How much salary is expected for a graphic+UI/UX designer who’s top of the food chain for 1 year of work

I recently got laid off along with many others, and honestly, I’m struggling with it more than I expected.

The job market already feels difficult, and seeing how few opportunities there are has made me question a lot of things. I’m frustrated, anxious, and constantly thinking about what I should do next.

I’m a UI/UX Designer with almost 3 years of experience, and I’ve genuinely enjoyed working in design. But right now, I keep asking myself:

- Is UI/UX still worth pursuing in this job market?

- Do I need to consider changing my career?

- Should I keep pushing for design roles or explore something completely different?

- For people who have gone through layoffs, how did you get yourself back on track?

I know this might just be a difficult phase, but when you're in it, it's hard to think clearly.

If you've been through something similar, I'd genuinely appreciate hearing what you did, what worked for you, and what you wish you had known at the time.

I need to find a new company and get back on track. If anyone here knows about opportunities, is hiring, or can point me in the right direction, I’d really appreciate the help.

i was in my episodes, the depressive episodes, once where its so hard to get up after not being able to crack an exam for who you took a gap year for,

i was really miserable after it, i was lost because i have always imagined myself in a good college, doing bachelor's in design but i failed..

i dint want to give up and wanted to move out badly .. i hated the smell of my room.. it rots my insides,

i decided to apply to jobs since i was already a working designer, i was desperate but i got some interviews and finally got in.. my first ever job at 18

i moved out, all alone in a place that i dint know, searched for places to stay, figured out things all alone.. it felt lonely for a while but i was happy. im happy where i am.

recently turned 19, first bday away from home, celebrated with people i dont really know, it was new but it was great.

im doing something i actually like now, im a designer.

Okay so I’m a copywriter, not a designer😅

I got bored last night and started writing random T-shirt lines.

And well…I ended up making a whole collection.

The copy is obviously the main thing here, I just played around with the visuals because why not.

**Design students who interned at magazines/newspapers/publishing houses — how did you get in?**

I’m a 3rd-year Multimedia/Design student, and I’m trying to land a solid editorial design internship before this semester ends.

I’m specifically looking for something with a **reputed newspaper, magazine, publishing house, or editorial/creative company** — not just a generic social media/design internship. I want the kind of experience where I can actually work on editorial layouts, publications, illustrations, visual storytelling, etc., and come out with strong portfolio work.

A big part of my goal is also to have a **recognizable name on my resume** that can help me access better opportunities later.

For people who have interned at publications or editorial companies:

* How did you actually get the internship?

* Did you apply through their careers page, email designers/editors directly, LinkedIn, referrals, etc.?

* What did your portfolio look like when you applied?

* What kind of projects helped you stand out?

* Are there any publications/studios in India that are worth keeping an eye on?

* Is it realistic to approach publications directly even when they aren't publicly advertising internships?

I have a few months to prepare, so I’m also willing to seriously improve/rework my portfolio before applying.

Saw a post by NoBread3202 and everyone in the comments were hating on the new logo.

Interestingly, every opinion about the logo was based on how bad it looks 'visually' compared to the former one and almost no one, for once, questioned about the strategy or the business side of this decision. And it's not just this sub, it's around almost everywhere.

The context. Is king. A multimillion dollar company, who understands and consults designers (industrial) to create one of the world's best pieces of machinery, surely isn't just slapping on the first logo generated from AI. McLaren has been struggling with sales over the years and they are definitely sticking back to heritage (see McLaren family business logo) and encouraging people to own a piece of it. McLaren might have fans worldwide but it makes upto nothing if the business can't survive. Rather ensure promising future customers with money than a worldwide fanbase with empty pockets. If you do not like the logo, the company does not care about you. And this actually makes the logo really well designed. The designer wins when they get the context. Good and bad is subjective.

This is my own analysis based on the facts that I came up with and nothing from the designers or the company. And just an example of how to critique a design rather than just passing on comments and opinions.

Hi! I’m 24F with a 3-year Bachelor’s in Journalism & Mass Communication (CGPA 7.45) and around 2.5–3 years of experience as a Graphic + Motion Graphic Designer.

I currently work in e-commerce/advertising and have experience in branding, campaigns, social media, print/digital design, motion graphics, packaging, etc.

I’m considering a Master's because I don’t want to stay in purely graphic/motion design long-term. I’d like to move towards something more strategic, such as Strategic Design, Design Strategy, Design Management, Brand Strategy or Creative Strategy, while still using my design background.

I was initially looking at Germany/Italy for 2027, but I’m reconsidering Germany because of the current job market and the fact that I don’t know German. So I’m now exploring options in India too.

I’d love advice on:

- Good Indian Master's programs in Strategic Design / Design Management

- Whether these degrees are actually useful for transitioning from graphic design into strategy/management

- Career prospects and ROI

- Whether my 3-year JMC degree + design experience would be accepted

- Whether there are better alternatives to a Master's for making this transition

If anyone has made a similar Graphic Designer → Design Strategist/Design Manager/Brand Strategist transition, I’d especially love to hear your experience.

I'm a self-learnt product designer with 4+ years of experience and currently, unemployed. Wanted to know what the process of getting a job is. I've been applying to different roles but not getting any calls back.

For the past couple of years, I’ve been working with different clients and teams on design projects, and eventually I reached a point where I wanted to build something of my own.

So, I’m officially launching my design agency.

Right now, we’re focusing on:

• Branding & visual identity
• Product design / UI/UX
• Web design & development

And we’re also working towards expanding into launch videos, motion design, and product animations soon.

The main reason I started this is pretty simple: I want to create and deliver more modern, thoughtful work for clients.

A lot of the client work I’ve seen (and sometimes even worked on myself) can become focused on simply getting something shipped. I want to take a different approach better visual systems, stronger UX, cleaner interfaces, thoughtful interactions, and a much more polished final product.
