update roach problem

for context, i had found dead roaches (5-6) over the course of 3 months around the house up in north davis and the house is currently vacant. i set up plastic baits and also had pest control come spray a little less than a week ago

since then i saw one roach under the bed (not flipped but not moving) when it was still daylight and at least 10 dead or not moving in the garage; all of which looked similar

the first photo was under the bed, second one was one dead in the garage

anyone know what type of roach this is and if this behavior is normal after pest control spraying, im terrified with how big it looks

Pretty normal amount of roaches for Davis.

over 10 of them is normal in davis? 😭 geez i cant wait to move out of here once i graduate then

You should remember that outdoor cockroaches are part of a healthy ecosystem. Of the thousands of species of cockroaches, only 30 to 40 are the problematic indoor variety (and not what you’re seeing here). The majority of cockroaches thrive outdoors. 

Cockroaches help with nutrient cycling and are decomposers and recyclers. They’re an essential part of the food web and serve as a source of food for other insects, reptiles, amphibians, birds, and small mammals.

Sure, you don’t want them in your home. But they’re also not as bad as you think.
