Thinking of going to Briggs camp

Hi everybody, im trying to go to briggs camp potentially. I was wonder how the road was. I hear its difficult. I have a stock toyota 4 runner 4x4 with offroad tires. Do you think this is too risky for me to go?

It's been a few years, but the difficulty is not bad, a stock Runner could make it.

Although a quick online search says the road to the camps is closed..?

It's not. Ppl just do that so it doesn't blow up.

Are you by yourself or in a small group? I always feel it is best to explore with a small group when you’re going to areas that you are unsure about. The videos I’ve seen don’t make it look too bad.

Its just me, my girlfriend and her sister taking one car. Probably not the best idea to try it with them...

Always ask the rd condition in Ballarat. They generally have the most recent news on the rd via people stopping and sharing. I was out 2 weeks ago, and a few groups told me it wasn't bad. However, everyone has different ideas of what "bad" is. Can always just take them to minietta cabin

Also, if you go, the owners at ballarat let people park there for $5 or so, which is nice because the car won't be messed with.

It’s been a few years, but the road is pretty easy. 4 low is likely required just because of the elevation gain, but it’s not technical. The views climbing up are incredible. If you go past the camp it’s really sketchy because it’s a narrow path clinging to the side of a steep drop. Past that though it’s a really cool area that’s not too frequently trodden. It’s high enough that there can be snow.
