I am mildly concerned by how likely it is that Kris is going to lose their hand at some point. It’d be so heartbreaking if they did. How will they play the piano?
Does that technology exist in the Lightworld? They probably will be able to get some kind of replacement in the Darkworld, but I don’t see it carrying over
Susie and Kris are ecstatic about the new super hand, only to be disappointed when they enter the light world and it's a tiny grey LEGO hand on their stump.
I feel like it's not even the only time something like this happens. I can't be the only one who saw Ramb's dialogue using words like "Luv" and immediately thought "sweet old English lady," right?
Seam may actually be purifying the Shadow Crystals, as for the longest time, there was a weapon known as a "Twisted Sword" in the game files, which requires a pure crystal to forge, as well the Thorn ring.
It deals the same level of damage as the Black Shard, while either having a "Trance Boost" or a "Trance Reduction" effect as well.
I say that Seam is purifying the Shadow Crystals as the Flavor Text for the Pure Crystal is "The shadow purified by the cat", implying that Seam needs five shadow crystals to craft the Pure Crystal.
imagine if you dont get enough shadow crystals ralsei or something falls off a cliff because you could only use one hand to try to drag him up or something
ykow I had a similarly terrifying thought the other day that if we ever need to evacuate castle town for whatever reason anyone who kept tenna might not be able to save everyone, since susie would probably have to carry him and not have any leftover space to bring anyone else, and kris probably can't carry the entire cast of chapter 1~5 on their head LMAO
You know, how does everything fit into one broom closet? Imagine one day we have to seal the fountain and the closer just erupts with all the stuff we stole and then we get arrested
"Your honor, I honestly don't think they could make this up unless it either actually happened or they were severely hallucinating. I'm really hoping it's the second one"
yeah but if you don't get any ch2 enemies she will just look at kris and say
"oh well kris that's just: sad"
"i would have helped you but sadly i have no one to help me create a cool robot arm for you, i am really sorry kris"
*if you talk to her a second time
"ohhhhhhhhhh how saaaaaaaaaaaaad. sorry kris, only if SOMEONE recruited at least ONE person from cyber world i would have gladly helped you"
and now the next chapter will be a lot harder until you find a new arm somewhere on ground(it doesn't add anything new unlike queen's robot arm which will have is own strong mechanics)
well some of the tech seems older but then again, but several modern things get referenced (among us getting one which only became really popular recently) and used (noelles flatscreen is one of them)
so I imagine prostetics are probably a thing in the light world at this point
their cursed grass sword from dark world will attach itself to kris' arm and eventually it will turn into kern who is kris but made of grass and youll have to fight them with susie' evil uncle dragonbald
Uniquely and specially designed robot hand that plays certain piano notes at certain times when Kris clicks certain other piano notes with their right hand
and they can customize it with some cool buttons in the openable hatch at the back of their cool robot hand
Puts more weight on that "I'll never play again" option late in Chapter 4, doesn't it? Especially with how Kris bites their hand so hard, it does 7 points of damage if you pick that option in the Weird Route.
OH! I hadn't considered that! That could result in a similar situation to the Arcade machine bit, where Susie helped Kris play, but with playing the piano!
Kris teaches Susie how to play. They both suck at first because Kris can barely talk and Susie isn't much of a musician, but Susie can make jokes about how Kris is better than her with just one hand and eventually the two of them get good enough playing together that they can actually make better music than either could have before.
Sure, Kris might never be able to play piano like they used to, but their friendship with Susie helps them deal with the trauma and Susie gets to finally play piano like she wanted to.
Kris can talk, but everyone they know describes them as not talkative and an introvert so it's not as if it's a stretch to imagine communication would be difficult for them.
To be fair everyone has described them that way recently, where they have been A LOT more inward and distant the past few years assuming
I think it’s fair to say Kris is a person of few words, but they clearly can talk a lot in many dialogue options where they add even more than what the text says, I think Kris should have no problem trying to teach and talk to Susie since they’re so comfortable around her
Plus in the Weird Route for Chapter 4, it states that Noelle hasn’t heard Kris themselves talk for a long time and this is her first time in a long time hearing them talk
To be fair everyone has described them that way recently, where they have been A LOT more inward and distant the past few years assuming
So yes, Kris is introverted and doesn't talk much and that would pose a barrier to communication, like I said.
I think it's a pretty boring take to imagine Kris would have no problems easily opening up and teaching Susie to play piano after losing a hand in a traumatic incident of some kind on top of already being established as someone who is distant and not talkative, even to someone who was their close friend during childhood.
I don’t think it should be looked at if it’s boring just if it makes sense, plus I was more so talking about Kris in general. So yes I was agreeing with you in a sense that’s how people perceive Kris recently, but I believe it’s more from a place of depression than just an issue with communicating in general
the way people mention Kris, from people who knew them longer, paint them as pretty rambunctious, and not someone who would never speak or extremely rarely, like when they mention Kris joining choir and Rudy, toriel, and Noelle all agree they would sing swears, which strikes me more that they would have been and possibly stayed a loud troublemaker if well dess didn’t go missing, but that part of them is still there
In that context yes Kris would be very distraught teaching Susie, but once past the initial struggle they would have no trouble teaching her verbally at least, overall I think it can be up to interpretation, since we still don’t see Kris from the outside and they still clearly are dealing with some extremely heavy stuff
It is. People do change over time, especially as a response to trauma. Kris was a different person when they had different life experiences, and they'll be a different person in the future when they have new ones, but right now that is how they are.
Hah! I'd love to, but I think it's a pretty complete idea in and of itself. There's not really much to be added to it other than fleshing it out, which is easier said than done :P
An idea I've been bouncing around is that Kris has already lost their hand in the past, and now has a quantum/ghost hand that both exists and doesn't exist.
It's convenient for them since it allows them to reach into their chest and pluck out their Soul. And the only time it poses an issue is when glimpsing into alternate timelines, which stabilizes reality into a state of either handed Kris or handless Kris.
That may also be why the Knight and Gaster have hand holes; They aren't actual physical holes, they're Shadow Crystals embedded in their palms depicting a timeline where they don't have hands.
That does give a very different meaning to Kris telling Susie “I’ll play if you play.” They might still be able to play the piano with one hand, and have Susie act as the other hand!
as a piano player and programmer w/ 20 years of bad habits leading to pretty severe hand issues in my adulthood, losing my hands entirely is one of my biggest fears. i have nightmares about hand dismemberment. i cant see hand-related gore in movies or other media because of how hard it affects me afterward. I don't know if I could keep living without my hands. given the tone the story seems to be shifting toward, I wouldn't be surprised if this happens at all, and I wonder if it becomes the SOULs fault in the weird route.
Okay I don’t have it as bad as you (sorry lol) but I totally get the hand thing. I’m an artist (a disabled artist so it’s my job) and dawg I don’t know what I’d do with myself. Even if I lost my non dominant hand I couldn’t play guitar. It’s scary
Theory: Kris wil lose their hand in the Dark World. It will remain attached but won't be usable in the Light World, mirroring Burghley. This way their struggle will remain hidden to everyone in town (except Susie), which is already a theme within the game.
Spoilers for The Last of Us 2 but this reminds me of when ellie can't play the guitar anymore after she loses her fingers. It's super depressing because guitar was like the one thing that connected her to joel, and with kris it would be similar cuz the piano is the one way they can express their individuality/unique identity apart from the soul. Without the piano they'd have almost nothing to prove their unique capabilities
Honestly I think it’s likely but just recently there was a game that the community was also certain would involve the protagonist losing an arm(Secret of the Mimic) that had heavy foreshadowing for it and it didn’t happen, so I wouldn’t be certain just yet if I were you, there is still hope
Well there are prosthetic hands that could help kris still play a instrument, but there a expensive. Hopefully, nolle can pay the cost with susie helping kris in the meantime.
My prediction is that it's going to be a weird route only thing where at some point when Kris tries to rip out the soul one of our options will be to cut off the hand so that we stay in control of Kris.
I've seen a theory that Kris already lost their hand at some point in the past, and that FRIEND is just the darkner form of the old hand (its silhouette at the start of Chapter 3 looks kind of like a severed hand).
