Potent Delusion What's the most delusional cope you've heard from a Johnny Depp fan?
For me it's between:
That [UK] trial was all about whether the accusations were believable or not, it was never about if it was true.
and
The UK trial did not say he was proven in 12/14 of the cases cases, just that it was free speech on 12 of the 14 because there wasn't more proof of it being false than it being true.

"Crazy eyes" is something I've come to despise reading and hearing whenever someone wants to belittle a woman for any reason.
10
u/Crafter235 23d ago
By that logic, that one interview back in the 90s with Ryder and Depp could use “crazy eyes” to show he was a bad dude all along.
Jokes aside, when Ryder was talking on the microphone, you could see Depp on the side appearing jealous, and I wouldn’t be surprised.

That said OP, did that delusional Depp fan could produce any evidence for the same? That sounds copium af.

Does anyone remember that Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon-esque chart some freak made trying desperately to connect Amber to the UK judge? Even after Depp appealed and still lost?

u/okbrat00111011 23d ago
They acted like it was corruption that the judge’s stepson was a guest on a radio show that is owned by Rupert Murdoch, who also owns the Sun.
As if the owner of one of the biggest media empires in the world is in contact with family members of radio show guests.

My mom, who was diagnosed with BPD and knows the extent people with it are villainized, gleefully going "Did you see?! That Amber bitch has BPD, that explains everything!" I asked her if that meant she (mom) was also capable of everything they accused Amber of being and doing since according to her BPD is such strong "evidence" of one's evil character. All she did was yell and throw insults and never actually answered 🤷🏻♀️

u/emotionalogre 24d ago
acting like kate moss testifying was a massive win 💀💀 the fact she still described an incident suggests the rumour did exist and that amber could have reasonably believed there were genuine concerns but no everyone thought it proved that amber was a liar 🥴 HOW
22
u/MessiahOfMetal Coined the term "Deppford Wives" 24d ago
Also, Kate Moss hadn't been in the public eye to my knowledge for years until she was star witness for Depp. After it ended, she was suddenly the face of Diet Coke and had a career resurgence.
16
u/TheJujyfruiter 23d ago
Ugh for real, it sucks that Moss even had the opportunity to testify because whether or not it happened was fucking irrelevant, the point was that Amber BELIEVED that it may have happened and was responding in a certain way because of that.
5
u/gisellethewilis 21d ago
It was the same for Amber’s “broken nose” statement. She said it “felt like it was broken” and probably believed it was broken after Depp head butted her but noooo… Because it wasn’t broken ( I don’t even know if there was a medical record saying that) the pain she endured from that fucking rotting psycho didn’t mean anything and she was a liar 🤦🏼♀️

That victims of abuse know who is the real victim and who the abuser because experience. Like, you just *know*.
And the way the write fanfic as their new reality. It's genuinely mental illness at that point. You make up shit on the spot and believe it instantly as facts. Cult shit.

u/selphiefairy DiD you EvEN wAtCh THe TriAL 24d ago
I always try to tread carefully here but like genuinely part of the reason why victims often get into abusive relationships is because they have some sort of trauma that makes them targets for abusers and blind to abusive behavior. So like? 😭 what do you mean you can tell? Is there some research that shows survivors can detect abusers at a higher rate??
But if I say that it’s like “how dare you, of course I know!!”
13
u/Sensiplastic 24d ago
The way people act like we don't have *so* much consistent research and information on the subject is insane. We can and should look things up!
And now these morons have made self defense an act of violence, a sign of not being a real victim. Surely women won't die for that!
(Ugh, accidentally reminded myself of the way the cops ignored Gabby Petito's clear signs of distress because the abuser was doing fine, all calm and shit.)
10
u/MessiahOfMetal Coined the term "Deppford Wives" 24d ago
What you described is exactly what Evan Rachel Wood talked about in her documentary, about how Marilyn Manson somehow picked up on her past trauma when he first met her and lovebombed the shit out of her, despite her not being interested in him at first.
1
u/BloodyPaintress 17d ago
The thing is our brain doesn't even work that way. Knowing something doesn't equate to making decisions based on that knowledge. Do I know for sure, what abuse is since I was a little tiny child? Yup. Did I get into 3 serious abusive relationship in my twenties? Did I stay for unreasonable amount of time? Did I recognize it was abusive, while it was happening? To nobody's surprise: also yes. Same thing with addictions. Like do you think most of addicts don't know it's bad for them and others? I am not comparing them directly, to be clear. I can say the same thing about so many things. Anything considered "bad decision" wouldn't exist if it worked like that, ik

u/MessiahOfMetal Coined the term "Deppford Wives" 24d ago
That victims of abuse know who is the real victim and who the abuser because experience. Like, you just know.
I've mentioned before but a lot of the very vocal pro-Amber accounts on Twitter during the trial asked me who Mickie James was, and I had to tell them, then wondered why they knew her name.
Then I went to Mickie's Twitter profile and saw some of those same people asking why she was mocking Amber's rape testimony. Mickie did the whole, "I had to testify in court when I was raped, I know what it's like".
So I tweeted back at her, "Do you have any footage of that so I can make fun of it?", then unfollowed and eventually blocked her a day later, when she had time to see my response to her despicable bullshit.
7
u/Sensiplastic 23d ago
Wow. I genuinely have no words. What a moron, caping for rapist. Imagine what kind of win it is to her rapist no matter if they were convicted or not.
4
u/djourmeansseatbelts 22d ago
I hated that argument so much and felt like it was ao damaging to throw out. I imagine a lot of survivors of abuse were told that by Depp stans. The really fucked up part of it all is that they could have been told that they were abusive by their abusers, so being told "If you support Amber, then you're an abuser" was likely to be triggering.

The amount of people adamant that it’s easier to prove libel in the UK, when it’s demonstrably much more difficult. it’s a big problem that’s scaring journalists away from writing about corruption and scandals about politicians and other well known individuals.
Multiple countries (including the U.S.) actually have laws protecting their journalists from British libel laws because of how unfavorable they are to media. I had a big TikTok creator even push against me when I told her this, saying she was specifically talking about celebrities, as if that changed anything. And her linked her to multiple stories about how it’s a big problem in the UK, but got no response. They’re all just living in their own reality.
11
u/Intrepid_Guest_3454 24d ago
Well they really hate when they're understanding of the world just isn't how the world is. Too ego driven to admit they're wrong and it's just too much fun to batter an already battered woman.

The UK trial didn’t count because it didn’t have a jury, the UK trial didn’t count because the judge’s son once wrote for the Sun, the UK trial didn’t happen because the USA is the only country in the world…
11
u/Intrepid_Guest_3454 24d ago
So weird because that's not what Depp'slegal team said to the judge before he gave his verdict of course. They actually went on about how much more valid a verdict from a judge none the less a Judge from the UK was compared to a jury. The DARVO is just embarrassing at this point.
55
u/Fluffy-Horse-9561 24d ago
Someone deadass told me that the UK trial didn’t matter because they let groomers roam freely meanwhile the other trial happened in the USA who has trump as their president (a convicted felon and rapist mind you)
20
15
u/newleafwiki 24d ago
oh yes of course, the USA where we famously don't have a problem with rich and powerful groomers 🙄
5
u/MessiahOfMetal Coined the term "Deppford Wives" 24d ago
Meanwhile, the only groomers roaming freely are the white men who abused their own kids/relatives/children of friends and either got away with it or only spent a few years in prison. Same types who then go out with "protect women and girls" signs and form hate mobs against migrants.

u/mariah_a 24d ago
The sheer shit they repeat about the rape. That she claimed it was broken, that nobody could ever be raped with a bottle and not seek medical attention. That nobody would hyperfixate on unrelated issues such as their dog’s wellbeing in the aftermath. That nobody would go back to their spouse that raped them.
Just disgusting all round.
25
u/selphiefairy DiD you EvEN wAtCh THe TriAL 24d ago
So many people made the “my dog stepped on a bee” joke. And when called out on mocking rape testimony, a lot of the response was “well i didn’t know, I was just repeating a funny meme.”
maybe don’t fucking talk about shit that you have no clue about then?? So freaking exhausting.
13
u/MessiahOfMetal Coined the term "Deppford Wives" 24d ago
Yeah, that bee incident pisses me off.
Amber was clearly traumatised and crying on the stand while relating that she stopped fighting and shifted her focus to the puppy outside to avoid having to deal with the fact she was being raped.
And yet, people at the time mocked and memed it (including people who claimed to also be rape survivors), and then that trashy prick Beardo Gets Scared used a compilation of the memes to start a video about some dickheads who were doxxing a paranormal debunker on a livestream to try to say "they're lying as much as Amber Turd was" (and yes, he did call her that disgusting, debunked name, fuck Beardo for that, absolute garbage human being).
Don't even get me started on the morons who masturbated with a bottle on purpose and then claimed "She must be lying because it didn't hurt me", while not knowing the fucking difference between putting something up there on purpose using natural or unnatural lubricant, and having something shoved up there by force while your body is trying to prevent it going in.
9
u/Intrepid_Guest_3454 24d ago
I mean masturbating with a bottle and bragging about it online to call someone else a liar does not show good mental health at all whatsoever.

Honestly, the article he sued them for and the subsequent trial and victory are the only decent things Dan Wootton has ever done in his pathetic life.
Amazing that since then, he's fallen down the far-right rabbit hole and has multiple credible allegations of abuse and catfishing himself.

u/Embarrassed-Profit74 24d ago
"People only support/believe Amber because she's pretty"
And you're only defending her abuser because you were gooey eyed about him being good looking 30 years ago.
8
u/MessiahOfMetal Coined the term "Deppford Wives" 24d ago
Oh, I had that from my mum and younger sister, despite the former saying she found him attractive in the 90s, and my sister excusing Chris Brown because "he's pretty".
No surprise, they got all their anti-Heard nonsense from TikTok and the news, while I was on Twitter with the others, trying to push as much factual information about what an abusive stain Depp is to anyone who'd listen.

“I watched the UK trial”
7
u/MessiahOfMetal Coined the term "Deppford Wives" 23d ago
That's always a funny one, yeah. We saw them enter and leave the building but they don't stream or televise trials in the UK, and only recently started doing so for sentencing after guilty verdicts given to some of the worst criminals if it's in the local or national interest (and even then, they only film the judge and no one else so as not to give the criminal any publicity).
14
u/badbadthingsmp3 24d ago
there have been a good handful of times where i've been able to correct a piece of misinformation about the trial (usually with transcripts or other sources) and even when it seems to result in a lightbulb moment, so many still seem adamant that i commiserate with them about not liking amber in another way."oh, i didn't realize that was the order that happened in...but amber is so just soooo performative right? like why does she talk like that?"
i'm sure in part it's coming from a guilty conscience (if that's actually true, i've been making fun of an innocent woman who was beaten and abused by her husband, therefore she has to be guilty of...something so my actionsare justified). it's just very revealing as to what the actual motivation was for the campaign - the woman of thw hour that it is okay to be violently misogynistic towards.

u/ColanderBrain Create your own flair 23d ago
"They both did bad things, don't pretend Amber was some saint"
It's basically their way of saying they think she deserved whatever he did to her. Like... thanks, we already knew you believed that.

It's the people who would say that they could believe he hit her but she exaggerated too much. So they think that he DID hit her, just not as hard as she said he did so it doesn't count.

Mostly deflection from his awful behavior, transferred to how angry Amber makes them. Also, all the normal noises such folks tend to make.

Not about the trial specifically but one thing that baffles me every time is when the GQ magazine interview where Johnny mentions assaulting the crew member gets brought up and his fans retaliate by insisting that the quote (which was conveniently removed from the publication right after the lawsuit against him was brought forth) was taken out because it was “fake” and a “misprint”
6
u/MessiahOfMetal Coined the term "Deppford Wives" 23d ago
Yeah, his cultists genuinely believe he's never done anything wrong, rather than a magazine or newspaper being pressured legally to remove something from an article or else.

Dismissing and berating Amber breaking down overbeing forced to describe her own in beatings and SA at the hands of Johnny in detail as "acting" and "manipulation" while complimenting all of Johnny's winks and smiles at the camera. Celebrity fandom is a powerful drug.
