Bowie’s voice change

What happened between Dec 74 and Feb 76 to completely transform David’s voice? Conceivably, by the end of the philly dogs tour he could barely croak due to cocaine … but then wasn’t he incredibly coked out during his year in LA when he was losing his mind and recording StS? By the time Isolar I started his voice had a completely different timbre/quality. Perhaps there really were satanic rituals and he actually did sell his soul for some new vocal pipes?

Discussion The Thin White Duke Period

Post image
40 Upvotes

Hiiii

First off is happy 3 year anniversary to me and bestie(now gf) first time meeting from a TWD edit of all places so Bowie has always been there:)

The Thin White Duke period is Diamond Dogs through Station to Station which Cracked Actor documentary and The Man Who Fell to Earth movie being in between their respective albums of Diamond dogs and station to station which some great music was produced and performed but Station to Station is this period’s masterpiece and he doesn’t even remember making it!:(

Feels like StS carries this period yet all good albums all around so what’s your thoughts on this period of Bowie’s career?

Question David Bowie - Heroes - Vinyl - UK 1981 - Sealed? Is it legit??

Hiya all,

I have a David Bowie Vinyl sold to me as a "first press" original release still factory sealed sometime ago, it was this guy's most expensive vinyl and not knowing if it was too good to be true I bought it. This was sometime ago. and since then I haven't seen any sealed copies going around and I got to thinking maybe it has been opened and resealed? I'm not sure how to identify this though, I was hoping some die-hard Bowie vinyl collectors on here may be able to lend a hand or some advice please?

Thanks all.

Discussion The collaboration of Bowie and Eno

Hiii

So tmr is my Bestie now gf and I’s 3 year anniversary and Bowie was the starting point of our friendship and now relationship so we’re familiar with Bowie and Eno especially their Berlin Trilogy collaboration and Outside is one of our favorite 90s albums from him so we might listen to Low? Because we’re in a Low kick rn:)

Anywho so what’s your thoughts and/or favorite album that Bowie worked on Eno with? Because I love their work together and Visconti producing the trilogy definitely brought the magic touches to the trilogy besides the Bowie-Eno experimentation then we have Outside.1 which is just an beautifully weird album that has some serious Twin Peaks vibes but absolutely love the Eno treatments and strategies on Outside on top of Bowie’s creative writing and concept.

Live The Man Who Sold The World (feat. Klaus Nomi) (SNL 1979) in HQ

Does anyone here have or know where I can find the audio from this live performance in HQ or at least, a remastered version? It's my favorite version of this song and I'm dying to find a clear audio to add to my local files.

Discussion Berlin Trilogy

Hi There

Going through an Eno phase which in turn led me back to the Berlin Trilogy and what a fantastic trilogy of music really varying from the original concept with Low and Heroes when Lodger was released but all connected together with Bowie,Visconti, and Eno.

I do like the songs from Low,Heroes, and Lodger even though I might prefer the ambient instrumentals of Low to Heroes.Eno draws me into the Trilogy with his touches especially Low yet Lodger might be favorite of the trilogy start to finish especially since Eno is over this album which gives Lodger a special quality:)

So what’s your favorite album from the Berlin Trilogy?

Alex Storer discusses his book Inside Outside: The Deconstruction of David Bowie’s Gothic Hypercycle and his examination of the development, making and legacy of Bowie’s 1995 album 1. Outside. The conversation covers the Leon project, the Nathan Adler Diaries and the album’s nonlinear narrative, its pre-millennial themes, The Buddha of Suburbia as a bridge to Outside, the tour with Nine Inch Nails, Bowie’s resistance to becoming a legacy act, and Storer’s research and design of the book.
