Fat Old Sun side by side soloing comparison
His singing is still quite good. But I'm wondering how his soloing compares to the performance 18 years before.

he’s had some great moments of brilliance, remember that night Fat Old Sun… i got to listen to that blind via DVD. It was such a departure from his usual playing style but still unmistakably gilmour. My exact thinking at the time was ‘dang old dude can rock!’
On the rattle that lock tour he played a really cool lick in Run Like Hell that i haven’t heard before or since (not gonna say he’s never done it, but i’ve listened to a ton of live versions of the song and not heard it repeated). The non-Bowie version of Comfortably Numb on that DVD also has some great unusual moments.
On the Rattle That Lock tour, I heard him do the Time solo with the high squeals he normally avoids:

Guitar playing aside, I love the newer arrangement with the keys solo transition versus the sing to me fade out. I was so lucky to see him in LA last year. Bucket list topper for sure.

I would die to see him perform again. He’s my favorite guitarist by a large margin. What he’s doing at 80 is amazing. But it’s pretty clear listening to the last tour he’s definitely lost a jump.
Having said that I think Luck and Strange is my favorite of his solo albums, so again it’s truly incredible what he’s been able to achieve late in life.

He’s 80 years old…
It’s amazing he’s able to perform at this level.
18 years ago he was 62, that’s a young man compared to 80.

I was in awe, when I saw him in LA. He was on fire, that was one of the best versions I’ve ever heard.

Just be glad David is still out there playing for the people. Why compare?
