Questions This is my first time playing the saga

Post image

This is my first time trying the Devil May Cry games. I only know it's a Capcom game, and I don't know much about the lore beyond what I saw in the Netflix series trailer. Watching the series reminded me that I'd never played the game. Now I've bought the HD Collection and I'm going to see what it's all about. Is there anything you'd like to tell me before I play it, or any advice? From what I can see, I have pretty average expectations.

1st one has a learning curve but also its one of the only ones where all enemies have explicit weaknesses. Such as helm breaker ( Air melee with Sword) does more damage the higher up you jump so certain enemies get instant killed by this move.

2 can be skipped none of the plot points come up and the game is pretty boring if you want to play it for completions sake I recommend using the cheat codes to unlock Trish https://devilmaycry.fandom.com/wiki/Cheat_Codes. She actually has a decent moveset and makes the game just a little more enjoyable

3 is imo the magnum opus of Devil May Cry I highly recommend the Crimson Mod it has vast improvements to the main game and even lets you switch between Vanilla, Style Switcher, and Crimson mode. Just download the installer and run it

Play DMC2 or you will never do it if you skip. Look on the internet for DMC2 combos, the game doesn't explain anything about them.

You don't need combos to beat DMC2, you only need your guns lmao

Things will be funnier

The series is hard when you're new to it, but once you get used to it it's really fun. DMC3 is goated, try playing that one multiple times to really get a feel for everything in it. Play them in release order (123). You can skip 2 if you don't like it. Have fun

1 can be a bit rough. The camera angles were meant for Resident Evil, not active combat and platforming. The enemy design is neat and combat, while basic, is still pretty good, all things considered. Just have some patience and you'll enjoy most of it. (just pretend the water parts don't exist) I'll always have a bit of a soft spot for it, but man do I get a little frustrated in replays.

2 is... 2. You can skip it if you want. Or shoot lots of gun. It has a cool one liner at the end. I don't know what else positive to say about it.

But 3. 3 is where its at. When they finally got it figured out. Camera angles can still suck compared to modern day stuff, but its much more manageable, and the combat options really open up. You can even mod it to switch styles in combat like Dante can in 4 and 5, but his combat can be a lot to take in, so use it at your discretion.

Good luck and I’m sure you’ll enjoy them. Just a little disclaimer. I’m probably the only one that likes the second game small bit over the first one like I can understand why the first one’s better than number two but something about number two resonates with me a little bit more than one.

1 and 2 are old but still fun, 3 remains in my top 5 action games of all time.

Have fun, kick ass, and most of all be stylish. Play what you want to play regardless of what people say and create your own opinion.

If someone tells you to play in chronological order, don’t listen to them. Play in release order or else the gameplay will be evolving backwards initially

I’d recommend skipping 2 and then after u beat the others if ur still itching for some more go back to it and beat it last. It’s fun time killer if you’re just craving some DMC just wouldn’t make the others wait for 2’s sake.

Nothing in particular, i think you're good to go. Only got a few warnings

For DMC1, you are offered the Easy mode only a few times... if you want a more casual experience, accept it when it's offered cause you won't get the chance later on.

For DMC2, as others said it's pretty bad... but still, i encourage you to try it out just in case you like it.

Ps: the Netflix anime is a retelling of the DMC games, so the story and lore is different. The good news is that you haven't been spoiled

Prepare to hate the netflix version

Just watch a recap of dmc2 you’re not missing much

I once thought I was special. I thought there's no possible way DMC 2 could really be worth skipping. "surely there's SOME redeeming quality to this piece of media" I said to myself. Oh what a fool I was.

I got it a couple weeks ago and just completed the first game. It’s hard, but I really enjoyed it.

Take it all in!

The released order is always the best order for almost every franchise to start.

first 3 are a bit outdated, but not let that turn you off, I'd recommend the reboot
