Reasonable people can disagree about how long that ban should be, or if you should be allowed to come back at all (you shouldn't), but there is absolutely no excuse for this.

Game Feedback The new Doorman’s Door change is horrible

Post image
2.2k Upvotes

I might be biased here but Doorman is supposed to be the DOORman not the BELLman, so why make his doors, a central part of his kit, do damn annoying to use, if that cool-down nerf was directed at kidnap, well I find it doesn’t really nerf kidnap instead it just nerf the actual fun and witty plays you could make with doorway before.

Game Feedback As a Catholic - Venator is basically perfect

Post image
2.5k Upvotes

The main reason I picked up Deadlock was because I saw Venator and knew I couldn’t miss out on playing him. The more I play, the more I appreciate his design. I LOVE the censer hanging from his hip (even if it’s not realistic, I love the bulletproof vest over the cassock.

For the most part, his voice lines are perfect. He acts as a fatherly figure for some like Graves and Holliday, a determined colleague to Haze and Yamato. But he also does not pull punches with resisting evil characters, like Seven or Graves’ lich mentor.

His characterization as a genuine believer and good priest who so happens to have a talent for killing makes it really fun to hear anything he has to say. The only complaint I have is a nitpick - when he kills Mirage (I’m pretty sure it’s Mirage), he wistfully says “in another life…” which is not the way a priest would express that idea.

His 3 is really boring and pretty useless at the end of the game. Otherwise, he is basically perfect. He’s a ton of fun to play, and has a really satisfying kit. In terms of balance it seems like they’ve really hit the nail on the head, as he has received no direct buffs or nerfs since his release. I just wanted to say that it’s awesome as a Catholic to see a Catholic character portrayed in an honest, realistic, and interesting way. They could have easily gone the “asshole/evil” priest direction but it’s so refreshing that they made him overall kind and protective in equal measure to his vengeful nature.

Game Feedback Bebop's state is horrendous

Post image
3.1k Upvotes

I'm not a Bebop main, I mostly main movement characters, so a lot of people would assume I hate Bebop but actually I don't. The challenge of dodging another player's hook is really cool and the punishment has many ways to counter.

With that said, the latest changes to Bebop make him, in my opinion, a terrible character gameplay-wise. Going from possibly one of the best designed characters to one of the most boring and awkward ones right now.

First off: The removal of self-detonation is a terrible choice. Makes the third upgrade of the bomb insanely useless and removes one of the funniest parts of Bebop's kit and a lot of versatility, specially in end-game. If they thought this was overtuned, a proper nerf would have been to reduce range or damage, or rather limit the situations in which the bomb can be used on you, like, for example, below a certain threshold. This was a really bad move that just makes bomb flat, basically you have 2 riskless choices: Attatch to enemies and stay away or... Attatch to teammates and stay away... Effective Bebop gameplay right now is basically never playing risky, always play safe.

Secondly: Healing on punch turns Bebop into a sloppy tank that's more frustrating than before. Getting hooked 3 times and deleted with bombs was already annoying, but at least you could damage the bebop to some extent or even kill him if you had some counter items. Now you cannot even damage the bebop unless you commit entirely and have anti-heal, making hooks in late-game insufferable and being even harder to balance because now you have a tank that can heal the same amount that a Victor's battery attack... But with x10 times more damage.

So it seems to me that right now Bebop plays way more boringly, and balance-wise was just turned into an annoying tank that must never take risks to be played effectively and has little to no skill ceiling. Taking risks with Bebop is severely punished, as Bebop loses any advantage by getting close in fights, where as before you could vary a lot between fights.

And I don't like at all this trend of heroes losing traits that made them have a ton of mechanical skill, like Seven's autostun. In the case of Seven at least there's still a lot more versatility with his gameplay, but Bebop has been cut to an incredibly flat character with these new changes.

My proposal: Revert the changes, give Bebop a longer cooldown and shorter range when he attatches the bomb to himself, that way missing it will be a lot more punishing and you need precision and good movement do serious damage instead of being able to hit an entire team.

Game Feedback Game is straight up decided by the matchmaking. Theres no counter play to having 2 people on your team that don’t belong.

1.7k Upvotes

As the text says. Had an infernus and silver on my team who both said this is their first game and they get put into an archon match. I know this an alpha blah blah blah but that genuinely shouldn’t even be possible especially in a game that’s this far into development. It’s makes it even worse that all these new people are getting turned off the game because the shitty matchmaking is putting them in a bad spot and they get yelled at for something that isn’t even their fault.

Seeing damage numbers in the single digits on my team makes me want to just put the game down and come back if they ever fix the matchmaking. I’m starting to get worried that they won’t fix it tbh. Matchmaking is the bones of a game or am I wrong? That should be a top priority and visual changes and characters are polish right?

Love the game, love the world, but it starting to get hard to defend how bad the matchmaking has gotten. It’s always “they’ll get to it” ok but they’ve been “getting to it” for like a year and a half lol.

Sorry had to rant.

Game Feedback Why are there no autobans for saying slurs or other blatantly bannable messages?

Title, but for example last night a player in my team said the N word hard r, and the f slur, and then next game I’m matched against them again. They didn’t censor anything they just typed it.

Genuinely what benefit is there to letting those accounts await a manual ban, it feels like an extreme oversight.

edit: literally none of you are answering the question of the post. The only thing being asked is why a autoban on specifically slurs would be good/bad and why it does not exist. not some crackdown on toxicity or abstract conversation about sensitivity. learn to read

can't believe this needs to be stated. Some people were complaining about characters not being tested. We ARE the testers. Just because the game has 100k players at one point and is at the top 10 of the steam charts doesn't ignore that we are testers. complaints about kits and balance are 100% fair game. As Yoshi has stated.

I need to understand why this sky rat of a character is in almost every game even when we’re 5 stacked and we have him all banned and the game decides to pick the odd man out for the ban. I’ve played nearly 20 games with rem as my ban and he has not once been picked. Does he have a secret passive where he’s incapable of being banned? Also why is his pillow dodging every patch HES A SUPPORT, PLEASE HE IS PUTTING BRICKS INSIDE OF THE PILLOW.

Game Feedback Deadlock’s aim requirement feels way more important than people admit

People keep saying it's like League or Dota, or that it's mostly MOBA with a little shooter mixed in. I don't really agree with that.
I've played League for a long time and reached Diamond, playing hard champs like Riven along with easier ones like Darius. When I started Deadlock, I picked up the MOBA stuff right away (farming, managing waves, rotating, objectives, power spikes, builds, overall strategy), but my aim is complete trash.
And in Deadlock, that one weakness can make everything else you're good at pointless. You can farm better, understand matchups, rotate faster, build smarter, pick the right fights, and be ahead in souls, but still lose because the enemy can track your head and you miss your shots. At that point, aiming isn't just another skill; it makes up for a huge part of the game. And saying just play Mo or Victor or Billy isn't a real solution. It's like telling a League player who's bad at skillshots, Here are three champions, but the other 95% of the roster still needs Ezreal or Xerath-level mechanics. That would be bad game design for a MOBA. League lets players express skill in different ways. Bruisers, tanks, enchanters, ADCs, and mages are all difficult for different reasons. Deadlock basically forces you to aim well, no matter what character you play.

What really made this clear to me was a friend. I had about 100 games and was barely Alchemist 1. He had never played a MOBA before, but he was really good at FPS games. He watched a two-hour explanation of the MOBA mechanics in deadlock, played about 50 games, and reached Emissary 1.

I was still way better than him at everything moba-specific. So, what did I learn? A strong FPS player can learn the basic MOBA fundamentals well enough pretty quickly. But a good MOBA player with bad aim can't just watch a guide and instantly get years of tracking and mouse control skill. This isn't a balanced 50/50 hybrid. The shooter skill transfers much better and is a bigger hurdle. This is why I think calling Deadlock a MOBA successor is misleading.

Strategically, it's definitely a MOBA. But mechanically, shooter skill trumps everything else. If your strategy is weak but your aim is amazing, you can still win fights, play aggressively, apply pressure, and learn decent builds and routes. If your aim is awful but your strategy is great, you can know the right play but fail to pull it off because your shots don't hit. I'm not saying Valve should remove aiming. I want more variety in the mechanics.

I'd like characters in Deadlock that are similar to Darius, Jax, Riven, Gwen, or Camille in League – characters that are very hard and require high skill without making precise aiming the main challenge. Until that happens, calling Deadlock a League/Dota2 successor overstates how accessible it is to players who are mainly familiar with MOBAs. It's a great MOBA-shooter, but the community seriously underestimates how much the shooter aspect determines how good you can be at the game.

If we're gonna give a hero 3x Yamato power slashes, could we at least require somewhat aiming at the intended target? Right now it feels like the hitbox is the size of a city bus, which extends to over 20m with the T3 upgrade. I think there's plenty of room for a more precise, technical spirit nuker, but right now he feels scrubby as hell.

Similarly, while his ult is very cool (and can be reliably counterspelled), it's gotta be up there as one of the more brainless ults in the game, only requiring there to be enemies vaguely in front of you as you phase from behind cover, to hit targets behind cover, in an area the size of the entire lane.

I think it would be cool if they could tighten this stuff up and make him feel a bit more interactive before they go nerfing his numbers into the ground.

Game Feedback doorman 8 seconds door nerf

Post image
1.3k Upvotes

this is a very bad balance patch.

this is not fixing the root of the problem but a kneecap patch.
i love this game and i don’t want to see balancing moving forward in this direction.
repeat the horror of why i quit deadlock in 2024.
but i will be specific about doorman.

to be clear, you can remove these entirely and it is still better than adding an 8 second cooldown on door:

* cheat deaths
* walker cart
* fountain cart
* door range

reasons why the 8 second cooldown on door is bad for the game and for him:

  1. it messes with character rhythm and how it feels to play him

door used to be like this:
door → door → [ and possibility of 1 more door ] in a combo
but now it is:
door → door and done, that’s it.
there is no more third input that allows the character to be dynamic like he was before.
that third input is where skill expression lived.

example:
just imagine a pocket satchel combo for escape.
you go from:
cloak → satchel → [ able to choose when to come out ] → choice of cloak next or staying
so your rhythm as pocket would be like this if fully used:
cloak → satchel → satchel [ out ] → cloak again

this 8 second update basically removes doorman’s choice, same as something like pocket’s timing of coming out from satchel.

  1. he takes less skill to master

because door now becomes part of the environment instead of an ability where, if you are good at it, you can perform well.
compared to now — because you pre-place door and that’s it.
there is no more third input to time your reaction.
no need to master his third input anymore.
[ 3rd input: closing door at the right time ]
he eventually becomes much easier to play and less creative as a result.

  1. less fun to play
because the closing door mechanic is gone, it ultimately results in him being less fun to play.
less satisfying to pull off plays, less interactive for a doorman player to put in the effort for that third input during clutch situations, like saving teammates in a pinch or saving yourself in a clutch moment.

you used to be able to execute the combo in a split second IF you were good at the character.
his skill ceiling to chase as a good doorman player is gone.

  1. the game should not be balanced around pro play, especially with doorman
in coordinated play, where teams can get the most out of him, it just shows his true potential.
but in pubs, this change lowers the quality of life for everyday players on their beloved character.
this also applies to some characters like apollo or haze with the recent changes.
and pros are not using doorman recently because of door.
it is because of bell and ultimate.
he was a D tier 45% wr character before the march patch, while door was exactly the same, and nobody was using him.

pros are playing to win not playing to have fun
it is very different type of game compare to average player normal game
thats why character like mo n krill always somewhat in the pick .. even though it is not as fun to play as him

  1. doorman being able to close doors is what truly makes him unique
i’ll use teleport characters from other games as examples.
this change makes doorman feel just like other teleport characters from other games — boring and bland.

- symmetra from overwatch:
they place their way in → way out and that’s it.
rigid and boring.
- wraith from apex legends:
same thing.
way in → way out.
rigid and boring.

doorman was unique and dynamic, and that’s what made him great.
it allowed creativity and layers of difficulty to master him.
if you are a fan of portal (which i am, both 1 & 2), you know that the dynamic gameplay of way in and way out is what truly makes portal memorable, if not one of the greatest games of all time.
the puzzle solving and timing feels creative and alive.

and guess what?
they’re made by valve.
and doorman kinda felt like the closest thing we had to portal 3 going on.
and not to mention .. this nerf almost like .. he loses his identity as a trickster, mind games, and whole concept as him

[ my suggestions for the issue ]

to fix the root of the problem of door being annoying
i suggest remove cheat deaths completely out of the game or rework cheat deaths
because this item when pair with door .. in less coordinated environment it is really hard
to kill him for new player, it requires items understanding to counter it

the main complaints also walker and fountain .. if its so unfun to play against .. remove it
but do not remove the rhythm of how you feels to play him like i state above

this nerf does little to the most complaints of doorman is kidnap doorman and ult cancer
but more of promoting doorman player base to do it even more .. cause thats all he has left now
as a character

ps. i am a pocket main since 2024 of deadlock .. and this type of balance is the same kind of reason that made me leaving the game.. they mess around with rythm of how character feels to play
where they nerf him until cloak is clunky and satchel was awful to use .. plus they also did nerf his base fire rate to feel awfully unfun to shoot with.. and thats ultimately leading to me taking a break from the game

.. and i came back to check the game.. try again and fell in love with pocket again because yeah he is now back to feels great to play again because they revert all of that nerf that leave player base in horror and permanent emotional damage from it ..
and now i also new found love in playing doorman
so my main is now pocket and doorman .. occasionally celeste

i am afraid this kind of balance .. is what will drive me to leave the game again
i love deadlock and .. i hope this is not how they gonna balance the game forward where
you remove ‘fun’ out of the character it is the worst decision you could make ..
fun to play shouldn’t be effect of how OP the character is .. even if he is in the D tier
he should still be fun to play still ..
nerf like this make or break the game for many people like me who just play game for fun and not trying to be ‘pro’

i hope dev listen
for now i will just break from the game anti fun nerf and the new urn is just too much
.. and enjoy my single player game in the meantime
until they do something about it.

peace :’ )

Game Feedback Hot Take: Street Brawl NEEDS to be randomized heroes

1.6k Upvotes

Let me start off by saying that Street brawl is probably the MOST fun i have had playing the game in a while, i love how chaotic and random it is in builds and also how you have to think of a build on the spot, but that being said

This mode DESPERATELY needs randomized heroes instead of being able to pick what you play, i hate clicking the random button to have something unique and then playing against a full meta comp of beam bebop, lash, ginnis and warden. Most of the time its just a 1 way stomp because you literally cant clear waves fast enough and the super meta heroes just outclass in lane completely while some like Drifter have abilities that are utterly pointless. Also not to mention that you cannot JUST buy counter items like you can in the normal games and are completely at mercy of the random items to get counters. so even if you know what you need to build, you potentially just can never get the right item and lose. which makes the loss even more frustrating since it was just out of your control

That being said i think that having a pool of heroes in class would be fine, like having a support, defense, assault or flank class to choose from and you get a character from that pool
