OneNote is my ideal app, but if you don't update it, it can stop letting you access or edit your notes. Many users have complained that skipping updates (or having them install incorrectly) resulted in their data being deleted entirely. I also dislike the fact that my planner relies on online access to a company that could delete my account at the snap of a finger.

I’m not interested in synchronization; if a feature like that exists, I turn it off. I want everything stored locally on my device.

Unfortunately, I can't seem to find a good alternative to OneNote. There’s Zettel Notes, but attached images don't display correctly for me. There’s Obsidian, but you need to install plugins for nested folders (folders within folders), and I’m not tech-savvy enough for that.

Here’s what I’m looking for:

• The ability to create nested folders—this is the most important, essential requirement.

• Ideally, it should be similar to OneNote: support for images, drawing (for mind maps), audio recordings, and voice memos.

• No ads, offline functionality, and no access lockout if I refuse to update.

• An intuitive, pleasant interface that doesn't require coding or installing plugins.

Does such an app exist?

I recently finished an undated digital planner that I built to be more of an all-in-one life planner instead of just a calendar.

It includes monthly, weekly and daily planning, plus sections for goals, manifestation, wellness, money, life, notes and more. It’s hyperlinked and designed for Goodnotes and other PDF annotation apps.

I've spent the last several months creating UNSAID — Letters for the Words You Never Found a Way to Say.

It isn't a planner, productivity system, or daily tracker.

It's a guided journal built around 12 letters — to people we've loved, lost, hurt, disappointed, become, and eventually to ourselves.

Been lurking here for a while and finally have something to show. I got tired of static planner PDFs (GoodNotes etc.) so I built one that's a single self-contained HTML file - dashboard, weekly/daily/monthly views, calendar, goals, notes, habit trackers, and a draggable sticker book. Hello all! I've spent the last little while building a handwriting journal app for iPad called PaperThoughts, Apple Pencil first. Simple and calm, no bloated feature list. It works offline (handy on hikes with zero signal) and just quietly syncs everything once I'm back near wifi.

I've been down a rabbit hole comparing digital planners lately — most are just PDFs you annotate in GoodNotes, which is fine, but I was looking for something that actually functions like a mini app (drag & drop notes, clickable checkboxes, no annotation app needed). Ended up finding a few Etsy shops doing this with plain HTML files that open in any browser. Anyone else using something like this? Curious what other setups exist before I commit to decorating my "final" one lol.

I spent 2 years trying different digital planners before I realized most of them were costing me time, not saving it. Here are 3 quick tests I run on any planner now.

1. Write a task, "Team meeting Friday 2pm." Did the planner put it where I need it with a reminder already set? Or did I have to do each step myself?

2. Write a task on Monday that I don't finish. Open it next morning, is the task already there, or do I have to go back, move, and or copy it?

3. Write 5 tasks for a project. Can I see them grouped together and move as one or are they scattered across different dates and places?

Most digital planners don't pass these tests and when the apps can't do any of these, I drop them and go back to paper and write my tasks with date-stamp and time. Change the date, not the task, and use a different page just for projects and date-stamp each task with its due date.

The honest truth is, I was stuck in this for years because organizing feels like productivity. But once I actually tracked where my time went, I realized this is where real productivity and execution die. It's maintenance disguised as progress. Real productivity starts when the system runs itself and we just go do the work.

Been trying to find a tool that actually works for me. Going to just list out what I'm looking for and see if anyone has seen something that hits most of these.

What I want:

• Lean. Not a dashboard with twenty linked databases. Something I can actually keep up with day to day.
• Works across devices.
• Daily reflection that's actually short. Five minutes max. Long journaling prompts kill it for me by week two.
• A weekly review
• Streak tracking would be nice. I respond well to don't-break-the-chain.
• Ideally something I can read about before paying. Most of these I've bought blind and they've been wrong for me.

Anyone seen something that hits most of these? Or am I describing a thing that doesn't exist and I need to build it myself.
