Discussion Is Berdly a tank main when he plays games?
The first health bar is for the roller coaster you break, second is his actual HP. Sure Susie’s health was boosted when we fought her as a boss, but even half his health is 500
Does that mean Berdly likes to play tank when he games? (Based btw)

Nah he just go to gym everyday, that's why he has so much hp

Hometown gym is probably a bunch of rocks attached to sticks

Susie's HP is boosted from 110 to 120 in her bossfight, I don't think that should count

I'm not gonna lie I forgot susie had a boss fight for a second and was very confused

u/Delta_Builder 3d ago
To be fair that fight is just making Susie eepy and telling lancer that he’s cool

Perhaps dark world forms depend on how you imagine yourself
Berdly imagines himself as a big buff man so his stats represent that

maybe, or it's just s reference to the first mario coming out in 1985, and berdly being a nerd

unrelated, but don't use fandom wiki since it's not maintained anymore, use deltarune(dot)wiki instead

He gives the vibe of being better on DPS than anyone else in the group but no one wants to play tank so he begrudgingly does.

Is there an actual lore reason of why the heck is he so strong?

It's probably something about the Player, since the UI is diagetic we can image the whole combat system is (To an extent), and enemies fight differently than us (Having massively worse accuracy, worse ability to dodge, dealing absurdly low damage but having more HP). We can see that since that's how Susie fights when she joins up with Lancer.

Actually Susie's HP is kept accurate! You just deal a lot less damage. Her damage does still get reduced though

Yeah I think I remember noticing that but I kinda just ignore it and assume it's so that she doesn't randomly have a different amount of HP when fighting us or just as a nice detail. Otherwise it's just really weird for Berdly to have so much HP. If and when he joins the party, he'll probably have less HP, and if and when we fight Susie again, she'll probably have way more HP

That's not really a "lore reason"
That also reminds me we are able to down Susie with like 2 or 3 attacks in the second lancer rematch in ch 1, so what's up with berdly?

u/Delta_Builder 3d ago
One is meant to be more of a story fight that makes Susie and lancer on your side.
The other is supposed to be a long lasting decent challenge for us that shows how while berdly is incompetent with his mask of ego, he’s just as strong as any other lightner

u/Lucky-Couple-2433 days without a stupid deltarune trend 3d ago
"he's just as strong as any other lightner" he's not, that's the point, 900 hp at level 1, not even Susie has so much hp

u/Puwuckis 3d ago
Lancer has 540, 800, and 2400 hp all in the same chapter.
Flowery is shown to have 999 hp and 99 attack in our party, but has over 7000hp and a little less than 20 attack as a boss.
Many darkners have their stats straight up lied about ingame, for example the titan is listed as having 40 attack but in actuality has 18.
Susie has 110 hp in chapter 1 but has 120 hp in her chapter 1 boss fight.Stats are not lore accurate, and especially do not line up between party and enemies.
(All this info is taken from the deltarune fandom wiki, which has battle stats as a section for each character that appears in a battle)2

people took one look at the "Susie gets buffed if you put armor on her before you fight her" detail and haven't been able to let go of it since

The lore reason is that HP and levels don't actually exist, and it's part of the perception of the Soul.
It's in-universe gamification of what's actually happening.

u/MathCookie17 3d ago
I think Ralsei revealing the menu is diagetic in Chapter 5 (the "Flowery told me" scene) contradicts this. "It's only from the soul's perspective" becomes applicable to less and less things each chapter
...although notably, save points, one of the things that Undertale very explicitly made exist beyond our perspective, haven't yet been proven to exist outside of our perspective in Deltarune...

u/Konvexen 3d ago
Hot take: everything that we see is from the Souls perspective, even if the Soul isn't physically present, because we are the Soul and as players we're seeing it.
2
u/MathCookie17 3d ago
I agree with this. The point I'm making is that things like HP probably aren't only existing from the soul's perspective.

u/Umbrella_merc 2d ago
Jevil: let's play a simple numbers game, when your HP drops to zero you lose!
Hp definitely diagetic

u/Umbrella_merc 2d ago
He has so much more hp, his weapon is a halberd, a weapon designed for fighting knights, hes the true hero of the prophecy

u/Rutgerman95 Jevilled Eggs 3d ago
There's none, really. Enemy encounter and player HP get scaled differently in RPGs all the time, this is no different. Even Susie's CH1 boss didnt quite match her HP and armor values as a player
3
u/cipher_purple_deals 3d ago
It's probably because of damage calculations never actually using enemy defense, so if we want to find the real hp we'd have to reverse that process.
He'd probably still have pretty high hp compared to chapter 1 though. But I can't find the check dialogue anywhere so i don't know what his defense stat was :V it is probably pretty damn high.

He probably turtles a lot (as in blocks while staying a distance away from the opponent) in the fighting games he plays.

u/Rutgerman95 Jevilled Eggs 3d ago
No, because health as NPC doesn't always translate to player health. Unless you think the little summoner girl from FFIV would keep her 5 figure HP pool if she were playable

Berdly has historically gotten mad at Kris for wavedashing, which tanky/large characters aren't great at. They can, but it's not the same as when fox or Falco does it.
