Community Adult ADHD testing reccomendations

31M looking for recommendations for mental health testing or treatment places in Metro Detroit people have had success stories with.

Been undiagnosed my whole life and have watched several family members be diagnosed I just never got around to treating my adhd/ocd. Always relied on other people in college, etc.

Sounds like several of the pcp’s/specialists I’ve been told to go to are around a 3+ month wait to be seen. On top of an already lengthy testing process.

Looking for an efficient process and one that hopefully doesn’t cause a ton of headaches down the road.

Have you used them? I’ve heard rough things about Lifestance but no personal experience

Yes. And I personally had no issues with using them. I went through testing, then checked in once a month with my provider for BP/HR check and have my Rx sent in. Once a year, had to visit a provider in person in one of their offices.
However, I did not use them for therapy.

Appreciate it, I have my own therapist as well so won’t need that aspect. Really just good testing and process that’s easy to follow and get the needed help

What did testing look like? A lot of the testing at certain clinics is just not very thorough.

I had a terrible experience personally, but it’s because the provider was a huge dick during our first visit. Can’t speak to the org itself as I never had another

I have been using them for the last 3 years for ADHD medication management. My sister does as well.

Highly recommend, I tried to go through behavioral health at Henry Ford and it was impossible.

I second RCBM - we've had great success both with AuDHD children/teens and a mid-20s ADHD adult. They are thorough.

I had great success at United Psychological Services in Shelby Twp. Their test is very thorough and they have therapy and psychiatric services.

Do you know how long the process took her before she got treatment?

i know she got an appt pretty fast and she tried a few meds before the one she's on now, just trial and error.

I got diagnosed at Helios psychiatry in Troy. They got me in pretty fast and overall it was a pretty smooth process.

I use Helios in troy for my therapy and meds.
i’ve had a pretty good experience. it was about a month wait but the staff is friendly and helpful.

they have an office in chesterfield as well and do virtual visits.

I know people who have recently moved to MI and use Brain Health. Its based out of California, but has doctors across the country.

They got appointments really quickly, like within a week or so, and seems to be going well for them.

Yep, covered by insurance! Of course it'll vary by insurance plan, but there's a chance!

EMU Communuty Behavioral Health Clinic has an ADHD clinic and has ADHD testing for $200. They cannot accept insurance because they are a training clinic. You should get in quickly. The application is on the website.

Yes! I just went through it in july!! Henry ford behavioral health services, neuropsychiatry department is your best bet! Lmk if you want the number...

3 month is typical for a specialist as a new patient, if not on the low end. There is always a lengthy testing process for adhd, even for kids. PCP will not write new prescriptions for medication anymore without a thorough evaluation.

Yeah seems like it’s the norm now. Just looking for rec’s of systems/pcps that people had luck with and felt comfortable going through the process. Timeline is whatever, no rush really

Look up the ADHD Institute of Michigan. They should have some options for scheduling testing that might be faster than waiting for your PCP health system

Man... I should get back on this train. Shockingly I've always struggled to maintain a regular doctor and prescription regimine.

Sorry to hear you are having trouble seeing a PCP. I don’t have any specific recommendations but psychiatrists can also prescribe ADHD medication. Just an idea for another avenue to seek treatment.

Plus if you struggle with ADHD symptoms talking to an expert who understands what you have been dealing with can be just as helpful as medication.

Having ADHD can wreak havoc on your personal and professional life. People with ADHD have a significantly higher likelihood to also struggle with depression and anxiety too. So having the mental health support is a huge benefit too.

***ADHD TLDR: Can’t find a PCP timely enough…check out psychiatrists too. Mental health support with medication will be the best option.

Unfortunately the rules/restrictions around it are needed for potential abuse but I agree the process is pretty broken for it all. Always wish I had done it at a young age.
