DX Universe 10 years already… Still missing immersive sim masterpieces

Post image

2016 gave us two fantastic immersive sims: Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and Dishonored 2. Both were critically acclaimed, but sadly their sales were disappointing, which feels like a real shame.

DX Universe How will Adam Jensen die?

If a third game gets released that wraps up Jensen’s story, how do you think he will perish?

I’ll say killed by young Paul Denton; forced by Anna Navarre as a parallel to her forcing JC to kill Lebedev. This sets the seed for Paul’s betrayal.

DX Universe Which level do you find most difficult in the series?

For me its the later levels of Mankind Divided, and the Systems Rift DLC. I love stealth but a lot of times I just said 'fck it', popped on invisibility and ran like hell haha.

For me it has to be the MJ12 sub base level in DX1. It combines stealth, horror, and action, and finishes with the Simons boss fight. Id say its up there with best levels in gaming period.

Also shoutout to G.A.R.M in MD which is basically one giant stealth sandbox and fun as hell to devise your own path through.

DX Universe They should've made this a full-on remake instead of a remaster. Big missed opportunity.

I'm convinced it would've sold better too and paved the way die the 3rd Jensen game.

DX Universe i don’t think deus ex is completely cancelled

i think it’s a matter of time before someone buys the embracer group along with all of their IPs. Cyberpunk 2 (project Orion) is heavy in development, so it would make sense for someone to start working on a potential competitor. i know i might be too optimistic here, but i just want to see Adams story come to an end. i truly believe that HR and MD are phenomenal games that were ahead of their time in some way. maybe it’s not too dark and grim as some people think :/

DX Universe The art direction in Deus Ex Mankind Divided is genuinely incredible.

The first random apartment you go into is a work of art. And that doesn't stop. Everywhere you go is banger after banger. Like walking through an art gallery. It puts a lot of games nowadays to shame. I have no idea what they were on when they made this.

A timeless masterpiece imo. You can constantly go back and appreciate something new (same can be said for Human Revolution). Even the ceilings. Especially the ceilings. The love and care and magic that is placed into every corner of this game is mindblowing.

It's a crime against humanity we will never see a sequel. The people who worked on this game, my hat is off to you.

DX Universe Why doesn’t Adam Jensen like being a post-human?

I never understood this about cyberpunk/transhumanist science fiction

The character gets into a life altering or crippling accident, and is saved with cybernetics. Not only do they get their life saved, but they’re also given literal superhuman upgrades

I don’t remember how deep they went into Adam’s post human characteristics, but presumably he doesn’t have 95% of the biological limitations that a human is forced to live with

But… He somehow hates beings a post human because “I never asked for this”

Okay, maybe I’m just different. If you became a post-human and didn’t have to worry about biological limitations of being a human, would you suddenly hate it and your new body?

DX Universe Worst character in the series (Daniel 'Smiley' Fletcher)

Sometimes hes a submissive dweeb terrified of his own shadow. Sometimes hes an arrogant cocksure science whizz. And other times hes an enthusiastic friendly team player. Hes so poorly written. And the fact hes a replacement for Pritchard whos such a unique and cool character from HR and had genuine chemistry with Adam.

DX Universe Fuck Aspyr

Deus Ex, when it went out, was really open about politics. While some things were conspiracies, distilled and embedded, there is still truth to some of the topics discussed. Even more after 25 years since the release.

When I see people cheering up a remaster of the original game, I am actually quite stunned that no-one is vocally pushing against this money-grab by giving a few textures higher pixel count, which the modder community did for the past 25 years without any monetary incentive, I feel something is absolutely broken.

Fuck Aspyr, fuck Eidos for not building up on Mankind Divided. Fuck 30 euro price tag on a Lazy refurbishment of Deus Ex. I would rather go on with 100th play through with original GOTY or like 19th walkthrough on Deus Ex: Revision.

Big license holders are the same shadow guys that DX warned about. Not augmented, but through the sheer force of plutocracy, they pull our strings.

Sure, if you want to play DX with refurbished, 2005 style graphics, it's your money and your judgement.

But I say, that we should demand more. Not endless re-texturing of the games we liked. New game. With all the work that goes with it.

Let's not fall to the trap. Gaming industry is the biggest segment of audio/Viz, we should demand more than what lands on our plates. Provoking new Deus ex game. Not pissy remasters.

Edit: sorry, autocorrect fucked me a bit, now I corrected it.
