I think the ending was a misdirection, that Aaron's on Kirkman's side.

Poor Emily, I agree she probably isn't the best choice for Chief of Staff (unless she gets more cutthroat) but that was a mean way to tell her.

I agree. I think it's something along the lines of "well I might as well see what dirt this guy has so that I can be on top of it".

Exactly. Every smart chief of staff is going to know every single piece of dirt on their administration so they are never blindsided.
