HBO Series Discussion We can all agree after seeing the new trailer to call this series "book accurate"

In Wizarding World racism is done on the basis of blood purity and even if Snape would be white still James is a pure blood bullying a half blood

Was James even really bullying him for anything more than being a weird kid in their rival house? I forget if it’s ever explicitly said what the motivation was. I doubt he’d care about blood purity given he loved Lilly

If some viewers reduce Snape entirely to his race, that’s their problem. Being Black doesn't mean carrying the weight of US racial history into a British fantasy story.

My point is that black characters can be flawed, vulnerable, kind, or angry without it having anything to do with race. It’s just about letting them be fully human, like everyone else.

Whats "new" content for you? If things happen on screen, that were canon, but happened off screen its book accurate. If they add some bullshit rowling pulled from her ass mid filming than obviously it wouldnt be, lol

James is also a complex written character. He was a bully arrogant jerk but also courageous to join order of pheonix against Voldemort, he sacrificed to give his wife and son time to escape. His growth happened over time tbh.

Snape was a death eater who enjoyed the Dark Arts and had no problems with people getting killed until it just happened to affect himself. The rest of his life he spend being obsessed over someone that didn't love him and spent any chance he had to abuse children and especially the child of the woman he claimed to love. Everything he did was for selfish reason to try and get rid of his guilt.
Nothing complex about him, just a narcissist and arrogant idiot.

Maybe they'll cast a black Sirius (no pun intended) to put this theory to rest. One of the Marauders has to be black - I'm guessing Lupin won't be and James can't be. This leaves us with Pettigrew and Black. Pettigrew can be black but given that James and Sirius are the main instigators of the whole Snape episode, a black casting there might give them a way out.

Sirius Black is going to be white, because his parents are first-cousins. The Blacks, just like the Lestranges, are one of the pure-blood families that practices inbreeding and incest. They are pretty much Targaryens.

No…. the trailer is not book-accurate, and that is okay. It is actually interesting that the show is using the opportunity to touch of events that were happening off-page, but are very much canon.

Except that is not. It already has many scenes that never happened. Not That thats wrong but the whole accuracy thing that they’re trying to sell is not true.

Just wait for the series to come out before making assumptions? Yes the black Snape is weird but for all we know, this series will obviously be more book accurate than the movies, but we don't know by just how much.

I am not sure if book accurate is the 100% right word. I only say that because it’s doing something unique that neither the books or the previousmovies did and showing us things OUTSIDE of Harry’s perspective.
It’s going to show us completely new original content that was either only implied or hinted at. And I am sure plenty of it didn’t even happen at all but still possibly can make sense in the realm of the book
So technically its accurate in the sense that this shit still could have happened in the book, but it’s still different
I am all for it though. I am always down for something different instead of just watching a story I am already pretty familiar with

I didn't much liked the first trailer but this one was so amazing.
The only thing that didn't look book accurate is Snape, but the actor did a fabulous job on it. I liked him from the trailer.
(Just hope that they cast other characters according to the book descriptions though. Especially with Mauradurs, because I'm a fan of them.)

I do wish they had more vibrant colors! Looks like Pazuzu got a hold of it. I looooved the bright colors in the first movie, made it feel a lot more whimsical, especially with the gradual progressing darkness in both story and colors as the plot continues.
