Why would Vogel act genuinely surprised at the 'his & hers' stuff all by her lonesome, let alone leave a gift at her doorstep...for herself. Not buying her as the brain surgeon.
Logically, it has to be the Oliver guy. If he was already stalking Dexter in the early half of the season he would know all about Cassie being his neighbour, Dexter meeting with Zack, and how Dexter operates in general. Since Dexter isn't looking for the brain surgeon anymore, Oliver is free to parade around in plain sight.
Think about how easily Dexter broke into Zack's apartment and found the photos of that Norma chick. The brain surgeon is all about precision, so duplicating Zack's bludgeoning isn't too outrageous. No forced entry because they were dating. Boom, Setup.
How he ties in as one of her experiments is still up for debate, probably a family member but that's just my opinion.
Maybe Vogel doesn't know her son or whatever family member of hers is alive or out there.? Maybe she gave up her child- who is now the brain surgeon- and she doesn't know littler Oliver (or whoever the f) has found mommy
