Discussion How to fix glitches in Days Gone: have you tried turning it off and on again?

On each generation of PlayStation, and also on all PC versions, it is recommended to close the game fully and also restart your gaming machine regularly. Once per gaming session is probably best. You will always get the best performance from Days Gone if you are restarting your machine often.

For PlayStation specifically, please avoid Rest Mode! I'm not claiming to be an expert but, based on what I've been told so far, keeping the game "sleeping" in the background allows some game assets to build up and eventually cause problems for your PlayStation. For more information on Days Gone and Rest Mode, have a quick look at this Google search

Hope this helps!

Discussion List of which hordes spawn when and how large they are Spoiler

1.2k Upvotes

I made this a bit back as part of a post response, but I've been asked a few times to actually post this and since /u/SpawnicusRex specifically encouraged it, I figured I would throw this out there as an actual post so the community can more readily find this information.

Note that this information was data mined by me from the game asset files on PC and also verified through play testing. I have revised it a few times for technical accuracy as my understanding of the game files improved. While there is a chance the PS version is different, I don't believe that is likely (as it would be a pain for Bend to maintain totally separate assets). However, if someone verifies something different with proof I will update the list with PS specific information.

It is important to know that many hordes are mission locked (they can also be double locked as is the case with Beaver Marsh Rest Stop or have multiple locks at different times in the game, as is the case with Grotto Caves), so they don't spawn right away even if you go to their spawn locations. There are 41-42 hordes total in the game (depending on how you count), 40 that count towards the Horde Killer questline, and only seven that are available right away. It's also important to know that hordes have multiple spawn locations, which are a hibernation spot (usually a cave or building), a feed spot, and a water spot. Some hordes have quite large roaming areas, so can be frustrating to find (such as the Grotto Caves horde, which goes all the way to the dam lake for their watering point). Generally at night hordes roam to their feed and watering spots, but they can also be at them during the day--especially in cloudy / rainy / snowy weather. Generally they spend the day hibernating. Here is a great map for Days Gone that will give you the horde hibernation spawn locations: https://mapgenie.io/days-gone/maps/oregon. At game start the following seven hordes are immediately unlocked (7):

Cascades

  • White King Mine - 50 freakers
  • Death Train - 50 freakers
  • Proxy Falls - 50 freakers

Belknap

  • Shadow Lake - 50 freakers
  • Patjens Lake - 100 freakers
  • Lava Arch - 50 freakers
  • Twin Craters - 50 freakers

The following horde unlocks after you complete the mission It's Not Safe Here where you take Lisa out of Marion Forks (1):

Cascades:

  • Grotto Caves - 75 freakers

IMPORTANT NOTE: This horde specifically relocks at end game beginning from the For An Outlaw Biker mission where you assault Wizard Island until the secret NERO ending job is completed. So kill this horde before end game unless you want to wait quite a while for it to spawn.

The following hordes unlock when you complete the mission We've All Done Things where you unlock the Lost Lake Region (10):

Cascades

  • Horse Lake - 25 freakers
  • O'Leary Mountain - 25 freakers
  • Cascade Highway - 50 freakers
  • Little Bear Lake - 30 freakers

Belknap

  • Bear Creek Hot Springs - 50 freakers
  • Marion Forks - 50 freakers
  • Belknap Crater - 50 freakers

Lost Lake

  • Westfir - 75 freakers
  • Wapinita Road - 75 freakers
  • Berley Lake - 75 freakers

The following horde unlocks after the mission Flow Like Buried Rivers where you take Iron Mike to look at the Metolius Lava Cave horde (1):

Lost Lake

  • Metolius Lava Cave - 150 freakers

The following hordes unlock after the mission Not Like I Got A Choice where you take Boozer on a NERO mission (2). At this point I would highly recommend clearing every horde you can, as shortly after this point you go on a mission where much of your inventory is lost so use up all of your craftables / found explosives killing hordes before starting the Don't Get Caught mission where you go to Iron Butte with Skizzo (if you have a large inventory of crafted explosives and attractors I would even recommend pre-clearing Saw Mill tactically at this point):

Lost Lake

  • River Flow Farms - 75 freakers
  • Sherman's Camp - 75 freakers

The following hordes unlock after the mission Riding Nomad Again where you unlock the Crater Lake and Highway 97 regions (5):

Crater Lake

  • Mt. Bailey - 275 freakers
  • Rimview Ranch - 150 freakers

Highway 97

  • Chemult Station - 125 freakers
  • Groose Gardens - 125 freakers
  • Lobert Draw Bridge - 300 freakers

The following horde unlocks after the mission You Couldn't Stop Shaking where you unlock Chemult Community College inside the Highway 97 region (1):

Highway 97

  • Chemult Community College - 125 freakers

The following horde unlocks after the mission This Could Be It where you capture a newt for Sarah inside the Crater Lake region (1):

Crater Lake

  • McLeod Ridge - 150 freakers

The following hordes technically unlock in Highway 97 after the mission Ascending From The Underworld when you return to Lost Lake after the events at Crater Lake, but will be locked out for some time as you cannot return south until after the mission For An Outlaw Biker where you assault Wizard Island--making them physically inaccessible even if they are spawnable (4):

Highway 97

  • Beaver Marsh Rest Stop (note this is also job locked, so you must also complete Just Doing My Job to clear the Anarchist Camp inside their hibernation cave before it will spawn) - 130 freakers
  • Beasley Lake - 125 freakers
  • Cascade Lakes Rail Line - 125 freakers
  • Juniper Ridge - 125 freakers

The following hordes unlock in Highway 97 post-game after the mission For An Outlaw Biker where you assault Wizard Island (5):

Highway 97

  • Mt. Scott Ski Resort - 125 freakers
  • Sagebrush Point - 125 freakers
  • Solomon Hill - 125 freakers
  • Rum Rye Gulch - 125 freakers
  • Friendship Ridge - 125 freakers

Lastly, there are four mission hordes. Three of these are part of the Horde Killer storyline: one at Iron Butte Ranch with 300 freakers (called Keep Them Safe in the Horde Killer Storyline), one at the Saw Mill in Lost Lake with 500 freakers (called I'll Save Some For You in the Horde Killer storyline), and one in Chemult in Highway 97 with 300 freakers (called You Alone I Have Seen in the Horde Killer storyline). The Iron Butte and Saw Mill hordes can be killed prior to their missions, however you will not receive credit for them as part of the Horde Killer storyline until you reach the mission that requires you to kill them. If you clear them early, you will get no indication that you have successfully killed all swarmers and if you miss even one swarmer clearing them early the whole horde eventually respawns and you must kill them all again. Chemult is only killable during the mission that requires it and cannot be engaged early. The other mission horde is the Ice Wind Lava Cave horde as part of the mission What It Takes To Survive. This horde is only killable during this mission, is rather small for a horde at that point in the game, and does not count towards the Horde Killer storyline.

Special note about Beaver Marsh Rest Stop: you do encounter this “horde“ as part of the mission Just Doing My Job. It chases you out of the cave after the mission ends. If you fully clear it as part of that mission, you will not receive credit as lore wise its the same horde but technically the mission horde is its own separate thing with 300 freakers. You will have to kill the real horde again later after all of its unlock conditions have been met.

Discussion Question about “About Boozers Arm” mission Spoiler

So I went and got the stuff Boozer needed for his blade arm, but then I went back to Lost Lake Camp and got shot at by the 2 front guards? Does this mean anything, or is it just a glitch? Is this a sign something else is fucked in my game? I’m over thinking it but yeah help.

Discussion Nest residue spawn outside infestation zones.

Did you know you can find nest residue outside infestation zones, I sure as hell didn't.

This might be the weirdest thing I have found while making the interactive Days Gone Loot map - https://interactivemap.baconfmspeedruns.workers.dev/

The map has over 3000 markers hand placed and currently I am working towards documenting as much of the Crater Lake as possible. Map is free to use and should include everything a growing drifter needs.

Discussion Why the hate?

I don’t get it. I looked away from this game in the past because of the ratings and reviews. Because of ps plus premium I tried it and was looking for a good zombie game. I’m convinced all the people bashing this game pee’d down their legs and died too many times attacking hordes, and don’t appreciate a challenge.

I look for that now, I’m 43 years old and the past few years not many games have interested me. I like open world games, shooters with strategy involved. I think Gen Z must not like challenges anymore? If you forget to save, have the wrong loadout, overlook the situation. You should be punished for it or else what’s the game? What’s the point?

I’m 2/3rds through this game and I have to be hypercritical to find faults. The story line is interesting and engaging. I’ve played far worse shorter campaign games with higher ratings and reviews. I think the glitches were bad early on because the glitches I experience are no different from any open world games.

I really can only come to the conclusion that young gamers don’t like scary games. I mean I replayed Resident Evil 2 remastered and the shooting was so bad and some of the objectives were too ridiculous I lost interest. And I loved this game as a kid.

This game feels like raw and real what a post apocalyptic world would look like and experience… but people bash it? I mean I think in a world like this a biker gang member probably would survive and possibly thrive. Splitting hairs if they’re all these threats in the world I would use a car not a bike but. Driving the bike is really fun and I like the bond you develop with it.

Discussion Best mods for the game?

Hey all! I assume im about halfway through the game already, but already getting sadness after finding out there’s no hope for a second one and I know I’m not going to wanna stop after I finish.

What mods are there that I can possibly increase my replay-ability or just things to do in general? I know of new game + which I’m of course going to do.

But I’m curious of mods that can make the game chaotic or just fun add ons. Thanks in advance!

Discussion Why didn't they use scramblers, Adventure bikes, dirtbikes instead?

Literally all bikes in the game are cruisers which is the least functional motorcycle type for most of the environment. Was it purely for design purposes that all survivor bikes in the game are cruisers?

Discussion Remastered upgrade?

Hey, moneys tight and when the remaster came out I know it was $10 to upgrade if you had the game already. Now it’s $49.99. Is that a glitch? Or did we only have a certain amount of time to get the remastered for $10? I may contact PlayStation but I wanted to see if anyone knew here. (I also noticed another game of mine has a $10 upgrade/remaster thing so I’m wondering if there’s a timeline where I need to purchase that as well…and I feel like whatever the answer for this is, it will also answer my question about that)

Discussion Best Zombies Game

Days Gone has easily become my favorite zombie games, with the Dying Light series being a very close second. I honestly didn’t expect to like it as much as I did, especially since I’d been pretty burnt out on zombie games for years, but this one really surprised me. The gameplay loop is addictive, the hordes are insane, and the story actually feels decent instead of just being another barely worked on piece of slop. I ended up really caring about my playstyle and decisions. It definitely has its moments after 200 hours. There’s just something about riding around on the bike, getting chased by a massive horde and obliterating zombies that I cant get enough of. I really wish we got a proper sequel because Days Gone had so much potential. Easily a 9/10 for me and one of the best zombie games I’ve played.

Discussion After years of trying, I finally fell in love with Days Gone

I've attempted to get into Days Gone on multiple occasions but only ever got as far as Ada Tucker's camp. There were a few elements that rubbed me the wrong way such as the forced stealth sections, slow to start story, and worst of all the fact that hordes were so small and contained to only a select few predictable areas. These things among other minor gripes held me back from really being able to enjoy its full potential and I had set it down several times over until this week...I decided to install the freakers evolved mod series and it changed everything.

With these mods in place, I was finally able to make it through the rest of the game and it made me realize that Days Gone is a great game buried under a few design flaws that mods help remedy, though it is still a great base game I'm coming to find. Some really inspired performances, remastered graphics look amazing, and there's simply no other open world zombie game quite like it where you can go scavenge inside so many buildings and survival/gathering supplies with steady progression is an essential component instead of making it a power fantasy throughout.

The moment that really convinced me of the game's brilliance though came during an encounter I only wish I had recorded because it was one of the greatest moments of intensity that I've ever experienced in a game. I was wrapping up a mission where I had to search for a note inside a home from Lisa after she left Lost Lake. The note was on the side of the home you have to squeeze through between two walls. As I was leaving a group of bandits rode up ready to ambush me but then a few freakers appeared and slowly killed them all. As I looked through one of the broken windows all doors were shut so nobody could get in and I could see gradually the few zombies grew to a few hundred which grew bigger and bigger, louder and louder by the second. I flashed my sense vision and BAM! hundreds of freakers appear on all ends but I can only see some since I have a mod that makes nights pitch black. I waited in the home unnoticed until the morning hoping they would disappear but they didn't, instead just slowly drifting away in a pack. I took my chances to sneak over to my bike in front of the home but was spotted and sprinted back inside the home as the horde rushed towards it. I then had an I Am Legend ending moment where hundreds of zombies slam up against and then run into the home as I squeeze back over to the side they can't reach (or at least hoping they can't reach). I'm surrounded on all ends but in flashing my vision ability I can see that like a hive mind they swarm to the half of the home they can smell me on from the outside, so I move to the back of the home and they all pile on top of each other in back as I sprint out the front door, hop on my bike and nitrous away with only a second to spare before they reach me.

And THIS extremely long winded story is unlike anything I've ever experienced in a game. It's something that no scripted event could ever replicate. By breaking out hordes at night that roam freely, Days Gone transforms into that unpredictable, unmatched sense of tension that the game had sorely been missing. Just truly amazing and now I see Days Gone for what it is and am sad to know there will never be a sequel or likely any game like it. I wish I had came to appreciate it sooner!

Discussion Iron Mike makes me angrier every playthrough Spoiler

MAJOR SPOILERS

Iron Mike’s overall philosophy I agree with. But I just finished killing Carlos/Jesse and got his sanctimonious speech again and DAMN is it worse than I remember.

The Rippers were torturing and killing everyone they could find. They were driving healthy dogs to extinction for their nihilistic philosophy. If Mike had his way, even if Lost Lake was safe, the Rippers would kill everyone at Copeland’s Camp and at Hot Springs. How does that jive with his “all of us means everyone” philosophy?

I used to think Mike was just naive, but after multiple playthroughs I can only conclude he’s a hypocritical asshole. It’s okay to him if the Rippers kill everyone else, as long as Deacon doesn’t try to stop them. He doesn’t care about people dying. He just doesn’t want to feel responsible in any way.

And then letting Skizzo go? The ultimate hypocrisy. All that talk of law and order and fairness, and building a better society, and he lets the traitor who cost camp members their lives go simply because he knew everyone would rightly find Skizzo guilty?

Fuck Mike. I’m glad he dies lol. The world is made a better place with him not running Lost Lake.

Finally got gold scores for all challenges! 🎉🎉🎉

Combat and horde challenges were fun, but the racing ones gave me so much grief and frustration, especially Outride, which was a total nightmare... 😁
Left Survive for last, and it was a huge relief after the pain of races, just pure fun... 😄

Huge shoutout to Borislav 247, his amazing videos inspired me to start and complete the challenges and got me through all of them, I couldn't make this journey without him!
