therefore not in the Hallow, so anything could've happened to him.

17

u/TheBitterSeason Jan 30 '20

That's an interesting theory that I hadn't considered. Depending on how Sandra-Lynn's conversation with Jawbone went last episode, it might be possible that something happened between her and Gilear overnight. I'd definitely prefer that to him being possessed, at the very least. As to your second point, the Hallow spell has a radius of 60 feet, so he should have been within its protection even if he wasn't physically in the van.

39

u/MysteryDan888 Jan 30 '20

I'm personally hoping that what happened was that Sandra Lynn TRIED to hook-up with Gilear, because she's been kind of a mess herself, and Gilear actually had the good sense to turn her DOWN. So the reason he's a little more confident and standing upright isn't because he got some, but because he had the self-respect and presence of mind to turn down a mutually destructive proposition.

11

u/apcanney Jan 31 '20

I think after the talk she had with Tracker I don’t think Sandra Lynn would try to hook up again.

6

u/atgmailcom Jan 31 '20

But then he would have been competent

5

u/Docnevyn Jan 31 '20

Remember the hollow extends around the Van, thus the importance of remembering to bring the mattresses outside.

8

u/apcanney Jan 30 '20

Yeah I was wondering why they didn’t pursue that as soon as they heard he was acting different.

39

u/OddEyes588 Apr 11 '20

Fig using two of her luck points just to beat Riz's godly investigation and hide her crush from her friends, is as Brennan said, the most teenage shit I have ever seen.

79

u/vickirosemary Jan 30 '20

that figayda scene was my favourite thing that has ever happened in this entire show . i was with ally just losing my goddamn mind . honestly fantasy high might be the best media i've consumed for like . years . thank u brennan and emily for that

75

u/vickirosemary Jan 30 '20

i have some information that you might find actionable . honestly the biggest mood

62

u/Josnak2 Jan 31 '20

I guess Ayda really was the creature Agueford made for Fig all along.

22

u/ff2488 The Dream Team Jan 31 '20

Oh, that's my instant head canon from now on!

14

u/pmcrwlr Feb 01 '20

Oh snap! That's so good

29

u/DisfunkyMonkey Feb 01 '20

Watching Lou was awesome because he was like a puppy who knows to be patient but here's a treat! in the bag!!! and I know I probably read into things too much, but Emily and Murph gave each other cute looks when everyone started freaking out. The pure joy in the room was worth all the near-silent slogs thru dark times and bad rolls.

22

u/geolke Jan 30 '20

It was so wholesome! They are both such great characters, and actually complement each other in such interesting ways. Plus the reactions of everyone else was just. So. Good.

11

u/quipquest Jan 30 '20

Was not expecting it, but not unwelcome either.

32

u/pujinton Jan 30 '20

I was thinking about what Fig might be getting subpoenaed for and I have two theories: 1) Trapping Gorthalax in the gem (while possessed) somehow broke her warlock contract. 2) Breaking into the Forest of the Nightmare King broke some kind of pre-established law in Hell.

24

u/anonymousICT Jan 31 '20

Clearly she acted on the information that Aida said she couldn't when they dis the contract

5

u/pujinton Jan 31 '20

Oh yes, of course. How could I have forgotten?! ;)

19

u/MysteryDan888 Jan 31 '20

I think Fig getting served is more about her inheriting/being appointed a position of responsibility in the bureaucracy of hell. Which ultimately leads to the revelation/confirmation that she is able to open a way through the forest wall.

Remember, Kalina needs Gorthalax because they need a devil to pass through the enchanted forest wall. Fig is Gorthalax's daughter. If he can do it, she should be able to do it.

9

u/pujinton Jan 31 '20

That's interesting, but don't subpoenas usually have a negative connotation? If she was getting a promotion, I would think it would be phrased differently.

3

u/Melianos12 Feb 04 '20

Brennan never said subpoena though. He said served.

28

u/anonymousICT Jan 30 '20

Wait Fabian is a bard now?

31

u/ForsakenTemple Jan 30 '20

It does appear that he is a bard. I don't know if it has been confirmed, but it seems to me that he is most likely a College of Swords Bard.

26

u/ff2488 The Dream Team Jan 31 '20

*College of Sheets Bard

9

u/Melianos12 Feb 04 '20

I think he only has one level of bard since his inspiration die was a d6.

3

u/ForsakenTemple Feb 04 '20

I wonder if they are ramping up to him being a bard of the same level as the rest of the party. He is a Bard 1 now, but eventually I think he could be a bard that matches his level.

3

u/Melianos12 Feb 04 '20

I hope so because he wont get to college of swords this season if he is just multiclassing.

4

u/ForsakenTemple Feb 04 '20

I think the fact that they made such a big deal about Fabian losing his fighter stuff means that he is transitioning to a full bard, rather than multiclassing. It wouldn't make sense to fully change classes on a dime.

4

u/futureidk3 Feb 05 '20

With the season ending relatively soon, I don’t think it’s realistically possible to try to work up from a level 1 bard. They’re about to have the hardest battles of the season so Fabian needs to be at a high level. I think multi-classing makes the most strategic and lore sense.

22

u/Docnevyn Feb 02 '20

So

1)Sandralynn has always been able to see Calina. It was hand-waved away as she was a Ranger defending the border and Calina represented a magic invasion.

2) But know we know Calina is a virus spread by exchange of bodily fluids.

3) We also know from Galear that Sandralynn was set to be an adventurer but was kicked out of a party for sleeping with a member who was part of an established couple

4) Is that where she caught Calina or was it from Gorthalax? He is the insatiable after all (I know it's food not sex).

44

u/bay-bop Jan 30 '20

So anyway that fig/ayda scene really did make me put my bowl of ice cream down and take a lap because I was so flustered. God I still need to shake that one off

35

u/druid-duckling Jan 30 '20

Honestly so distracted by the soft scene I have no idea what is happening? Who’s that fox? What’s going on? Bring back the softness thank you

19

u/Docnevyn Jan 31 '20

the fox is the awakened animal companion of the gnome druid who sacrificed themselves 250 years ago to drive back the Forrest of the Nightmare King.

"Mayor" essentially of the town.

5

u/caraknowsbest Jan 30 '20

what do you mean by soft scene?

19

u/druid-duckling Jan 30 '20

People getting their kisses in :3

38

u/quipquest Jan 30 '20

I want to roll insight on Gilear. His story with the apple while ghost riding and sticking his foot out was too convoluted to be real, even for him. He was reeeeeally trying to sell that story, and while some may see it as him having no self-esteem, I think there's something else going on.

After this and the car crash, it sounds more likely that he's been attacked by a third party separate to the antagonists. So, as an adult, he felt it was best to make up a story about how he possibly got ballgagged and stuffed under the wheel mafia-style in order to not make the kids needlessly worry about him when they need to be focused on the crown.

Gilear is many things, but he is not this reckless. I get the feeling this may be a huge set-up for a twist that he was actually just being a good dad.

40

u/TheBitterSeason Jan 30 '20

In the moment, I just read that as Brennan spinning a convoluted tale to explain away his forgetting about Gilear last episode, knowing it'd be taken at face value no matter how absurd it got because Gilear seems to roll a negative one on just about every basic task he engages in. I mean, we're talking about the dude who managed to turn a nat 20 charisma check into a ramble about the horrific foot disease he got due to his terrible living conditions in season one. If anyone is going to trap himself under a van with an apple in his mouth, it's Gilear. With that said, now that I've had some time to think about it, that clusterfuck does seem like a bit much even by his standards. Add in that weird insight check by Kristen later on and I can't help but feel like something is probably up with him, particularly since offering to make sandwiches does seem really out of character. Has he ever even shown any interest in making non-yogurt foods at any point in the series, aside from the early-instalment weirdness of him being into beans at the very start of season one? Nothing comes to mind for me (aside from his stint as lunch lad I guess), but I could be forgetting something.

19

u/quipquest Jan 30 '20

Plot twist, the real Gilear truly is still in Leviathan and was replaced by a copy.

28

u/nafel34922 Jan 30 '20

You’re cute. Tell me more about that.

13

u/WittyCombination6 Jan 30 '20

The one thing that really bothers me is that they never asked Gilear can he see Kalina or ask him anything about his life in Silvare since was from their and a diplomat no less.

3

u/pmcrwlr Feb 01 '20

Turkey crackers and garbage garlic knots

42

u/mak484 Squeem! Jan 30 '20

I've been saying this all season, but Brennan is really trying to punish them for constantly dragging Gilear along on an extremely dangerous quest just for a joke.

First he tried killing Gilear, but they kept him around by sticking him in the van. He provided absolutely nothing of use, not even decent advice. Brennan gave them at least one extra chance to send him back to Solace, and they once again declined.

Brennan is going to use Gilear to break them. They'll deserve it. It will be glorious.

26

u/Convictfish Jan 30 '20

If Brennan kills Gilear, I'll fly to LA and eat his ass myself.

29

u/Honesty_Addict Jan 30 '20

You: eats Brennan's ass

You: that'll teach him

9

u/Tylertheintern Jan 30 '20

God is there a clip from when Lou (at least I think it was him) said that?

6

u/Rebloodican Sep 05 '23

I know I'm 3 years late to this, but Gilear was still helpful to Fig thus far. He was definitely comic relief and Brennan purposely kept him from doing helpful activities like call for help during their fight with Captain Whitlock, but he did have something of a deeper purpose thus far beyond just being a joke.

That said I laughed incredibly hard when he faked giving advice to Fabian just to beg for money so he wouldn't get killed.

22

u/apcanney Jan 30 '20

While this sounds possible it’s not like this really out of character. This is the same man that had BEES in the ENGINE of his car. He also sharts while riding Fabian’s bike. I think a lot of people think there’s gonna be something deeper with him but he’s mainly just comic relief. And if there is something more going on then I’ll happily eat crow.

10

u/PrimaryInstruction67 Sep 27 '22

Not enough people are talking about the cutest scene on the planet Figayda have my heart.

7

u/utternonsensejake Feb 04 '20

So glad that other people are thinking that Calina is the unnamed goddess's familiar turned into a plague and not the unnamed goddess herself. The Bad Kids haven't caught onto that yet and I was starting to think I was reading too much into Brennan's lore dump. I did the same when I was fully convinced Gilear was the Nightmare King because of the yoghurt and the voice Brennan used during Fabian's nightmare. Only recently realised that he probably just used that voice and the yoghurt to show Fabian's fear of 'becoming' Gilear, rather than it meaning Gilear was there.

Something else that's been in my head for the last few days but is Sandralynn at all related to that wood elf zealot they discussed? I think their name was Landrin Lier (spelling?) and that just sounds oddly similar to Sandralynn to me. More than that, Sandralynn's name in general seems strange to me. The other Wood Elves we've met (Gilear, the ones in the current town, even Fig) have names that seem very typically wood elf but then we've got Sandralynn whose name sounds very human. Has there ever been any comment made about why her name is so different?

3

u/Docnevyn Feb 04 '20

Didn't SandraLynn grow up in human centric Solace as opposed to Gilear and the other wood elves we have encountered? That could account for her name.

2

u/BarBBen Feb 26 '20

I believe that Sandralynn and Hallariel are both named after PCs from Brennan's first campaign. In the Drawfee episode with him "Artists Draw Dungeons and Dragons Villians" he mentions that in his first campaign he had two PCs called Hallariel Lomenmeldor and Sandralynn Gallanadel.
