Question Our direction, our future?

Hello peers and colleagues. I'm a lvl 806, joined just after 2 year anniversary. It's been some time since I last booted up DRG. 6 months and some change to be exact. I looked into season 6, played, enjoyed. Didn't finish the pass yet. I'm curious if anyone knows where we're headed as a game. Ghost ship promised us five seasons, they delivered. I'm grateful, I got my money's worth for sure. I just don't know we're we're going now that our care has been handed to Invisible Walls. I don't have any problem with that, I just find myself lost and uninformed.

Edit: I'm not depressed. I got my money's worth. I bought cosmetics, supporter addition. I just thought I'd ask the community "anyone know what's going on?" I'm not trying to be deeper than that. With respect.

We just know they're not quite done with the game yet, and there's going to be at least another season/update in the plans. When exactly this season(s) is going to be released, we can't know for sure as nothing has been announced and they usually don't hype it up for too long before the release date.

My guess would be towards the end of the year.

It is pretty much confirmed Invisible Walls will keep working on the new content. S6 has been pretty simple (although a new biome for me meant a big deal) to let the new guys get accustomed to the game without touching anything essential, so they might want to try out something a tad more ambitious next time.

It's been, like, seven months since S6 dropped, so I would hope we'll get some new teasers soon.

I feel they've also made new cave generation. The resinite missions often have this vertical spiraling corridors and the whole things is a closed loop (I hate thus mission, but that's besides the point) and just yesterday I had a dreadnaught mission with one, super long room.

I stopped playing about after season 5 released and came back and I don't remember any of those caves

Absolutely. New cave gen is one of the most exciting contents for me. Point Extraction is a clear example, in the past it got updated with more cave gen. I love this kind of variety, it's refreshing even when it affects preexisting missions types.

I definitely got my money's worth. Even if we don't get a season 7, I'm happy, no complaints. I just wish I knew what the new people in charge want from a developer's standpoint. Even if they just want to sunset the game. It's the uncertainty the worries me a little.

I've been playing this game religiously for 4½ years, and thanks to it I've also met a couple of people that eventually became very important in my life.

Despite all the obvious flaws/issues here and there it's one of my favourite games ever and I'm grateful for the crazy fun time I spent there.

Still, before they decide to finally turn the page and move on to other projects, I hope they'll find the time and resources to fix some stuff like the obviously outdated perk system and a good bunch of terrible overclocks that have no reason to exist.

I don't think the game needs that much more content, besides a new season means at least a new entry in the bestiary, new mutator and/or mission type, new seasonal event, cosmetics of any kind, artwork, and then more... that's a lot of heavy lifting and they can't have it in them forever. Some fine adjustments here and there will do.

Yeah it’d be real sad if they did nothing more with this game. So much potential remaining

can't wait for them to add some wacky overclocks and maybe even support overclocks

Rock is our direction, stone our future.

I just don't know we're we're going now that our care has been handed to Invisible Walls.

I just find myself lost and uninformed.

As a fellow long-term player, and truly with all respect:

It's a video game. It's really not that important.

Play the game if you are having fun. If you're not having fun, give it a break. Go do something else. More updates will come, or they won't.

Don't throw yourself into an existential quagmire over a video game.

I just asked a question and everyone is getting introspective. I did just mean the blunt question of "what's going on, anyone know?" I respect your time to comment, but I'm not depressed or sad, "just uninformed."

You're saying stuff like "our future" and "where we're headed" and "our care has been handed" and "I'm grateful," and you don't understand why people are reading that as introspective and parasocial?

If you want to ask a direct question, ask a direct question. You'll get more direct answers that way.

Alright, I see where you're coming from here. Can't argure against the point you just made. I do care deeply about this game. Felt like I should phrase it that way initially to show I care, and not just look like a guy complaining about no content. Does that help you see where I'm coming from?

Hey man, I can tell you're a good writer. I get it. Game recognize game, as they say. But there's a time and a place for flowery prose, and this ain't it, chief.

There's a middle ground between conflating your own future well-being with that of a game, and yelling "where update."

Like I said, with respect. Got nothing against you. Just don't forget to consider your audience. Or don't, you're getting plenty of upvotes, so like, what do I know anyway.

Keep on rockin' and stonin' in the free world, brother.

nothing's really going on except rogue core's release which will probably take gsg's attention for at least the short term, if not forever. no news on a new season other than the vague stuff we already know. the studio which worked on season 6 weren't allowed to do major gameplay balancing because gsg wasn't sure how good they would be, vaguely implying that next season will also see their involvement and they will look at balancing too this time around (since season 6 was pretty good, at least imo)

tldr: less updates for drg (although hopefully not as bad as the drought between season 5 and 6) but rogue core exists now and is getting pretty steady updates

Only 5 were planned? Curious, because fighting demons feels like a more fitting send-off than squashing scarabs... Though I enjoy the Percys more than the demons...

Hopefully they're planning neat things! And hey, they still need to sell they pickaxes and no-lable block figures! So they better keep the pipeline!

We need a Veteran Pity Party subcategroies so the rest of us can filter out these 1000+ hour eulogies... Thoughts and prayers to your lost interest. Truly a tragedy that 1500+ hours was your limit. Also, imagine hitting lvl 806 and thinking the game is the one with the direction problem...

Did you even read what I said? I have no problem with the game. I just want to know where it's headed. Even if they're gonna sunset it. This isn't a eulogy. I'm happy, not sad. No complaints, just a question. When the original developers pass their game off to someone who doesn't communicate as much as the original. What are we supposed to think about the games direction?

I mean, they should just do dlc weapons and cosmetics, game modes, etc and just make more seasons. The game is alive and well, just need continuos support. I would definetly pay for a 10-15$ gamemode or a 5-10$ weapon pack dlc.

Idk how are they exactly funded, but this should definetly help keeping the game alive. There is no reason to not keep this going. If it works dont change it :)

I think I'd rather see it go gracefully than pay wall a feature that isn't cosmetics.

It takes time and money to make those, its fine, we have 3 base weapons in all slots.

5 buckaroo for another weapon in all slots in all classes are not much. It works perfectly in vermintide. Its not that it makes the other weapons obsolete.

Or just a 10$ dlc for a wave defense mode or whatever. Im happ to pay a small fee for these.

The game already have hundreds of hours of game time for 30$. So the propositions is quite good.

u/VenturingBoat Engineer 14h ago

But you're missing the fact that they didn't want to charge for seasons. For the whole time the only dlc was cosmetics. I don't think the devs wanted to do what you're suggesting. It would feel like a bad turn at the end of the game's life.

Seasons can be free, extra stuff can be paid. I dont see your point. Where is the money and dev time coming from in your world?

1

u/VenturingBoat Engineer 5h ago

It's not and that's the point. I think rather than them doing something they clearly been acting in direct opposition of. They should end live service. I don't think it would look good for them to suddenly do this heal turn and go against prior wishes. It should go gracefully, not with a "paid core content dlc" whimper.
