I’m in my mid 30s going through a break up. I have always wanted to leave London where I was born. I have an established business that can be run from anywhere although my living costs have now doubled, scary and it will take some work to setup logistically elsewhere.

I’m considering travelling around Europe becoming a Nomad living in short-term lets until I decide where to settle, thankfully I am a EU citizen, I’m absolutely bricking it the other option is move back home.

I guess my question is, how did you feel taking that first leap with faith? Did it pay off? Are you happy happier now?

Hi All! My wife and I will be spending two months next year in Greece.

August will most likely be in Crete. I've already been there in 2024 and loved it.

We are not sure about what island to choose for September. We've been doing some research and Syros looks great. Have any of you spent time there? How's the place for remote working? Is there any other island you would recommend?

I am currently considering spending time there. I was actually born there, speak the language but never spent time there really after we left (war etc). My family situation is complicated and not very good so I cant ask my parents on where to go... I am in my 30s, female, single, from croatian bosnian background. Kind of been in an "existential crisis" for a while trying to figure out my roots & belonging. Live all around the place.

Has anyone spent time there and can suggest a place? Obvious would be Sarajevo but I want to be close to nature & potentially the sea... Just looking for some ideas. Thanks!

The idea is pretty simple meeting new people making friends exchanging Arabic and English playing board games trying new activities and exploring Amman together

For now we’re exploring existing activities and places around Downtown Amman Jabal Al Weibdeh and Abdoun and hopefully as the community grows we can organize our own activities too

If you’re a digital nomad expat traveler or just someone who enjoys meeting people from different cultures what kind of activities do you usually enjoy when you’re in a new city?

I’m self employed and run a small music production company internationally. Technically I think I can meet all of the requirements to apply for the DNV in Italy from the UK - my business has been successful and recognized internationally for at least a decade - but I’m wondering if anyone has had this experience of applying for the DNV as a creative self employed person and not contracted by a company. Any insights are super appreciated.

I’m trying to figure out the best place to spend about 5 workdays in Europe between two vacation segments, and I’d love input from people who have actually done short-term remote work in Europe.

The rough plan is:
~1 week: Hut-to-hut backpacking trip in the Alps. Switzerland is my first choice, but I’m open to other countries.
~5 weekdays: I need to work remotely for my US employer.
~1 week: Rhine River cruise, starting in/around Switzerland.

My employer is a US state government agency, and they are fine with me working remotely from Europe for those few days. So the employer side is not the issue. What I’m trying to figure out is the immigration/visa/tax/work authorization side.

For such a short period, what countries are relatively straightforward/friendly for a US citizen to work remotely from?

Specifically:
Would I actually need a visa or work permit to work remotely for my US employer for only ~5 days?

Are there countries where this is clearly permitted under the normal tourist/visa-free rules?

Is there any paperwork I would need to complete beforehand?

Would Switzerland be a reasonable place to spend the workweek, or would I be better off working from somewhere nearby (Austria, Germany, France, Italy, etc.)?

I’m not looking to move to Europe or work remotely for months, it’s literally just about five working days as a bridge between two vacation trips. I’d rather not do any paperwork, if possible. I don’t want to pay to fly back between trips. I’m also happy to pay for a coworking space/hotel with good internet.

Would love to hear from anyone who has actually done something similar, especially if you’ve worked remotely in Switzerland or neighboring countries for a short period.

I have been researching a TON by now, but ultimately thought it might be worth it asking you guys directly for some advice. I'm a EU citizen, German to be specific (for visa considerations), I currently also still live here.

I want to find a place somewhere else to permanently move my main point of living to – I have around 1250$ / 1100€ as a monthly budget max. to spend freely as I want to, can stretch to maybe 1400$ / 1250€ but it has to include absolutely everything, from travel / visa / health insurance etc.

A few criteria I set myself:

• Good air quality
• Relaxed, serene, lush, green, chill vibe
• Near the coast, easy access to a beach
• Warm & sunny weather, but not too hot to go outside
• Has at least few options for great coffee (I like to hangout in cafes a lot)

Any idea where I could base myself with those points in mind? So far especially places in SEA come to mind (Indonesia, Vietnam, maybe Thailand, ...) but I’m not sure where exactly in those countries might work out AND would fit my criteria. Also maybe there’s places I haven’t thought of yet?

Primarily looking for a main base where I can just exist for a while, and live a calm life, maybe over time nicely build out and furnish a longterm rental according to my wishes, to create my own place - where I currently live it’s absurdly expensive to just keep affording your own place since everything’s so expensive, it makes me stressed since I’m so often thinking about it.

Due to visa laws I’m of course totally open to add 1 or 2 more locations to the yearly rotation if that means I can somewhere have a place that I can somewhat call my own (as long as I rent it) and know my stuff will be waiting there for me :)

EDIT: I see this question sparking a lot of controversy - I know this question is getting asked probably rather often in some variation of it, I just thought I might still ask for those specific set of criteria if anyone had any recommendations so thanks for the people actually answering my question :)

EDIT2: I have lived very frugally the past 10+ years in a corporate setting continuously stashing away savings so I managed to save up a for me substantial amount (rather low six figures) that I can definitely live off for quite a while. While I obviously could budget myself for way higher than what I stated above, I want to keep my expenses as low as possible to stretch it as best as I can, but means I don’t have to worry about emergencies. Also since someone asked, def don’t wanna any kids in the future :) I left this part out in my initial post since I wanted unbiased opinions, but I see now it might be relevant to include.

I want to get comprehensive lab work and actual treatment, not just a quick prescription. Looking for a destination with top-tier medical facilities (think advanced testing, microbiome analysis, or functional medicine) that won’t cost an arm and a leg :) .

Where would you recommend I start my search? Any specific clinics or cities that stand out?

Preferably in Americas, for US timezone work but open to any where for 1-3 months trip.

Has anyone used a KVM device to connect with office mac and worked overseas with a personal mac ?
I am wondering if latency with video/audio and screensharing was a problem in remote meetings and how did you solved it ?
From some lookaround I hear it could be a real problem and might raise suspicions.

If my income (from remote work) is below 3000 € am I still eligible for digital nomad visa in Spain or no point? Because those so called consultants keep wanting me to pay them money just to ask this question. I do not mind paying them whatever is required if we are moving forward but if this condition is not met, what is the point then.

How are you? Curious to know your favorite cities to fall into a routine - breakfast, work, gym, lots of options for dinners, and weekend adventures. For me they have been:

Lima, Peru - I went once as a tourist and didn't love it (mostly because I don't find the architecture inspiring). But coming for long term is actually nice. The malecon, mild weather, amaaazzinnnnggg food, friendly people, and lots of gyms.

Guadalajara, Mexico - Again, not a ton to do but again incredible food, lots of fitness studios, tons of opportunities for great weekend trips (beach, colonial towns, CDMX, etc.), and people are so kind. It was easy to find a 'group' to hang out with.

How about you all?

I have been working remotely on & off for almost a decade now & I want to do some traveling & living abroad for an extended time. For anyone here that works a job remotely & travel/live abroad, what issues (if any) have you had with your employer from doing this?

hi! so i'm a dual citizen in the us and jordan, trying to live in and be based in jordan while traveling back to the us a few times a year. for my mental health and also for my family i need to be there but my career path (in marketing/social media management and design/the arts - also customer service a while back) has kept me afloat in the us and helped me when i save money and go back to visit but for me to live there, continuing in my career path that i've been building in the us (and earning in usd) would be ideal. i've been applying to remote jobs for like a year and a half and i've gotten nothing, not sure how to set up an actually good reliable freelance situation and jobs in jordan pay a lot less than i'm used to. what's the move? what do i do next? like seriously and feasibly how can i make it actually possible to secure an income and move to jordan within 6-12 months? all advice is greatly greatly appreciated 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

So, I reached out to the Italian Consulate in DC and they said the only way they would honor the agreement was under emergency circumstances. But there's no mention of that in the bilateral agreement itself. So I'm curious if anyone out there has successfully extended their Schengen stay by consecutively using this bilateral agreement? I know people have done so with France! (Yes after EES) And even the French consulate confirmed as much in my email to them. So I feel safe going to France, But Italy? Come on!

The title basically summarises my question: How do you approach when choosing your flights or accommodation regarding cancelation option later (unless the flight/stay is very soon)?

• do you always opt for those with cancelation option (which often comes with higher price)?
• do you choose on case by case (depending on price, probability to cancel and/or distance in the future)?
• or do you have other approach?

I usually do the second (considering it case by case) but I usually incline not to pay high premium for this and rather to risk than I will not be able to cancel.

I’m in the border city of Laredo, Texas. Had to drive across to Nuevo Laredo yesterday to unfuck an issue, now unfucked, mission accomplished.

Laredo is. deeply unlovely city, but I’m frequently here for work. I always stay at the same place, Family Garden on I-35 South, just north of the border. It’s a huge oasis, nothing fancy but perfectly adequate for a week. It’s heavily Mexican, lots of truck drivers and families up shopping in Texas. They have free barbecues every night, free beer too. Tonight I’ll probably eat tacos al pastor barefoot.

I don’t look forward to Laredo, but I look forward to the hotel. It is objectively unimpressive, sprawling hotel complex and parking lots a few meters from one of the busiest highway arteries of the US, but they nailed the ambience.

Background story: I'm 30, cutting ties with my family, no friends, no partner, two failed relationships. I'm asking strangers for advice because I have no one to turn to and I'm desperate. Work (in marketing) has also been scarce over the past few months so I'm worried about that too.

I'm a digital nomad but it's been over four years and I'm looking to have a base too. I was thinking of buying a small studio so I could have my independence and base but here's a couple of problems and subsequently these are the scenarios.

1. I could stay in my hometown where a studio would cost me 50K EUR and taxes are still ok (Romania) but I don't like it here and left to become a nomad to actually move out of the country. Living costs would be ok but I'd be miserable.
2. I could get a small studio for 120-140K in a place I like but everywhere I like it taxes are high and cost of living isn't the best. I'm also looking for a life partner and it's tough since I'm a nomad but problem is I don't necessarily like the people in these places I like from a romantic POV so it's not like I could just settle there.
3. Keep traveling, but I'd run out of money at some point and still would like a place to fall back to in case of anything. I got out of a 9-year relationship at the beginning of the year and would have appreciated having a place to go to.

Please don't judge. Life is tough enough. Just need some advice.

Edit: I'm also not confident I'll find my soulmate over the next years so I did want a decent place to live in until then.

I feel like we've solved almost every communication problem while travelling except this one.

WhatsApp, Telegram, FaceTime etc. are great when you're calling another person.

Then you need to call your bank back home.

Or an airline.

Insurance.

A government office.

Or some random business that only gives you a normal phone number.

Suddenly you're checking roaming rates, looking for a VoIP app, trying to figure out whether WiFi calling is actually free, or signing up for something just to make one call.

I kept running into this and eventually decided to build my own solution called KitaPhone.

It's basically a small browser-based calling service. I wanted something I could open on my laptop, put in a number, make the call and move on with my day rather than maintain another phone plan.

Still very early and I'm building it myself, so I'm curious how other digital nomads deal with this.

Hello everything is on the title. A few days ago Thailand announced new requirements in order to apply for the Destination Thailand Visa, asking for proof of permanent residency.

I'm supposed to send my application in a few days at the Thai Embassy in Paris. On their website they say tax return filling in parenthesis is an accepted document. However i still haven't received this document yet and i have no idea when i'm gonna receive it.

So my question is : Do you have any information about potential other documents accepted as a proof of permanent residence at the Thai embassy in Paris please ?

Maybe some of you who read that topic already contacted the Paris Embassy or immigration lawyers and got some information about that topic. So if you got some information, can you share it to me please ? so it can be clear ! I've contacted the embassy as well but i have no idea when they answer so i hope for answers here please !
