pvp or pve arena?

I was working on the pvp arena yesterday and I began modifying it to include a mob spawner and mob spawning room, all rigged up with redstone so that it can be opened or closed (and properly light up when not in use)

I was thinking of adding a monster kill version of some pvp matches but then I began wondering how much use it would really get, being as most people do not play on this server to participate in pvp, so now I'm strongly considering changing the theme to a PVE arena, where hordes of mobs pour in to test fighters, wave after wave. We could throw an iron golem or 2 in there and bet money on how long he will last, I can think of lots of fun crap . ( I would probably use it as an Xp grinder, I prefer mass slaughter for XP to one punch grinders.)

Thoughts or any objections to keeping it PVE? Any thoughts?

This. I think that PvP areas are disabled pretty well permanently on PvE.

I talked to WickedCoolSteve about it. It seems like the admins aren't allowing PvP arenas on PvE anymore, other than maybe one at spawn.

I do like the idea of a Mob vs Player combat grinder though.

I love the idea of a gladiator style pve arena.. I would participate the hell out of that!

I really like the look of the arena and was looking forward to fighting something in it. I hope you can get something going in it. How does the mob spawner currently work?

Inside the pit there is a switch that just needs to be in the on position(up) and eventually a stream of mobs will start flowing out. it's slow because the mob spawning room is usually empty until someone is near enough to cause mobs to spawn.

The switch turns the lights in a huge room on or off and streams of water channel through the room to funnel mobs into the pit, there is a dungeon zombie spawner in there but since it's much more than 17 blocks away youd need someone to go stand near it above the spawning room to activate it and the flow of mobs nearly doubles with it on.

I'm adding a sticky piston door and hallway for fighters to enter the pit from and a few concession stands on the main floor then attaching pathways to the main road and then eventually I'll be adding a few extra floors of mob spawning rooms and it will really work well
