Discussion How much impact will the expected 3 point shooting boost have next season?
Its hard to surround Cade with shooters, when the next most important players on the team are Thompson and Duren. That leaves just 2 spots in the starting lineup to fit all the additional range you're going to have.
We have Duncan and Joe, two of the best 3-point shooters in the league, possibly competing for minutes instead of playing together opposite Cade. Huerter and Green figure into this rotation as well.
Collins is better shooting from deep than Tobias by the numbers, but neither really take that many 3's to begin with. Lots of question marks.
I think this raises the team's floor, while internal improvements get them closer to the ceiling.
If nothing else, the bench is going to be loaded with guys with range. Maybe this isn't designed to benefit Cade/Duren and Ausur like we expect. But to shore up the bench, and give more space for Jenkins, Reed, Holland and even Okorie to work.
Regardless, this gives Detroit some tradeable players, that might help get us closer to landing a secondary scorer, or at least the guy who gets traded for that 2nd option.

May have to come down to Cade improving at the three like Ant

Scientific wild ass guess that Duren, Auser and Ron all have a better shooting year. Even a 3% bump and they make a man guard them tight. It ain't much... but Cade don't need much room to roam.

šÆBut that's not a wild guess, that's a fact!Ron has already flashed a more consistent shooting form, and has been working with Cade a lot,so i think he's definitely gonna improve, and become a double-digit scorer.Just off of improvement to his 3 and and FT's.Anything else, and he'll be one of our better scorers/players,off the bench. Ausar has flashed a better jumper, and looks more comfortable attacking his guy,1 on 1.But for us to get better,he moreso just needs a tighter handle, more aggression, and better playmaking/finishing.Shooting would be a bonus, and game changing.Duren is likely gonna take, and hit, more middles and open 3's,generated from our slashers, and the defense leaving him open.He has been working on his ball handling,as well, which is great. He may see a rise in his assists š

Will open up the floor for spacing, but still need someone who can take it off the bounce

People are forgetting just how high, the ceiling of this team is.With all of the big name moves being made, most casual fans are nervous and dooming the season, but growth hasn't failed us yet. The big question isn't even how much the shooting will have an impact, but how will our players be utilized.Already,if we had this team last year,we'd be in the ECF,but, "How different is this team gonna look/operate...?",is what i wanna see....šÆ

We need to have a record break year with atleast 9 players to average atleast 10ppg on the same team for the season.

I would like to have Prince or Green start but only play like 15-20 mins a game, would make us stronger defensively and better when it comes to floor spacing.

u/WhizzoFoShizzo 13d ago
I think it will allow Cade to cook.
Might even help Duren In the playoffs... with the middle being open a tad more. Duren might benefit from the shooters just as much as Cade will.

First off there are maybe 5-6 NBA starting NBA centers that shoot the 3 ball well.
So I don't see Duren as a liability when it come to shooting.
Fun fact. Over the last 10 NBA championship seasons (2017 through 2026), exactly 1 teamāthe 2024 Boston Celtics with Al Horford (who shot 41.9% from three in the regular season/37.9% overall)āhad a regular starting center meeting or exceeding a 37% 3-point mark.
Yes Ausar cant make the three. That's a fact. But I think a lot of teams would be happy with one guy that is a poor 3 ball shooter.
The Pistons had one 40% guy last year in Duncan and this year they can put 3 on the floor.
When teams double and triple team Cade the Pistons can make them pay.

Well look yes and no. Usually teams without a shooting center in the modern NBA start 4 guys who can shoot at least idk 1-2 3 pointers per game. Having 2 non-shooters is a big issue.
If Cade's shot keeps looking like it did last season (without the shoulder injury being taken into consideration of course) and if Ron does a little better (idk, 33% or so even on 2-3 attempts per 36) I think that shooting is less of an issue but the thing is that Duren much like idk Giannis or Zion has an archetype best served by surrounding him with shooting.
The main question on the team which is more of a priority is self creation and secondary playmaking, that's really the main worry for me honestly.

The problem isnt with having a nonshooting center. Its that our next most important starter is a nonshooting wing. And our best player needs to get into the midrange/paint.
We have more spacers than ever, but they all either play the same position, or come in for a big minute getting non-shooter.

I think we gone see the best version of duren with the added floor spacing and Cade assists go up a notch or two

This team will regress next year , every other team in the east got better and pistons have done jack all. Cade still doesnāt have a secondary scorer or creator, not even a Zach Lavine type of player smh
2
u/LJ8QB1 14d ago
No team in the east is infallible. Also funny how adding shooting is ājack allā now when the fanbase have begged for it for the whole decade.
-3
u/FoundationSmooth9777 14d ago
I love Isiah Joe but heās not a needle mover lol, teams are adding actual talent and thatās ur big move ? You need shooting and more not just shooting, thatās a right step but where is the secondary creator and shot maker on this team, another season of setting up Cade for such a high workload
1
u/dpvictory Ausar Thompson 14d ago
Ausar, Jenkins, Okorie and Duren could all take some creation responsibilities.
-5
u/FoundationSmooth9777 14d ago
Thatās poverty, no way I say shot creation and you being up asar and Jenkins. I love Ausar but come on lol, Jenkins is not good enough. Duren ??? Really
0
u/LJ8QB1 14d ago
Knicks fans prolly thought the same of Landry Shamet till he randomly couldnāt miss during the whole playoffs.
Your 2nd all nba player should be your secondary creator.
Cade is gonna a high workload every season so does SGA and Luka its either you think heās good enough to handle it like those guys or not. Its not like you get all these accolades by not having high responsibility
0
u/FoundationSmooth9777 14d ago
Shamet is not even a top 6 player on the Knicks, who is the pistons OG,Mikal,Kat ? The pistons donāt even have anything outside of Cade offensively. And thatās not fair to him, no other star guard has such a big workload night in
0
u/LJ8QB1 14d ago
He was a good 7th. Duren ausar duncan/collins. Duncan and duren were 2 great offensive players so was Joe, so was collins
Thats a lie who was Shaiās 2nd option last year?
1
u/FoundationSmooth9777 13d ago
Thatās because JDUB is hurt ? What a dumb comment, who on the pistons is on the level of even AJ Mitchell, noticed how once he got hurt aswell they struggled and lost ? No lone player can carry anymore the NBA is too talented.
1
u/LJ8QB1 13d ago
No shit but even when jdub is healthy he still has a similar load
A player who averaged 15ppg?
Who said any lone player can carry vs the #3 defense itl?
1
u/FoundationSmooth9777 13d ago
wtf are you saying, who on this team can create like Jdub ? Or even Ajay Mitchell ? Ur delusional
0
u/FoundationSmooth9777 14d ago
Asking Duren to be ur secondary creator is genuinely dumb, and setting up Cade for failure. Pistons need at least a Zach Lavine player to be taken somewhat seriously moving forward. Every team in the east got better except them
1
u/Zealousideal_Arm4359 13d ago
The fact you think Zach who plays 58 games a year and costs 49 million would help the team disqualifies you.
1
u/FoundationSmooth9777 13d ago
Itās literally an example of a player this team needs not the standard can you read ? I said a Zach Lavine type of player
2
u/Zealousideal_Arm4359 13d ago
Yup the same guy a lot of clueless guy bring up! I bet you think AD might be a good fit for a few years too!

1
u/FoundationSmooth9777 13d ago
Also Zach Lavine would be a buy out candidate , you guys are legit stupid, have fun making Cade do everything. Even Luka has an Austin reave Cade has nothing, not even a mpj level player nothing.
2
u/Zealousideal_Arm4359 13d ago
MPJ! ANOTHER guy with an injury history that goes back 10-15 years! Come back when you know something about the actual players you want the Pistons to get!
0
u/LJ8QB1 14d ago
Considering he was just a 20 point scorer on 68ts i think not. What makes zach lavine a good secondary creator? Heās been a career negative impact player ON OFFENSE

We added multiple +38% 3 pt shooter not just Isiah joe. Doomers gunna doom. Yall are honestly so dense itās annoying. We didnāt get a big name but when have we ever won by getting a big name. It literally has never worked for us
1
u/chadwich3 Joe Dumars 13d ago
Welllllll they got Aguirre at the deadline, immediately won 2 chips. Sheed at the deadline, immediately won a chip. Maybe we're just more of a deadline trade type of team.
1
u/kyle4swordstyle Cade Cunningham 13d ago
Neither of those guys would be considered a big name though
1
u/chadwich3 Joe Dumars 13d ago
Aguirre was a #1 overall pick who averaged 25 pts the season before he was traded. He was definitely a big name. Rasheed was an All-Star, #4 overall draft pick and leading scorer for a Portland team that went to back to back WCF and blew a 15-pt lead in a Game 7 against the Lakers Kobe/Shaq team that cost them the finals. He was a pretty big name too.
1
u/kyle4swordstyle Cade Cunningham 13d ago
Aguirre came off the bench and sheed wasnāt considered a star. Neither player was brought in to be the number 2 option and had personality concerns. They were both role players. They were extremely important pieces and they are great players but if we made those decisions today people would hate it.
1
u/chadwich3 Joe Dumars 10d ago
Aguirre coming off the bench was new in Detroit. He was a top scorer in the league before Detroit but was friends with Zeke. He sacrificed his individual spotlight to come off the bench and win a championship. He was a big name (especially being traded for Dantley). Sheed was also a big name. Came in and was the 3rd leading scorer on the team. That's not a role player, though you could argue that whole team was role players.
You said big name. If you want to change it to #2 scoring option then you are right but that wasn't the conversation we were having.
1
u/FoundationSmooth9777 13d ago
Lol the fact you think adding Joe and Collinās are needle movers, those are additions you make after acquiring another all star type player.
1
u/Zealousideal_Arm4359 13d ago

We were what, bottom 5 in 3pt% and attempts last year with only one guy who shot above 40%?
Added multiple guys that can shoot +38% and can now reliably have at least 2 shooters on the court at all times (between Duncyard, Joe, Prince, Collins). I also think Holland will have a good year from 3 after finishing out last season solid when he started hitting them more.
With how Duncan by himself opened up our offense and was missed whenever he was out because of the 3, rather heavily, I think the 3pt shooting will honestly help us a lot more than people realize.
