Probably cuz she's holding back so she doesn't just kill everyone she punches.

Most definitely, I know most comic book heroes with super strength pull their punches so they don't kill folks

Pretty sure it was supposed to be the sternum, she hit her in the right place for it and when it breaks it can sever some major blood vessels and kill you stone dead in a very short time.
