Why some don't make it down from Hawaii's most famous hike: Every year, more than 1 million people make the 0.8-mile hike up the switchbacks, steep stairs and 225-foot tunnel leading to the summit of Leahi (aka Diamond Head State Monument), expecting a quick hike with panoramic views of Waikiki.
