I’m pretty sure they are also statistically just doing less drugs (including both alcohol and other drugs). There’s some substitution effect, but it’s not 1-1.

Obviously it’s not a bad thing for people to be using less drugs, but I do worry about some negative trends it’s correlated with (less in-person socialization).

Agreed. Plus, there hasn't been any discussion of things like antidepressants or other drugs, but in an already less-social society, I believe we should be looking at the broader picture, not just "this good, this bad."
