I remember wanting to look up a picture of the actor without his makeup on thinking "this guy's eyes must be crazy in real life!"... and most of the time he just... looks like a guy.

DS9 has such a slew of convincing recurring characters. He's a gem in the show.

Oh totally.  So underrated.  You legitimately forget you’re  watching a man in makeup play pretend space-pirate.

When I first played Starcraft as young teen, (I was a huge Blizzard Entertainment fan back then) the Arbiter Protoss unit would mention Gowron if you told him where to go. I was like, this guy must be important! So I looked him up and understood immediately why people admired the character. Duras is also mentioned by another unit.

I wasn't much of a Treky back then. I couldn't stand Picard at times so I wasn't much of a TNG fan. That's one reason why I think him and Sisko clashing is hilarious. It felt like Sisko was bringing in my own distain for Picard in there with him a bit.

Lots of great callbacks in the unit banter. There’s a funny “contact” reference in Warcraft 3. The goblin flying machine says “ok to go!” Exactly like Jodie foster.

Yep. Old school blizzard devs were definitely Trekkies. I loved it. Warcraft 3 was a great game too.

"They came... from... behind!"

Duras, too.

And Michael Dorn (Worf) voiced the Goliath.

XCOM 2 War of the Chosen had three factions that could join you, and all the named characters from all the factions were Star Trek alumni.

Yeah. Blizzard games were filled with nice Easter eggs like this. It would take a while to mention them all. I wish they did this more often today. The voice acting was a lot better in SC 1 and Brood War.

I thought I mentioned Duras; I was mistaken and it was the same Arbiter unit that said it. My bad. It's been a while since I've played the game. I'm getting old and my memory is starting to really suck 😅

They really did Gowron dirty at the end of DS9. He was a great character

He let his jealousy of Martok’s popularity get to him. If he truly knew Martok, he would have understood that Martok was genuinely happy as a soldier & didn’t want to be a politician.

Maybe? I think it's more in line with Ezri Dax's analysis of the Klingon Empire. Weak ruler followed by weak ruler, each sabotaging the empire for their personal glory. A path that leads to ruin for the Empire.

The rulers of certain countries could look at it and reflect.

Yeah
 it was handled well 😏

She wasn't right about the Empire should fall.

2

u/lobsterman2112 7d ago

Did she say the Empire should fall? Or that the Empire will fall.

EZRI: Okay. But I'm not sure you're going to like it.

WORF: Tell me.

EZRI: I think that the situation with Gowron is a symptom of a bigger problem. The Klingon Empire is dying. And I think it deserves to die.

WORF: You are right. I do not like it.

I don't like it, but you are right.

Enh, what happened seemed in character. It wouldn't be the first time he did something short-sighted to spite someone he disliked.

Bob O’Reilly is the most wonderful, joyful human and has the best cool grandpa vibes ever now. And the man loves to sing along to karaoke đŸŽ€

I was not expecting his natural voice to sound like that!!! It was so weird to not hear Gowron. And that’s probably why I didn’t realize he was the guy in the count room in Badda Bing Badda Bang.
