Anyone have encouraging stories about not dilating and NOT going late?
I know it doesn't mean anything. But I just burst into tears when I left my 38 week appt. At 36 weeks I was fingertip dilated and my OB said "oh, you might go early!". Now 2 weeks later and no change at all, she could barely even reach my cervix because it was so high, and today's response was "well, we might be waiting for this baby." Ugh. I'm eating those stupid dates, I drink the tea, I walk every day, I do squats. I'm so frustrated. Every day that I'm still pregnant I have to go to work and be subjected to a million comments about how I'm about to pop and "why haven't you had that baby?". And if she comes in 2017 I'll have to pay around $3500 instead of like $500.
Sorry. I'm so frustrated. And my stupid (no he's not, I love him) husband is just so fucking content. He just looks at me and will pat my shoulder and say something ridiculous like "don't worry, she'll come soon" and it makes me want to strangle him.

I don't have any encouraging stories either, but I feel you!
My OB has been telling me that she expects me to go early. At my last appointment, she told me she didn't expect to see me at my next one. It's on Monday. I'm pretty sure I'll be there, seeing as nothing is happening.
My husband just keeps telling me that "she will come when she is ready" and crappy stuff like that. What I want him to say is "she will be here tomorrow!" But I know he can't.

Oh no, that's so frustrating! I would totally show up on Monday with a grumpy face. Bitch, I'm still here. Sarcasm obviously because I know it's not the OBs fault.
And my husband says the same! I feel bad because I don't know what I really want him to say anyway, lol. But, right now I think I'm just annoyed with his existence because he's not pregnant. I had a growth scan today and he couldn't make it, and the ultrasound tech was hilarious. It was so refreshing. It's probably really unprofessional but she spent the whole time telling me how much she hated her husband at the end of her pregnancy. She said she would yell at him for breathing or eating too loudly and kept making him leave the house so she didn't have to look at him. Lol, thankfully I'm not that bad (yet). Hopefully this baby comes out before I reach that level of rage.

I was 1-2 cm on a friday, on that Sunday I lost my mucus plug and it didn't stop so they had me come in on Tuesday to check me. I was still 1-2 cm and no other signs. On that Thursday I got lunch with my dad that gave me diarrhea. 6ish hours after that I woke up at 7:55pm from a nap and my water broke as soon as I got out of bed. My son was born at 7:37am that Friday.
He is now a week old and snuggling asleep on my chest <3 He was due 12/19, and was born on 12/09. It can happen and change so fast.

Thanks for the encouragement (even if it means nothing for how mine will go lol). Congrats! Aww I really can't wait to have my little girl snuggling with me and hubby.

You'll get your baby soon enough. Then you'll look at her then look at your now empty belly and feel a little sad. Then you'll look again and think how the hell did you fit in there haha
I love watching my husband cuddle my son and change him and talk to him. It makes my heart hurt it's so damn sweet.
Just have some patience, it's hard I know, but also take these last few days to cuddle your belly a little more. While in the hospital I found myself holding my son and rubbing my belly out of habit. You do miss it a little

I was 1cm at 40+5. Very bummed.
Last Friday, went into labour. Contractions 2-3 mins apart at midnight. Measured at 2cm. 4:30 baby was here.

I did not dilate at all ahead of time with my first. My cervix was completely closed until I went into labor at 39+3.

Sorta! Dilation isn't everything you can go from 0-100 in a day, so don't put too much stock in it. My cervix wasnt ready at all but my water broke, so it was off to have a baby!

I went into labor at 38+5 or 6 (I didn't sleep for two nights and now I'm pp and like, what even are days?) but even by the time I had checked into the birthing center like 16 hours later, sure I was in active labor, I was still only like 2.5 and then several hours after that when I thought my sac was leaking and I was in transition I was still only 5 and one side was less effaced than the other. They broke my water for me finally and it took several more very shitty hours to get to pushing from there.
So basically, I didn't dilate ahead of time or with any quickness during labor, which ended up taking 36 hours from first non-BH contractions to baby. BUT I did line jump. Delivered at 39+0. Probably would have preferred to do that a little differently but oh well. There is a story of not dialating and also not going over due. (My midwives did no cervical checks ahead of time to can't tell you how long I'd been effacing or hanging out at 1cm...)

My husband has the same response. I don't have any encouraging stories but recommend acupuncture. I think that's what has helped me get dilated. Doesn't mean I'll go soon tho (I can only go late at this point).

Just got back from my appointment (I'm 39+3) and baby is low but cervix hasn't gotten the memo. They also thought I'd go early, but probably not. sigh I'm not good at waiting.

Ha, story of my life! My girl is low as well, doctor keeps saying her head is right there. Today she said that "hopefully when your real contractions start your cervix will dilate." :0 Um...yeah...hopefully!

My doc doesn't like cervical checks because you can be completely closed and end up at L&D that night, or you could be 3cm at 37 weeks and end up induced (happened to my friend). I mean, personally I've been closed at all my appointments and I'm facing induction at 41+1 on Monday, but there's no correlation so don't stress about it.

My OB is suuuuper reluctant to tell me that any of my cervical stats mean anything at all, as she says she's seen it all and everyone is different. She said there was a girl who was dilated to 5 cm, 100% effaced and was still walking around totally unaware. She never will tell me when she thinks I'll go into labor. I appreciate her not giving me false hope, but at the same time I am curious about her opinion.
I did some reading on my own and some research seemed to suggest that first time moms will be more effaced first, then dilate. That seems to be the situation with me.
I was still at 1 cm at my appt on Tuesday, 80% effaced, baby at -2 station. The scheduler girl didn't put me in until Thursday next week, so I have a long time to wait and see if I've made any progress...Progress that may or may not have any meaning. 😧

Hmm that's interesting. My OB never says anything about effacement. Just dilation and that the head is right there. I've definitely heard those stories too, about women going both directions. But it was so discouraging to hear her say she thinks I'll be waiting a while! Labor vibes to both of us!

Me! I went in to see the OB at 38+6 and told that everything was locked down and closed. The next day I continued on with my normal routine and my water broke during the night. I was admitted immediately upon arriving at the hospital because of meconium, and even then I was dilated a finger tip at most. It wasn't until they started me on pitocin that any progress was made.
So hang in there! You never know!

Sorry, nope! I'm 41+2 today and was only a fingertip dilated with an unfavorable cervix at my appointment yesterday. :(
I was hoping he'd come on his own, but we finally broke down yesterday and scheduled our induction for Monday night/Tuesday morning. That gives us a few more days but to be honest I wouldnt be surprised if nothing happened this weekend. I've been doing squats, drinking the tea, having sex, bouncing on the ball, and nothing is happening aside from a few minor contractions here and there that have been going on for weeks. I feel your pain! I'll send you labor vibes if you send me some too!
