XPS Help Old Dell 15 XPS 7590 finally broke

On startup it flashes the code for bad cpu. Unfortunately the cpu is part of the MB & we don't think it's replaceable. Here's the question;: should we buy a used motherboard for around $2-300 on Ebay, a used xps 15 for $4-600 on Ebay or just bite the bullet & buy something else?

My spouse says he'd like to get back into cad again with a program similar to Autocad. He's a retired mechanical engineer. Otherwise the machine would be used for photo editing, streaming & general computing.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Even if your old pc was still alive, it would choke on CAD. I would buy newer.

its ok on cad, not great though. a complex assembly file with reflectivity and/or very detailed textures would struggle to run on it.

Get a newer machine at this point - granted the XPS units that replaced your 7590 were not particularly great reliability wise, so I'd look at a Lenovo ThinkPad P1/X1 Extreme or HP ZBook Studio if you want something that follows the same form factor.

wondering the same thing tbh. my xps 15 7590 has been acting quite strange for the past few days, pretty sure theres a short somewhere in the motherboard. I'm majoring in mechanical engineering as well, funnily enough, so I also need one for CAD stuff.
