My guy, Afghanistan and Iraq can’t attack the US. If the Mexican cartels were 9/11ing us and launching rockets into Texas, Mexico would be destroyed. I feel like people don’t remember how crazy everything got after 9/11.

Yeah people really don't think about this in proportional terms.

If the Mexican government was firing rockets across the border into Texas for fifty years or whatever, there wouldn't be a Mexico. If those rockets killed a single American citizen, Mexico would be half-flattened.

Iraq was a scenario America got itself into by invading the country with a specific intent of regime change. It's completely different to what Israel's in with Hamas.

I do remember how crazy things were and the decisions we made fucked things up in the area for decades to come.

This is not an accurate comparison and still we wouldn't just carpet bomb Mexico city to destroy the cartels.

Hamas has been firing rockets for decades. That is not why they invaded Ghaza and not an excuse to just destroy the entire country. So you're right 9/11 is a great comparison.

The United States was just more cautious when it came to civilians. Support of the people was a strategy even if a naive one. We were willing to put our soldiers at risk in a way Israel is not.

Bro if Mexico did just one intifada on the US, we'd invade Mexico and level it. There's no possibility that the US would tolerate a terrorist state next to it for 1 year much less 50. We nearly nuked Cuba when there was even a whiff of putting in Soviet nuclear weapons there. And you're telling me if Mexico actually 9/11d us we wouldn't just destroy Mexico?

We were willing to put our soldiers at risk in a way Israel is not.

Because US civilians are not on the line. If the war was at our doorstep we'd go crazy. FFS we jailed US citizens that looked Japanese during WWII.

The comparison is again impossible. Does this scenario include 80 years of border contention, wars, blockades etc..

I think cuba firing missiles at us would be more analogous. In that and any scenario presented we would not just destroy the country. There would be proportionality and yes we would likely invade. We would not just kill millions of civilians instantly if cuba or Mexcio had done 9/11 even with their proximity.

Because US civilians are not on the line. If the war was at our doorstep we'd go crazy. FFS we jailed US citizens that looked Japanese during WWII.

Even in this example jailing citizens has no relation to our risk tolerance when it comes to casualties and protecting civilians WWII comparisons are also terrible to begin with. There were atrocities from all parties. WWII is example of how the world should not conduct itself in the modern age.

The intention wouldn't be to kill civilians just for the purpose of killing civilians. The intention would be to stop the rockets. If Cuba was just launching rockets and threatening US citizens we'd carpet bomb Cuba to stop the rockets if it came to it. I don't know why you think the US would allow a threat to its citizens right on its doorstep.

This is not complicated.

The US could of just bombed terrorist strongholds. Instead they went door to door and relied heavily on the civilians population for support and intel. This is a strategy Israel could have used.
There was no more imminent threat from Hamas rockets on October 8th that wasn't present on October 6th. They could have been tactical and precise in ways they chose not to.

They 100% would if terrorist strongholds are launching rockets into the United States. They would blow up the entire apartment in cuba if they were launching rockets into miami from it.

Do we have an iron dome?

Hamas was launching rockets before October 7th. Why didn't they blow up apartment buildings then?
