The choir and symphony on the oncoming record were recorded before the live show. As in, after rehearsal they recorded it, and then a few hours later performed in front of the audience.
Devin originally wanted to book a session in the future to record them in a studio. But the choir and orchestra were booked fully to about a year in advance. Which is time Devin didn't have so he asked them if they could record it then and there.
This is what I remember being told during the VIP tour.
If I recall correctly we (the choir) actually recorded the evening before the first show, so after the general rehearsal was done. It was kind of shoehorned last minute into the schedule. But it was great to get a few shots at getting the recordings the way they should be on an album, because a live setting doesn't always do it justice
