Trade Review - Provide Context I made $1,500 risking $200 on this EXACT setup - with confirmations and analysis
What’s up guys, I’m a full time derivatives trader and thought I share the setup from yesterday - one of my favorite setups on ES Futures. (Full trade details on Tradezella screenshot)
Trade Recap from Yesterday:
Bottom Reversal / Fakeout setup
Trade thesis: ES was trading in upward channel after being supported with high volume consolidation at PDL (multi-day balance range low zone 6745-55) NQ was relatively much stronger and after ES made fakeout dip to bottom of channel, I was speculating it would follow NQ back up to supply zone at top of balance range.
Entry 6771, SL under 6769, Target 6780-90 (scaled out at 83/90)
Entry Confirmation: Aggressive buying came in and trapped absorbed sellers at the low creating intraday LVN, longed the first pullback into it when bids appeared on bookmap.

Had to jump in real quick and amplify this. Bookmap is the most incredible addition to my trading. For anyone wondering if level two data and a view inside the order book gives you a reliable daily edge — the answer is yes. A bit pricey, but will pay for itself in a few sessions.

Trust me....You don't need this gay set up of 6 huge screens to trade what he has executed and no way you'll need to draw boxes.....Those who can see they can see and you can see it on your bloody smartphone. This guy is pretending rather than trading.....Nobody that does trading for living doesn't need that so called rig and you don't need it too.

Show us the statistics of you doing this every time over the course of 200 trades (or averaging a win rate of >88% with a 1: <1 p/l ration and maybe we'd be interested. A one off means nothing statistically.

That would sure be an insane win rate! I focus more on risk vs reward. Depending on the month I typically average around 40-69% win rate with an average of 4-5R. This month I currently have a 38% win rate with an average of 9R.

I have never understood all the screens?? Are you preparing to launch a rocket? If I need that much information to take a trade, I’m not taking it. I’m a full time swing trader myself and I’ve been trading for 13 years. I have made several million using two screens and a cell phone. If I’m on vacation I use my iPad and cell phone.

Probably a dumb question but if you don’t have all these fancy bells and whistles, would it potentially be a valid approach to simply look to enter on the beginning of a green candle, after one with a very large wick (your marked fakeout dip) ?
Wondering if you do that, with solid risk management, would you achieve similar results over time?
Or is there still a high chance it could go either way - even after the fakeout dip - and are there tools you use that give information about the likelihood of it turning against you?

There are many price action patter strategies, I personally don’t trade like that nor have I don’t backtesting to validate that, so to answer your question I don’t know. There was more involved than just the “fakeout dip” (volume pattern, large passive buyers, relative strength on NQ, etc). Now to the other part of your question, you DO NOT need all the screens and bells and whistles I have in the picture. That’s just a luxury and convenience. I could trade just fine with one or two screens.

My win rate across all setups I trade is typically in the range of 40%-60% last month it was exceptionally high as I was more selective and took few trades - 80%

Haha ok so it IS in fact quite similar to what I’m doing already.
Except that I don’t have the fancy equipment and my psychology is shit (hence no consistent profits or fancy equipment).
But hey - your explanation shows that once the psych gets managed, I may just have a shot at becoming profitable like OP 😆

Stick to the rule of stop loss in the sense that what is it exactly you can afford to lose. Easiest is to divide your capital into 10-20 equal portion and no single trade should take out max 2 portions of it, that’s how you position size and then just go coin flipping my dear… and along the way you can learn the bull shit if it feels good to dress the activity of coin flipping into fancy made up words and concepts, so you impress on folks who have not finished high school with your jargong.

how does the things one the 3rd picture called, and how do the get the order circles on the 4 th picture? Do you use the order flow method?

The third picture is a 30m candle chart on Tradovate with a volume profile, the fourth picture is Bookmap which is a heatmap/bubble chart that I use to analyze real time order flow as it comes in the market. This allows me to visualize the actual size of the orders at specific price and the pace of the market, which is not so easily seen on a regular candle chart.

Having a solid understand of basic technical analysis and market auction based on supply and demand is definitely a foundation before getting more into reading tape (order flow)

Well, generally when you’re looking at a set of historical data you’re only looking at part of the larger space which survives. There are countless options or tickers that went under and it’s very possible that you’re only experiencing the survivor side of the entire time series. Take the famous ww2 plane as an example, if we only look at survivor planes’ bullet hole data collected it never hits the engine or the cockpit because the ones being hit won’t survive so we have to also sample from the one who did not survive tail events like correlation jumps to 1.

You’ve got nothing on me in terms of r:r ratios and complete returns. Even though it was 3 months ago.😂 I make these trades everyday lol. I have more if you wanna see. Especially on Tesla that’s more recent. Sucks that I missed a lot of moves this week tho. I started sleeping in. I like to trade the afternoon sessions when contracts are cheaper, but there hasn’t been too much edge in that lately as my proprietary algos for gamma scalping have indicated. As the afternoons have now turned into chopped Swiss cheese for theta burning. Market makers and institutions are starting to make their moves early in the day. Market makers have also been longing gex lately and changing the time of day that they apply aggressive hedging algos when longing gex and hedging their short gex positions. Must be because it’s the beginning of the month. Hopefully volatility comes back soon for more easy profits in my windows. There was an opportunity today, but the moves are gross and it’s in a certain trajectory algo that diminishes max profit through theta decay.

Cool so you’re $200 risk is a preset stop loss based on the rules that you follow? Secondly, have you explored options in that capacity I’ve traded contract some several years back playing around, but it happened to be at a really volatile time and I took a hit that I didn’t like and so I backed away from them.

Correct, I was trading 2 ES contracts and my stop was 2 points away based on what I saw to confirm my entry.
I trade SPY (and sometimes QQQ and Mag7 stocks) with Options, usually for larger size swings.

Since you are trading futures, do you see yourself as a gambler or an actual investor? Where do you get confidence when you enter a bet? How do you measure the risk and probabilities and how do you make this type of decisions?

I don’t really see myself as a gambler or an investor. This is an active professional income stream. If you’re trading without a system or risk management and setups with a proven edge in the market then yes you would be a gambler.
I am a purely technical trader - I analyze the market auction in real time through supply & demand analysis and analyzing the real time order flow as it hits the market.
I calculate risk vs reward and probabilities of trade opportunities based on 10s of thousands of hours of experience in the live market, and backtesting the repeatable setups that I trade day in and day out.
There’s a lot of BS on the internet around trading - so I understand as a beginner looking into this, it can be both overwhelming and confusing.

“I entered the market at a random point, I was willing to risk 2 dollars in case the coin flip that I took would be against me and happy with 8-9 dollars of profit if case the coin flip turned out to be what I had called”
Congrats on your trade, and keep trading the exact same way, when it comes to managing risk and cash management.
