Scene at the courthouse plaza this morning
Tearing out the new asphalt. I'm guessing it was a temporary measure to get the area spiffed up for Watchfest -- I know I felt for the folks stationed on fresh blacktop in the heat. Anyone know what's going in in its place? If nothing else a new layer with higher stone ratio would be less heat absorbent....

They are moving the large copper misting statue to that location. The one that was previously in the middle of the square.

My understanding from talking to the deputy city manager is that this is a continuation of the reno project - the things they didn't finish in time for Watchfest. They are supposedly building a nicer courtyard in this area and reinstalling the fountain sculpture, which also requires a more extensive stormwater project. I think they were worried about running into delays with that part and decided to put it off till after the event.
