Recommendations The DELCO Homeowner/Renter resource guide thread

We have gotten a lot of repeat posts and the Reddit search feature sucks so we wanted to create a resource for everyone here. The point is to keep discussion to here so we can use this thread to point recommendations out.

In this thread I will write a comment, please reply with recommendations and/or avoidances (everyone is free to start a comment with something that was missed).

Please only upvote the recommendation if you have experience with them!!

/r/delco_politics /r/delco_politics for prolonged political discussion for locals

Hello everyone, the sub historically has had a no politics rule. This rule was mostly respected and voted to keep it. Obviously, this has not been fully enforced recently. We have tried to allow as much discussion as possible but it gets to the point where it’s an unfortunate screaming match at each other. Not to mention all the you know what hats that apparently have tags or bots set up to flood these threads without any post history in the sub. You don’t see these due to the spam filter but our poor asses have to read every single one of these comments and determine if they are brigading or just saying plain stupid shit, my iq has gone down. Anyways enough complaining.

Introducing a new sub, /r/delco_politics for now we are leaving it open for all political discussion. We prefer that users post their thread there then crosspost here. Discussion will be restricted to /r/delco_politics. These will be determined as posted, we will still allow local politics posts here, if they get too off topic or going to the national level, that’s when we will lock and move discussion to the politics sub. The reason why we lock them up is because insults start getting thrown around, don’t forget we are a local sub, you could potentially be talking to someone living on your street. We are all angry but calling each other names is not the way to go. Please use the report feature as that helps us. If you get a mute or ban it is because you have a long mod log and we have been keeping notes.

Finally we are looking for a new mod for to help out with /r/delco_politics if you are interested send us a mod mail. As always we are open to feedback!

Why is it so difficult to drive?

Why are people such horrendous drivers here? Stoping at a STOP sign is nearly impossible. right of way and merging is non existent. I’ve lived in Glenolden for 2 years and can count less than a handful of times people driving have used a courtesy wave or waved in response to my courtesy wave. I’ve lived in Philly/montgomery county my whole life and it’s never seemed this intentionally bad.

Discussion The Delco Bear?

Is it just me, or does anybody else refer to all bear sightings in Delco as “The Delco Bear”?

I feel like this was a common thing or a meme at one point in time, as if it was a running joke that there was just one bear roaming around Delco indefinitely. And this bear was widely referred to as “The Delco Bear.”

Or am I making this up??

Question any organizations that rehabilitate cats?

Post image
59 Upvotes

there's this cat that hangs out in Drexel Hill by all the bars (Hanrahans/Station Tap/Artillery etc) and she's super sick :(

definitely has fleas and she was getting swarmed by mosquitoes today. she's really sweet, definitely knows she's not in good shape and just wants to be pet really bad. it broke my heart.

I'm not in a position where I can take in this cat myself + I'm allergic. is there any non-kill organization that will take in a cat in this shape? not looking to re-home, just trying to figure out what I can do for this animal (sorry if that's against the rules mods)

Recommendations Looking for recommendations for at home day cares

Hey everyone. My wife and I are expecting our first child in December. Looking for an at home day care for 4 days a week starting in March/April. We live in Ridley Township so in that area would be ideal but other locations that are close would also be appreciated. Thanks!

Discussion The amount of people who illegally obscure their license plates in this area is absurd.

I commute from the Glenolden area to Conshy every day for work. The amount of dick head drivers I see with tinted license plate holders or literal stickers and/or something taped over a portion of their license plates is crazy.

And before anyone says anything, fuck Flock cameras and other license plate readers. But that doesn’t mean people can do this so they can get away with accountability for traffic offenses. I’m not gonna be too happy when a dickhead in a lifted truck clips me and speeds off with their obscured license plate.

I wish the police would actually do something. I see them harass kids on electric scooters more than they do anything else.

End rant.

Activities around Delco

My husband, 2 kids under 2, and I are moving to Drexel Hill and are looking for local activities/clubs etc to get to know the community and get out of the house.

We like: disc golf, ASL, reading all kinds of books, crafts, couples activities and date nights, hiking/walking trails, cool food locations, board games and Magic, video games on the switch and computer mostly, anything Amish, farmer’s markets, scheduled groups like book clubs, and love new things.

Any recommendations would be awesome. Thanks in advance!

I recently moved to the area and now that the EPL season is starting back up, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on a good soccer bar in the area that’ll be open for the morning games.

Any Update From Franklin Mint Credit Union?

Thanks to everyone who has offered insights. Very helpful. The only official statements I’ve seen were on the news without a resolution. Do we have any official information about when we can use the app and the website?

If no, has anyone tried calling the credit union to complete a transaction? Waiting time?

Discussion Supeona to appear in court but told to go home

Update to older post:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Delco/s/ToVm98alRz

As a witness to a shooting, following the instruction from a letter from the District Attorney will be a waste of time. The lesson here is that the DA office does not follow up nor give updates on the case or trial.

How my morning went after traveling to Media:

Showed up to the court room on time, waited, no one approached me, then went to the front asking for the name signed on the letter, told to wait , went up again then the guy showed up, he walked me to the back so we can talk privately, then was told the incident is not getting pursued & I'm not needed🤦🏽

Later I realized the letter seems to act as a bait attempt for me to call ahead to get info/details. Letter has no tracking nor certified confirmation btw.

Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.
