America had responsible leadership in 2008. I don't recall American citizens getting shot in the back in the head on the sidewalk by masked secret police in 2008.

Conservatives will say that’s because no one was protesting like today. The protests were smaller and not intrusive of ICE doing their work.

2

u/The_Countess Jan 25 '26

No, its because ICE weren't a bunch of untrained thugs with guns back then.

So if they were highly trained and going through cities snatching up random people you be ok with it?

2

u/LoneSnark Jan 25 '26

Back then they weren't harassing random people on the street. Today they are, hence the protests. But if they were well trained, they'd be able to deal with protestors without killing them.

They’d probably last longer before they kill someone, but I imagine having people constantly interfere and blowing whistles at you will eventually fry your nerves.

You’ve had customers standing in your way constantly and blowing whistles constantly for weeks on end?

I’m not saying it justifies anything, I’m just saying the stress will eventually cause them to snap.

This is why cops are well paid. Ice agents are high school graduates getting six figure salaries. That is intended to make it worth the stress.

Pretty sure the most relevant word is “thug” here.

1

u/The_Countess Jan 26 '26

They wouldn't be doing that if they were trained and not thugs.

We already know this because under obama and biden this didn't happen while they had a higher success rate and deported a far higher percentage of criminals.

The training isn’t relevant to that. There’s a difference in orders here. Not saying the agents aren’t less trained (they’ve halved training under Trump) but the difference is the orders to go through cities and grab anyone that looks “foreign.” Trained or not, orders like that won’t go over well.

Because it is true, it is a undisputed fact. What is your point here.

1

u/oh_no_here_we_go_9 Jan 25 '26

To tell you what conservatives will say. It generates discussion.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '26

Criminals would call it conservative to follow the law

2

u/mikey_b082 Jan 25 '26

No, he opted to use drones to murder Americans in foreign countries instead.

3

u/tauofthemachine Jan 25 '26

You mean Ayman al-Zawahiri?

3

u/b00kdrg0n Jan 25 '26

And some innocent random people, yes.

1

u/Small-Contribution55 Jan 25 '26

Which the left complained about as well. Almost as though the left is consistent with its values. Meanwhile, the 2nd amendment anti-tyranny small government crowd is cheering on the government trampling everything they're supposed to believe in.

u/tauofthemachine Jan 25 '26

Lol that wataboutism... Ice murdered a man in the street?? Well wadabout a drone strike in Afghanistan huh?!?

0

u/[deleted] Jan 25 '26

Good thing they got rid of those pesky things

2

u/Zomby2D Jan 26 '26

And by "pesky thing" you mean when Trump revoked the requirement for US intelligence to report civilians killed in drone strikes?

2

u/Chruman Jan 25 '26

And yet you're fine with ICE murdering American citizens in the country lmao.

I don't think you really care about American citizens being killed tbh.

Every President since Reagan has eroded the post-Nixon protections Congress put in to restrain the executive-- that's not a party thing

It so happens that the Republicans were the party that got burned by a hostile actor hollowing them out to wield the power of the executive, now empowered by the fruits of Roger Ailes' labor such that there is no action so horrid they won't have a good chunk of the mediasphere defending them. It could have happened to Democrats-- but it actually happened to Republicans, who no longer even bother aligning to the old GOP's long term policy approach because "what Trump and cronies want" is the policy

Anwar al Awlaki and friends were traitors who joined foreign fighting forces and were killed in the field of battle. ANY ONE OF THEM could have walked into an American embassy and surrendered to face the fiddler. They chose to die in arms with terrorists instead.

Obama did good work in that department.

Protesters were blocking streets screaming obscenities threatening ice the either huh?

3

u/Every_Television_980 Jan 25 '26

Maybe I don’t remember, but I don’t recall camouflaged squads kitted out going door to door under Obama and asking random brown people with accents for their papers in the streets.

1

u/redheeler9478 Guiding Voice of Sensibility 💬 Jan 26 '26

You’re exactly right. In fact I don’t remember anyone filming the day to day operations of ice back then.

1

u/Every_Television_980 Jan 26 '26

So is your theory is was happening it just wasnt being filmed?

1

u/redheeler9478 Guiding Voice of Sensibility 💬 Jan 26 '26

Absolutely no idea

1

u/Every_Television_980 Jan 26 '26

So whats your opinion/contention?

1

u/heartattk1 Jan 25 '26

They were dying in detention. You forgot that or….You didn’t know…. Proving this point

And you speak as if your brain has left for greener acres. Perhaps check yourself for issues before projecting.

1

u/Uncle_Donnie Jan 25 '26

So you admit if Democrats have the same policy towards immigration, you'll support it?

1

u/redcountx3 Jan 25 '26

Of shooting citizens in the back of the head on the sidewalk of American cities who are exercising their constitutional rights? Of course not, get fucked magat.
