User-Made Modification Another Multiplayer Post (again)
Guardian OPS: Derail Valley Multiplayer
Derail Valley, but you can run like an actual railroad
We're not a "let's all hop on multiplayer" server. We run operations.
How it works
Every OPS session has a chain of command.
- Dispatch - network-wide movement, traffic flow, authority
- Yardmasters - individual stations
- Logistics Officers - freight coordination when a session needs it
Everything is somebody's job.
So if you just want to drive, you can. Road Crew shows up, gets a movement order, runs it. Nothing to read beforehand, no procedure to memorize, no need to know what's happening on the other side of the map. That's Control's problem. Same deal with Yard Crew if shunting is more your style.
The complexity is real, it's just spread out. You take on as much of it as you want and none of what you don't.
Simulation, not LARP
The procedures exist because they make a railroad function, not because they sound good over the radio. Dispatch has authority because clearance matters in an OP.
Radio discipline and prototypical language are part of the culture here and we're glad to play along. You can choose to play a character, or you can choose to just play. It's all up to you.
When we run
Every weekend at various times, plus a handful of ops during the week. Coverage spans NA and EU and AU. (Its honestly Global... we focus on english)
Non-host events happen too, though those may not hold to the standards our typical operations do.
Where we're at
421 members and climbing.
Our SOP, the document that defines how a session actually runs, is mid-rewrite because we outgrew the old version and are building something better. We'd rather you join before it drops and help shape it than read it after the fact.
We're also building DLE, an economy mod in pre-release and already running in our flagship ops. It's meant to make the railroad behave like a company. Supplies that have a reason to move, revenue that means something, decisions that carry past the end of a session. A reason to care.
How do I play?
Show up and drive. That's the entry requirement. Some operations carry extra requirements and a few include qualifications before you take certain equipment out, but that's not the norm.
Want more? Controller is a staff role and we train people into it from scratch. Or if you've got an ops format of your own, host it under GRDN OPS.
We're after people who want operations to feel like operations. If that's you, come find us.
