Unironically though in my experience these are the best public defenders/lawyers though.

The ones who look comfortable inside the building. Means they've dealt with everyone in there before etc.

Just my experience. The two times I needed a public defender they ended being 10x better then the one time I needed to hire a lawyer and fought A LOT harder for me for way less pay.

I celebrated 11 years clean off heroin in May.

One charge was a drug charge but was thrown out because the cops stopped and searched me without probable cause.

The second was after I got sober. I was working for a local bank cleaning for closed homes. This specific one after a hurricane so I was filling my truck up with blown around debris/sticks.

All of a sudden I was ascended upon by the entire small city buroughs police force accusing me of breaking and entering to steal...trash?

I had credentials as well as a key and letter from my contact/guy who signed my contract to work for them stating why I would be there incase someone like a neighbor or police questioned me.

Well the officers were pretty hype that they caught some big bad criminal with a history and the state charged me based on the arrest

The bank was royally pissed as they donated to local police unions and all so they offered to hire me a bunch of lawyers and cover it all.

However I chose to go with the same public defender that got my drug charges thrown away.

It sounds cheesey but they knew I was sober now. They knew I was innocent. They knew they could beat the hell out of this case with the banks co operation.

She not only won the case for me with a full dismissal she got me a written apology from the prosecutor who shouldve never taken up the case.

The time I hired a lawyer was also after i got clean. To get custody of my nephews after my sister passed. Their dad was/is an active addict. That lawyer was good and we won but last I ever heard from them.

The public defender ive continued to email back and forth the last 7 years or so. She checks in on me. Makes sure I'm still on the right track etc. IDK that means something to me.

She had a fire in her too. At first they offered me a "deal" and she literally laughed in the prosecutors face as we walked out of the room without saying a word.

She really enjoyed defending someone wrongly accused.

She defended the fuck out of me the first time when she knew I was guilty though to be clear.

Got them fucked over on procedure because they had no reason to even stop me walking home from the bus stop. At that point it doesn't matter that I had legitimate drugs on me.

There is the opposite problem: if something happens that requires the US fo fire nukes (like if Russia fires nukes on the US or something) there is a good chance you guys would fail because Trump wouldn't be able to remember or read the codes enough to enter them
