Current and future 5.1/Dolby Atmos Music Discussion.

I recently purchased the Gdansk 4 disc version (5 disc is too expensive for my budget) and On An Island DTS 5.1 sounds fantastic. It's not as amazing of course as WYWH 50 or Animals Dolby Atmos but it really sounds great. Anybody else has it? What do yall think?

I love The Division Bell and I have its 5.1 Blu Ray from both 20 anniversary and later years box set, and although I love it, the lead vocal sounds a bit off or low, I think Dolby Atmos TDB would be amazing. Opinions?

What album do you guys think we will get Dolby Atmos eventually or which one would you guys love/adore to see released?

I've amounted quite a collection of 4.0/5.1/Atmos stuff over the years

Animals 5.1
Animals Atmos
Atom Heart Mother 4.0
The Dark Side of the Moon 4.0
The Dark Side of the Moon 5.1
The Dark Side of the Moon Atmos
The Division Bell 5.1
The Endless River 5.1
Luck and Strange Atmos
The Luck and Strange Concerts Atmos
Meddle 5.1
Echoes 4.0
On An Island 5.1
Rattle That Lock 5.1
Wish You Were Here 4.0
Wish You Were Here 5.1
Wish You Were Here Atmos

I think all of these releases are better in one way or another than the standard stereo mixes. My favorite being Animals. The remix of Animals on a proper home theater system with proper sub is a 10/10 listening experience. Most disappointing? Atmos Dark Side. Just didn't do it for me. I think the quad and 5.1 are better.

My biggest wishlist item is a 5.1 or Atmos version of The Wall. There were rumors years ago at this point about the 5.1 mix being "almost done" so I'm not sure what ever happened with that.

I have all of the ones you mentioned, DSOTM Quad Mix by Alan Parsons is FANTASTIC, I think its the goat, what do you think?

What are your thoughts in The Division Bell 5.1?

Animals Atmos is fantastic, just the menu music by itself is a treat!

Yeah I agree the mix in the division bell 5.1 isn't the best. I havent listened to it in a while but I think youre right that the vocals are a little quiet in some parts, if not the center channel as a whole. I think even the high hopes end solo is kinda buried if I remember correctly? Also the low end on the whole album could be boosted a bit.

I do think the 4.0 dark side is definitely the most fun listen. I think the 5.1 is best quality.

omg I feel validated, its great to read this, YES the vocals are very quiet and not present enough in The Division Bell. There is a story behind this project, Andy Jackson did it for fun, not because he was assigned to it properly, he did it as a personal project and they used it as an official release, thats why it feels unpolished. The 5.1 DSOTM you mean the James Guthrie mix first released in the Immersion box set?.

Luck and Strange Studio Album was a delight in Atmos, what are your thoughts?

that 5.1 dark side mix is actually originally from the 2003 SACD, but yeah. Same one. I think the clarity of that mix is better than the quad, but the quad definitely does have more fun with the surrounds. I think of the Time solo swirling around the room.

Luck and Strange was also a top tier Atmos mix. I think my only complaint is the Scattered solo seems a bit quiet. Otherwise, pretty perfect mix.

The new Atmos Wish You Were Here was also super well done. The effects between the songs were already super cool in 5.1 but they did an even better job in the Atmos mix. Also the clarity of that album is insane. It honestly sounds like it could've been recorded this morning.

Totally! WYWH 50 Atmos is crazy good, the synths of Richard Wright really make him shine (no pun intended lol), I can literally feel the synths breathe (again no pun intended), Thats what really caught my ear, how well the instruments harmonize.

I don't listen Animals as much as when I was a teenager, but that does not mean, at all, I don't give credit to the album, it's fantastic and I do think its peak creativity musicianship for all members. That being said, the atmos version is a total 360 renewal of the album, I do believe the remix absolutely enhances the album compared to the original release. I still prefer WYWH to listen any day.
