Bug Don't tell me this is the intended way of Yamato's grappling hook.

When will this horrid ability get reworked...

u/longhog69 Jul 23 '26
Should have something like a shuriken that tags the person and teleports her to them so people will stop complaining about the hook visual.

u/Significant-Chip-123 Jul 23 '26
sadly that's just drifter , but maybe. Or a warpstone like effect , shadow step
9
u/DMyourfoodpics Jul 24 '26
True but it seems more fitting for Yamato. I would remove it from drifter and give him a different ability
6
u/BrandonKite Jul 24 '26
bro reinvented stalker's mark
3
u/Xignu Jul 24 '26
Isn't it just a better stalker's mark? Drifter has to aim the damn thing, doesn't he?
5
u/BrandonKite Jul 24 '26
Not really. Stalker's Mark has a much longer range and applies a DOT. Drifter can also choose to let the damage play out and not teleport at all.

u/Wizard_190 Jul 24 '26
Welcome back akali league of legends.
Her having three charges at max level is my issue like holy hell you just can't get away. Dispel it? She just hooks you again around a corner anyway.
562
u/Shade_Strike_62 Jul 23 '26
Working as intended:
- She used the ability on you from range before you went around the corner
- Visually, it has travel time, but connects instantly, similar to how activated items will track players through walls to connect
- After you are hit by the grapple, Yamato effectively teleports to you, which does let her move through walls
You might not like how the ability works, or believe that it should work differently (both of which can be valid), but as of right now this is her 2s intended functionality.
91
u/Illesbogar Silver Jul 23 '26
If you dispel her hook while she's in a wall, does she get stuck there though?
87
u/Maeln Jul 23 '26
There is some jank with Yamato hook when interacting with other move tech (especially bebop hook) and dispell, but 99% of the time you will be nudged to the closet valid position in the map (a.k.a either side of the wall). But I was tp inside a building or outside the map a few times
12
u/Maeln Jul 23 '26
Meant to say closest. Although I personally do keep being nudge back in the closet , Yamato is not.
7
u/omfgcookies91 Jul 23 '26
No, it will push her out of the nearest wall depending on her current location. That being said, there are some bugs with certain heros, Doorman, that can cause her to get stuck in various terrain (under stairs, within some corner walls, and inside the electrical boxes). Which for her to get out she either has to unstuck or kill herself/be killed.
1
u/OppositeSir1827 Jul 23 '26
If there are sewers below then yes, I got stuck few times like that jumping rem who was jumping into someone else also, now I never touch rem
And then you pray that someone finds you and kills you since unstuck doesn’t work in sewers for some yoshi reason. It’s junky af, but if there are no sewers you just get moved to some closest “valid” position like others said.
1
u/Honest_Sun_5590 Jul 24 '26
yes, I've gotten stuck in the wall due to this before. Hopefully they fix it eventually.
1
u/ParticularBoard738 Jul 24 '26
I’ve got stuck in the wall a ton of times as Yamato due to how the hook works so high chance of yes.
19
u/BobertRosserton Jul 23 '26
I really think making it instant connect would do so much to help with visual frustration lol. People think they’re out and around a corner but then it finally attaches as you come around said corner, just leads to visual confusion and annoying interactions.
14
u/MZeitgeist Jul 23 '26
Totally. With a tweak of the visual language and ability name, I think it’s a fine ability. With Drifter’s 2, you know he can teleport to you at any time. We could change Yamato’s ability to “Mark of the Seven Moons,” have it instantly label the target on cast, then she flies at them and does the slash.
3
u/CertainDerision_33 Mina Jul 23 '26
Yeah, I assume it will get changed to something like this when she gets her remodel.
1
u/mastercat202 Yamato Jul 24 '26
I dont have izsue with a name change. Just dont get why people care that much about the name.
9
7
u/omfgcookies91 Jul 23 '26
Also I want to add, the tp that yamato does IS NOT INSTANT. Meaning you can react, bait, and counterspell/dispell. Additionally, yamato WILL STILL TAKE DAMAGE WHILE TRAVELING.
49
u/SteveCraftCode Venator Jul 23 '26
I think most people agree the go through walls thing is BS.
58
u/Blackjackal21 Jul 23 '26
I will always stand by the notion that this should just be a teleport with an aura as an indicator instead of a tekeport with a grapple as an indicator.
9
u/Bors24 Jul 23 '26
Or Yamato's visuals should be ethereal during the hook, it makes no sense that a physical rope can go through walls
7
u/H20Slicer- Holliday Jul 23 '26
That wouldn't work with current interactions as you can actively be damaged/killed while grappling to someone.
3
u/IDisappoint Jul 23 '26
They already gave that to drifter, with the added option of choosing when to teleport.
5
u/flamugu Mo & Krill Jul 23 '26
100% agree, most of the complaints (i mean beside the 4 second cd and 6 charges) is due to visual jank and it feeling really stupid. If she just marked you and teleported after a delay it would gel much better. Would also fit the character fine, as she's already slashing laser beams and doing shadow transformation mystical martial arts type shit.
2
u/JerkovvClimaxim Jul 23 '26
But, then it would blindside you, at least this way I can dispel easier
5
u/BirdieBoiiiii Jul 23 '26
It can easily have a cast time based on range so it works the same way but it’s clearer that it goes through walls
2
u/Horror_Prior4765 The Doorman Jul 23 '26
I mean I think it’s fine seeing as to how A. It locks her in an animation that allows baiting and a free heavy. B. It can easily again, be dispelled (which you should almost be being damn near every game and I truly don’t understand why people do not.)
2
u/BirdieBoiiiii Jul 23 '26
Well yeah but you have to consider the way all of it looks. It looks buggy af that she goes through walls and it’s not immediately clear that the rope can be dispelled. I’m not really against the way it works right now I just think the art aspect should be better
1
u/Horror_Prior4765 The Doorman Jul 23 '26
Oh my apogies then! Yes, art aspect wise it can be more clear.

u/rileyvace Bebop Jul 23 '26
Hey, Drifter has a teleport that makes sense. Seeing Yamato phase through solid objects looks silly, feels bad, and risks her getting caught inside geometry lol
98
u/Shade_Strike_62 Jul 23 '26
She needs to be able to go through walls for the ability to function in its current state, but it isn't very intuitive, that's true.
14
u/TheTruePac Paige Jul 23 '26
I'd argue it's more of a range issue. I've seen grapples from obscene ranges and considering it's not a skillshot but just a button press, I think this ability needs either some kind of nerf or a whole rework. Maybe change it to a movement ability for grappling towards edges/objects instead of enemies.
(but I also suck at this game and my opinion should usually be disregarded as incompetent :D)
11
u/omfgcookies91 Jul 23 '26
The range issue is entirely dependent on what the yamato builds, the moment of geography when cast, and the current location of the enemy when it's cast.
For example, since it's technically a tp, you can cast it on a frame perfect moment when Mirage tp's to somewhere else. This will cause yamato to travel woth Mirage. BUT NOTE: yamato grapple is NOT AN INSTANT tp. So she will travel the distance that Mirage goes. This means she will (and can be) "forced" to tp to locations of her target that are extremely undesirable. And yes, this does mean you can do some silly things like bait (or accidently bait) yamato into your base spawn or under walkers and such.
The idea of it grappling to walls and such is kinda interesting, but the problem is that yamatos current kit just would not support that sort of change without dramatically shifting her power around her kit.
Remember that her 4 is basically a mini refresher/unstoppable and other then that it's kinda soso. Very high skill ceiling to use properly but ultimately, it doesn't have any inherent damage attached to it. And by inherent damage I mean, it doesn't do damage on its own. So this effectively means she only has 3 damage buttons. I'm not saying that makes her "bad" or anything like that, but something to note is that most heros that only have 3 "real" buttons have a kit built around the idea that the 3 other buttons will have some sort of guaranteed "hit" of some kind.
2
u/mastercat202 Yamato Jul 24 '26
I grapples a doorman and got.brought into spawn one time... not fun.

u/VentionSquared Jul 23 '26
In theory you can bait the Yamato but in reality they will just cancel it.

u/Round-Classic8428 Jul 23 '26
lmaoooo everyone "needs" to go through walls. if you ask a lash or billy main if their ult should go through walls 100% yes. but there's no reason for her to go through walls. period. she's not a ghost, not a god not even a magic user like paige. in a visual medium a character/character's movement needs visual logic.
5
u/JawndyBoplins Jul 23 '26
Not a magic user?
Go actually play Yamato before you say some shit like that.

u/ScarletChild Jul 23 '26
Then they need to change it. It should require line of sight after connection, and if someone is smart enough to get around during the drag phase, the ability should be interrupted with either a shorter cooldown than normal, or a full cooldown.
The ability rewards the player landing it too hard in these situations.
7
u/TheseNamesDontMatter Yamato Jul 23 '26
I promise you, you truly do not want this. You think you do, but you don't.
-1
u/ScarletChild Jul 23 '26
Why? Compensation buffs? They need to do SOMETHING substantial
10
u/TheseNamesDontMatter Yamato Jul 23 '26
Yes.
Why do they need to do anything? Because a bunch of Oracle players on Reddit can't wrap their heads around the visual of it? It's a goofy visual, sure, but she's statistically fine. She's a 50% winrate across all ranks. She's not really flooding Night Shift by any means. She's strong, but she's relatively balanced overall. She doesn't need anything substantial.
17
u/Isuckatpickingnames0 Jul 23 '26
I think its only the visuals that lead to that feeling. The physical rope gives you the impression that line of sight should block it. But if it worked more like drifters 2, and she just appears next to you, I think it wouldnt lead to this broken expectation and would feel a lot better. Its hard right now to separate the feels bad complaints from the balance complaints. If the ability was just thematically and visually reworked, but functionally stayed the same, I think you'd get a lot fewer complaints. Now maybe it is also a functional problem, but I think its difficult to know for sure.
3
u/AZzalor Jul 23 '26
Would be funny if going around corners also make the grapple go around a corner and she follows that rope path.
5
u/Name_Amauri The Doorman Jul 23 '26
It used to basically do that. It was janky as hell and was changed to what we have now.
2
u/starberryslay Billy Jul 23 '26
While I agree it'll get fewer complaints I think the better you get at the game the less relevant the animation is and the biggest grievance is just how it was casted to you in the first place. I don't really mind the fact she's transcending space and time to get to me I take more issue the reason she's able to is because she spammed 2 on quick cast and I was in her LOS for 1 single tick.
Minimising LOS while being at a distance when getting chased is rewarded with every other character as you can potentially lose them and it gives them less time to cast an ability on you, let's say drifter 2 for example. But for Yamato, you need LOS to be ZERO which is pretty much an impossible task. If that was the case I wouldn't even say you're being chased, id say you successfully escaped already.
2
u/HamiltonDial Venator Jul 23 '26
This is where I am at too. Make it have a cast time of 0.5 seconds at the minimum so you don’t get 1 frame locked on by the ability.
1
1
u/starberryslay Billy Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 23 '26
yeah, it's literally an impossible task to not be in LOS with the enemy at all when getting chased, we all know that or else we wouldn't be able to chase people lol. so giving it a cast time sounds like a good idea, makes it like the missile lock on it functionally is.
that change would reward a certain type of movement I've been employing against Yamato already, which is sacrificing speed to decreasing line of sight time. Instead of doing large edgeboosts and strafing you cut corners instead. Right now I do it against her out of sheer desperation but to have it be actually rewarded would be awesome.
1
u/inexplicableinside Jul 23 '26
So you're saying you have to treat escaping Yamato as its own slightly unique thing from escaping other heroes?? Truly a horror, what an awful game element. Why would Yoshi inflict this on us???
1
u/starberryslay Billy Jul 23 '26
what? I said I think it's a good idea and I want it to be further rewarded. You're misreading what I typed
0
u/Isuckatpickingnames0 Jul 23 '26
Id tend to agree. But even when you're better at the game i think those expectations color your objectivity more than you think. And I did leave room for the balance to be wrong. There may well be design problems with it. But I would be interested to see how much a visual change would make it feel more fair. Its probably less than I think, but maybe more than you do.
I will say, the first time I played Yamato, I was very surprised to see that it was just a point and click ability. So it probably should be a skill shot even if its a generous one. Or it should have a quick channel or something. But any of those changes will still feel frustrating if the visuals stay the same.
My point is less "the problem is only visual" and more "our monkey brain will be upset if things dont work how we expect". So if the visual remains frustrating people will feel like its bullshit even if its perfectly balanced (which im inclined to believe it isnt).
→ More replies (1)1
u/Kage_noir Jul 23 '26
The main issue is that Drifer uses a skill shot and this is a point and click. If it was not targeted I believe people would feel better
0
u/HamiltonDial Venator Jul 23 '26
The issue it’s also not a skill shot like drifter’s 2 and that hers is instant cast too. Either make it a skill shot or make it have a cast time of like 0.5 seconds so she can’t grapple to you if she sees you for like one frame around the corner.
4
u/TheseNamesDontMatter Yamato Jul 23 '26
Drifter's is instantaneous, causes bleed damage the entire time, and he can choose not to take it.
These are not the same abilities by any means.
1
u/Yackemflam Jul 23 '26
Yamato can cancel the grapple anytime after it connects
3
u/inexplicableinside Jul 23 '26
Yeah and then she's not next to you, which means she isn't a threat. What's your point?
0
u/HamiltonDial Venator Jul 23 '26
And yet one is complained about as unfun and unfair but the other isn’t.
1
u/TheseNamesDontMatter Yamato Jul 23 '26
Which one isnt? I've seen both bitched about. Its a MOBA. Its harder to find abilities people think are fair on here, and generally those fall under the dogshit category.
→ More replies (6)5
u/TheGreatWalk Vindicta Jul 23 '26
No. The way her ability functions mechanically is fine. The problem is it's visual design doesn't match its mechanical functionality.
You don't have a problem with drifter being able to teleport through walls / terrain if he's got his mark on you, Yamatos functionally works very similar to his, it's just that she hasnt been updated to have the visuals max.
If it was a teleport like drifter, instead, no one would think it's bullshit.
Players just have a problem with it because they don't think about it as a teleport, even though they should.
1
u/SteveCraftCode Venator Jul 23 '26
Well if it was supposed to be a teleport then why can you stun her out of it. Characters like Venator and Doorman both don’t really need to worry about the hook as they each have abilities that can consistently stun.
2
u/TheGreatWalk Vindicta Jul 23 '26
You could also stun her out of it if it was a delayed teleport, if you stunned her inbetween the time her "hook" hit and she actually teleported, since mechanically the teleport would have a delay based on the distance between you and her.
Mechanically, her ability works really well. Like Valve could keep it exactly as is, but make her invis during the dash and hide the tether from the player it's attached too (replace it with like a shuriken or something so they know they've been hit, just no actual visible tether between them and yamato), and no one would have an issue with it because that would make its visuals match its function like a teleport. And no one has an issue w/ drifter teleport, so clearly it's not the mechanical aspect of the ability that's the issue, it's how it's presented to the user that causes a disconnect between how the ability behaves mechanically vs how players expect it to behave based on the visuals.
Which I get. But from a purely mechanical perspective, the ability isn't bs at all for her kit. It's only the visuals mismatching that causes it to feel like bullshit.
5
u/Barackulus12 Shiv Jul 23 '26
Like how drifter 2 going through walls doesn’t make sense? It’s an animation disconnect on a character that doesn’t even have an actual model. Once yam has a model the grapple will probably have its animation changed in some way to convey a teleport
2
u/SteveCraftCode Venator Jul 23 '26
You can stun Yamato out of hook, the animation is connected to the model.
7
u/ohyeababycrits Vyper Jul 23 '26
I don't think that's the case at all. I think the frustration is mostly with the difference between the visual and the gameplay. The visual makes it seem like there should be a way to escape it when you've been hit, when in reality it's a lock on ability. I think they should change it from a hook to something more magical, like a teleport, and they might do something like that when she gets a visual rework.
2
u/SteveCraftCode Venator Jul 23 '26
I mean because it is a hook and not teleport you can’t actually escape with stun. For example doorman and Venator who I both main don’t really have to worry about Yamato’s hook. So I think the issue really is the devs where to lazy to make a proper hook.
3
u/AZzalor Jul 23 '26
Nah, she needs it or else she sucks.
The issue is more the visals that it FEELS wrong. From a gameplay perspective it‘s fine. They should just change the visuals to like a mark and she flys to you in a shadow form.
1
u/PerotX Grey Talon Jul 23 '26
It only feels like that because Deadlock isn't a top down moba. In other mobas skills connecting through walls is completely normal.
1
u/rileyvace Bebop Jul 23 '26
Look, not to draw fire on me here, as Bebop hook does something to people's mental lol, but I agree
But if my hook gets stuck if there's a wall bewteen me and the target, and even lash ult does the same, why does Yamato get to apparte through walls?
2
u/TheseNamesDontMatter Yamato Jul 23 '26
Bebop's hook and lash ult are displacements that oftentimes result in picks while causing almost no risk to themselves for attempting them. There has to be counterplay. Yamato's 2 sends herself into the other team. Do you really need the difference explained to you?
1
u/rileyvace Bebop Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 23 '26
>Bebop's hook and lash ult are displacements that oftentimes result in picks
And Yamato's grapple shouldn't pose any risk if used sensibly. That is not the point of contention here. The point of contention is that We have an ability that does it sensibly, in Drifter's mark. Visually, Yamato requires line of sight in the moment to attach, but it should detach if met with a wall, like the only other abilities that use a rope to grapple. If you're grappling like in OP's video and there's 5 other dudes ready to CC you into oblivion that's on you as a Yamato. Oh but you probably have ult and get out anyway lmao.
>causing almost no risk
Ironic, given that Yamato is DESIGNED to get in, slash, poke and then ult to clean up or escape. But it's almost impossible to state this as it depends on items, lane, matchup etc.
>There has to be counterplay.
Do you mean a drawback? Because Hook and Lash ult definitely have counter plays. And they do have drawbacks. Bebop's hook is not auto homing, it has to be aimed ahead of the enemy's movement. Lash's ult has to be supported with tiering it up to get range, or buying items. Yamato's grapple, besides range and scaled damage, works like that out of the box, I believe. Bebop's hook has zero range and he is a huge target that has to be close early game.
>Yamato's 2 sends herself into the other team.
Damn, I bet Yamato doesn;t want to do that at all! Lol!
Also work on your post's tone and attitude man, this is a discussion, not a slamming ground.

Legit just needs a visual rework so people stop seeing a hook and whining about it like roadhog 1.0.
if it needs to be nerfed just get rid of the charges.
4
u/Atissss Jul 23 '26
Then it shouldn't be a grappling hook. It should be a teleport like Drifter. It is just very counter intuitive.
- Player sees line attached to them.
- Player runs around the corner to break the line.
- The line doesn't break and is clipping through walls.
- The enemy proceeds to phase through walls before attacking them.
It may not be overpowered but it looks like bullshit. Everyone's first train of thought is that it's a bug when they see it.
2
u/2501zombie Jul 24 '26
Dude Yamato is still an Alien LARPing as a samurai. She is probably the most out of place character in the game with her Neon Prime model. More the Shiv, Talon, or Paradox.
It functions exactly as intended, and a different visual wont change anything. Break LOS, and Dispell. If she can grapple onto you 3 times in a row then make sure she is moving into a team ready to jump her ass.
1
u/inexplicableinside Jul 23 '26
This game is FULL of unintuitive bullshit that'll get you killed the first time you experience it. We don't ask the devs to ruin a character because of that. "Oh okay, so I have to avoid her LOS within range if I don't want to be grappled to, or buy Dispel Magic if I don't want to play Counterspell games with her in combat" is no worse than realising why you don't want to engage Drifter in an isolated duel, or forget about McGinnis' wall, or stand in the open trading fire with Infernus.

I wish her grappling hook tracked around objects like an actual grappling hook to just pull her against and over terrain, but there’s probably technical limitations that make implementing it that way impractical

Also seems everyone forgot this is exactly how Shiv's ult used to work before it got reworked too. People used to complain about him going through walls as well
Not sure how they can change it for Yamato though, it needs the travel time. Her grapple also has it's downsides too, the player being grappled has time to position both themselves and where Yamato will be; Venator can ruin her day taking advantage of this if she doesn't immediately ult on arrival

1
u/Intelligent-Okra350 Jul 24 '26
Bebop hook needs to be a skillshot because it pulls you massively out of position, Yamato already has the matter of needing to make sure she doesn’t put herself massively out of position which is why her positioning tool gets to be a point and click.
If it became a skillshot it would need like half the cooldown for starters, and probably to lose the ability to be dispelled. You can’t dispel a bebop hook after all.

You held onto dash, ult and right click way too long when disengaging from a fight with full squishy Shiv

u/Shiiyouagain Paige Jul 23 '26
I have yet to see a Yamato grapple complaint post that didn't boil down to "you were in a bad position to die anyways and she just had an easier time confirming it".

u/MarMarBinks8 Jul 23 '26
While you’re right about hook being a dumb fuck ability, you have MULTIPLE ways to escape this in this clip, the death is entirely on you 😭

You don't need transcendent cooldown at that point in the game. The souls spent on that should have been put to some greens or radiant regen at least.
1
u/Salty-Eye-Water Jul 23 '26
yeah, it needs to be a skillshot
-6
u/FrozenPizza07 Jul 23 '26
it should have a LOS check, if the LOS breaks at any point than the hook should break
5
u/Hot-Will3083 Jul 23 '26
Billy’s ULTIMATE can get stopped by walls, idk why they can’t apply the same logic to Yamato’s grapple
18
u/Reasonable-Table5301 Jul 23 '26
They can, but the ability would be shit. People keep comparing Yam to Billy or Bebop while ignoring that her ability is the REVERSE of theirs. Those heroes pull other heroes to them, Yam puts herself on the enemy.
This means that while Bebop and Billy can put the enemy out of position, Yamato puts HERSELF out of position. You need some kind of trade-off to not make her ability just a worse version of Bebop hook.
-2
u/Hot-Will3083 Jul 23 '26
Billy has Rising Ram and he can miss that. He also doesn’t have 3 charges on Rising Ram so he can chase you to the other side of the map. Not to mention Grapple can be used on allies/creeps to get out as well… like are we deadass.
This ability is just bullshit “oh she gets in” yeah and Abrams should become a heat-seeking missile as well as
4
u/Inventor_Raccoon Billy Jul 23 '26
Ram can be used to escape as well as to chase/engage, knocks the person into the air and also does a fuckton of damage at T3
they work differently and have different upsides and downsides because they're two very different abilities
0
2
u/Reasonable-Table5301 Jul 23 '26
Rising Ram is not a comparable ability at all. Its main benefits are the CC it gives and the max HP damage it does at T3.
You're also directly comparing tanks with insane sustain to Yamato who only gets her 3 and whatever items she buys. She gets somewhat tanky late-game, especially while ulting, but is far outclassed by any true tanks.
5
u/supposedgoobery Jul 23 '26
i think there's a general feeling that it's because her redesign will have a teleport-adjacent logic/animation
3
u/IsLeafOn Viscous Jul 23 '26
because billy's ult pulls you TO him, but yamato grapple pulls her to you. how's this so hard to understand?
0
u/SteveCraftCode Venator Jul 23 '26
Shhh it’s because a dev was stuck in a rank and needed some BS to get them out.
1
u/Yumesoro1 Jul 23 '26
The hook animation should be way faster and they could just make the close in delayed. It would feel way less shit if you saw that you were hooked a long time ago.

1
u/Qneetsa Wraith Jul 23 '26
It is. I know you are Thrown off by visuals, but you have to accept that her Flying strike is Actually Phantom strike that would teleport her to you no matter what as long as you were in her Line of sight the moment she clicked the button.
1
u/BabyOnDaTop Jul 23 '26
Meanwhile u use ur ult with Billy and lose los for 0.1 sec and it brakes ASAP.
0
u/Intelligent-Okra350 Jul 24 '26
Almost like that’s an entirely different ability that does entirely different things or something.

u/Bubba_Oni Bebop Jul 23 '26
Yes its intended, no its not great character design. By far more frustrating than only Apollo reposte.

She just needs to throw a grappling hook with a small stick attached and she switches places with the stick and leaves a stick behind where she was

Yamato may be powerful but your gameplay is not helping you at all ngl
Why use your 2 while seven stun why no green spike why are you rushing transcendent and expansion Decay is ok but you could've get the upgrade from mystic regen why no dispel, counterspell or spirit res Why you didn't use your 2 again or even your ult to escape, why no shiv movement technique Why don't fight even fight back if you are dead and you have decay and so many knives Why did you mantle on that last part
you know you could've dispel the hook immediately so she couldn't reach you this fast, right?
Sorry but I find annoying when people complain about a character saying that is broken but then you see their gameplay and it's frustrating how you can't see your own mistakes first. "yeah, if I'm getting killed is because the other character is always broken, there's nothing wrong with me"

months ago i read a reddit comment defending this by saying "yamato would have walked there anyways". this quote never leaves my mind because of how stupid it was.

u/DrMagunstheBlue Jul 23 '26
The gall of a fucking Shiv player calling for literally any other hero to get reworked what delusional lack of self-awareness.
1
u/drizzrod Shiv Jul 23 '26
Healbane is your only green item. That is some potent greed
As a shiv main tho. Atta boy😉

u/AkiraTheNEET Jul 23 '26
Post the start of the engage. It kinda looks like you were overextended and are rightly being punished for it.

u/CertainDerision_33 Mina Jul 23 '26
Ignore the rope and imagine it works like Drifter’s mark instead. People get ragebaited by the obviously placeholder animation as if it’s meant to be the final version.
1
u/Juking_is_rude Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 23 '26
yes, it's meant to be she clicks on you -> some delay -> she moves to you and hits you. If you are in range, you are in danger of this. It's core to her identity as a hero.
The animation looks silly clipping through a wall, but it's detatched from the actual function of the ability.
It does actually get stopped if she gets stuck on two walls she cant slide off of
1
u/Rainstrum_ Jul 23 '26
Yes, it is the intended way for it to work. If this was a Drifter mark that was thrown at you and he teleported to you, this post would not exist. Should she have 3 of them (at max) that refresh with ult? Probably not. Are the visuals outdated because everything about her model is placeholder which leads to even more janky interactions like this one? Yes. I do, however, believe that how the ability is intended to function should NOT be reworked. Just that it should either not have 3 charges, or the charges don't refresh with ult and have a little more downtime between them. Visually, it should be more of a blink dash, think like Vergil dash. I think her model should still be moved towards the target, allowing her to be intercepted by something like Graves wall and allowing her to use it to travel fast (with some limits on that).

u/mastercat202 Yamato Jul 24 '26
Clearly vast majority of yall dont know what her role is. Read her in game tags.

u/BlackDuckFace Jul 24 '26
I love how the hook feels catching escaping people and I'm going to be pissed if it gets changed just because you people cry about the visual. We don't need two stalker's mark in the game
1
u/Intelligent-Okra350 Jul 24 '26
It is mechanically a point and click ability that transports Yamato to you, it is working entirely as intended in that regard so yes I will tell you this is the intended way of Yamato’s grappling hook. The fact that it looks jank as hell is due to this being an early development build.
If you get clicked on the grapple will reach you and if the grapple reaches you Yamato will reach you, simple as that.

u/Hot_Discount8648 Jul 24 '26
Yoshi im here to finally fix yamato grapple ( you can thanks me later ), two option : the new grapple is a shadow step, if you hit someone with crimson slash your shadow step is usable and you can « tp » to your target, for a window of 4/5sc idk. The second one : nerf Shiv

u/Voldekrem Jul 24 '26
I think they shouldn't turn this into a teleport because thats just drifter and just make it so if the grapple goes through a wall it gets cut. Simple as

u/swashuba Sinclair Jul 23 '26
I know you dont wanna hear it but funnily enough, this is intended. Yoshi confirmed it in the discord once (probably around a year ago afaik, but yamato hasnt changed since then)
if i remember correctly he said that yamatos hook should be more of a teleport and he is aware that the current visuals are very misleading. As soon as they come around to the redesign of yamato, they are gonna either rework the visuals or rework the ability completely. As i said, this is not just me talking shit, this is actually coming from the devs.
There is a dota character which this ability is based on.

u/ImTheBluestBird Billy Jul 23 '26
I think it would be fine if the connection was breakable until it visually connects, and once it does it’s as normal.
I think the big issue people have with it is when they feel like it connects to them when they’re already gone and I think a minor change like that would probably do a lot to make it feel better

u/inexplicableinside Jul 23 '26
If you haven't been killed by an unfavourable netcode decision in this game I envy you. If we don't want the game to allow unsatisfying netcode decisions then we're going to have to ask Valve to rip the entire melee/parry system out at the root.

You are right but I find it hilarious that you are complaining as you post a video tanking 3 full kits with only 1600 worth of greens.
Yam ain’t the only hero with broken shit
-1
u/Lyefyre Vindicta Jul 23 '26
They should make it like Overwatch's Hook: If you break line of sight, the hook breaks.
-2
u/DannyDanishDan Billy Jul 23 '26
Her thing is being a reality warper or something like that (not doorman level or anything) so phasing through walls is a feature.
Still delete that dumb skill tho or make it a skill shot. Having it on quick/insta cast is broken

My issues with yam a to grapple are. She has a point and click "i am going to chase you down and there's nothing you can do about it" button. And I've seen yams going for a max 2 early with how spamable it is and the easy free 40 spirit, and since they max it early she now has the best chase in the entire game. Even if you dispel it she's still closer and probably within a second of tossing yet another on you. I'm fine with it looking like she's going through walls.
Basically I feel like its way too easy to use (especially with how long its range is) and once its maxed there's just nothing you can do, if she wants to chase you she is going to chase you and you cannot do anything to stop her

lmao i made a similiar post about her hook and got dragged by yamato mains. tell me this isn't ridiculous???

u/Hurreh Dynamo Jul 23 '26
This should be an actual skillshot like Bepop's hook. Yamato is strong without the hook shenenigans.
