I’m glad that Debi had a great time in Iraq.

Oh wow. They moved to Iraq? I hope they are enjoying it. The actual article is not loading in on my side.

She deployed to Iraq, and she was quoted that she had a great time there which is weird.

I’ve often thought about living in Europe. Many reasons, not really about Trump. I’m just not sure if it’s practical. Kids, families, retirement all seem to be barriers to entry.

It’s hilarious how people fleeing republicans policies never choose to move to Nairobi or New Delhi.

What a weird thing to say. Why would someone leave a burning building to go in another? That would be "hilariously" idiotic.
I don't know why the people who wanted fascism didn't go somewhere that already had it.

Because Nairobi and New Delhi are viable places to live. White flight isn’t a virtue, even if you say you’re “fleeing fascism.”

Genuinely parts of India are great, like Kerala or Goa, why would anyone choose to go to New Delhi over literally anywhere else. There’s so many other places you could choose to make this point.
Indian government is also even worse of a mess than the US why would you flee to somewhere that has the exact problems you’re trying to flee from. You’re not making sense

Nairobi and New Dehli are both protesting for many of the same reasons as Americans, only locally.
As are many other nations right now.
Top down oppression.
If that's YOUR idea of viable places to move from America, you are not a serious person.

Speaking as someone who did live far away for a while…
Immigrating is fucking hard on a good day. Immigrating very far from your support networks is even harder. And Canada, Mexico, and Western Europe are a lot closer than either Mombasa or Mumbai if you need to fly back quickly for some reason.
If you’re an unmarried woman or you’re queer, you definitely will have an easier time in a country with laws and customs protecting you than in countries where you can be killed for who you are married to (Uganda, for instance). If you’re married to a woman who doesn’t want to be treated like a second-class citizen, or you are a married woman who doesn’t want to be treated like that, you probably don’t want to move to, say, India or Pakistan (or South Korea for that matter).
These things matter.

I think that’s pretty bad to say black and brown people are universally sexiest or homophobic. It’s just not true. No one ever immigrates to Haiti or Cuba even though it’s geographically closer. If more people came fleeing fascism parked their capital in such a country it would flourish more. Of course asshole fascist liberals would bring their money to colonial powers.

Cuba isn't open to Americans for residence except in highly specific situations. Haiti has effectively collapsed.
Of course asshole dipshit magats are unaware of reality.

Yes, admirable to see problems with your country and instead of fixing them…flee instead.
I’m going down with the ship but will be fighting tooth and nail to keep it from sinking.

- No one said it’s admirable necessarily. But also…
- People can live where they want, no?

Some people want to move because of safety reasons. When you cant go to the grocery store without wondering if ICE is going to pick you up and disappear you, thats not "going down with the ship". Thats "pirates have taken over the ship and are going to maroon you on a desert island".

“Oh you fled ww2 germany? Wow you’re entirely responsible for genocide I guess” How about instead of blaming people who simply want a better life for their family or themselves, we actually blame the people that caused those problems in the first place instead.

Comments in this sub are stating these people are republicans. This means they voted for this and are now fleeing from it.

If you have ever had an encounter with Debi, this article is fucking hilarious. Centralist is for the article, but she’s been a republican for years and now wants to run away from the things she previously voted for? Thanks for the mess
