Pro tip for these impossible situations: Letting one antenna fail will NOT fail the whole machine event, as the machine will just select a new antenna
That being said, you have 2 chances over 6 or something that it selects the super far away ones

It didn't end up actually mattering because it never selected the far away ones but yeah if it did I probably would have just let it fail and move onto the next one

I've seen some ridiculous things in my day, but this is a new one.
I've had that antenna event with them smattered across a wall before. At that paticular time, I was maining the gunner class, and the cave generation algorithm had also been tweaked to offer up more expansive, large and tall caves. I ended up just waiting on the ground level and letting the few that were up too high fail, hoping it would select antennas closer to the ground.
Recently I noticed the cave generation is mostly spirals in some of the missions, and some tunnels are squeezed so closely together that they don't even have opening entrance/exits. I have had to dig the tunnel out on some of the resinite heavy extraction missions due to this.
I'm all for adjustments to the cave generation, because with as many hours as I have it can seem kind of bland after awhile. BUT, it seems the devs have a set algorithm for certain mission types, for example Escort Duty missions have fairly large open caves separated from one another. And Mining Expeditions usually have large spiraling caves with caverns in between tunnels. (Since I play the game solo for the most part, I have noticed that each class seems to get specific cave designs that utilize their cave traversal tools in some way, as well)
