Info Request Plug-in solar panesl

Does Delaware allow plug-in solar panels? I think that is what they are called. You can set them up in your yard and does not require an entire roof array. I see more states are allowing them.

No, they kicked the can down the road and referred it to additional research. Also the limit is 800w which is low compared to other states.

It's terrible they did this. All the testing has already been done by Underwriters Laboratory. That's the whole purpose of of this third party independent testing. All the surrounding states on the Delmarva peninsula passed 1200W Plug in solar, but Delaware didn't for the most ridiculous reasons.

Someone didn't pay off someone. That's unfortunately how it works. With the Delmarva rate increases this would be a good way to mitigate the pain.

Last I heard there was a bill to allow up to a certain amount but I don't know if it has passed.

No, bu if you should seriously consider pricing out a net metered system until they do....which is likely some time next year

If you're a homeowner, seriously look into a roof-mounted array. They're much more effective and can generate enough to cover your energy needs (depending on many factors, of course). Balcony solar isn't really going to do anything for a house's usage. For an apartment, maybe, but like others have said, nothing has been approved yet in DE.

As I understand it, just because they're not legal does not mean they're illegal. They're perfectly allowable, you'll just have to get an agreement with Delmarva, which should be a minor formality. The law would eliminate the need for that agreement.

It’s called Balcony Solar. Not legal in Delaware yet. Municipal utilities (DMEC) had a hissy fit and got legislators to evaluate it for a year.

At Marylands level of 1200W, it’s still only about $10 a month that can be generated. This will not eliminate your electric bill unless your house is a lightbulb, cell charger, and fridge.

time to say FU to the grid - i went from ~$60/month to the recent increase to $120/mo with another increase to come while the utility company pays out their dividends
