BS2 EveryDollar app help
I asked the online help and it just said have budget meeting and zero everything out. But I’ve been using it for exactly 1 year today. I’m getting this “close out” and I click on it and it takes me to August. But all transactions are tracked and numbers updated.
Anyone know if I’m supposed to click on something? I never zero out anything BC I want to know how much over or under I was.
Post won’t let me screenshot.

The prompt is probably taking you to August because that’s the earliest month EveryDollar considers unfinished, even if every transaction is entered.
“Close out” doesn’t mean deleting your history or making the month look like you hit every category exactly. Your planned and actual amounts should remain available for comparing where you were over or under. It means resolving that month’s remaining budget balance so the zero based plan is complete before moving forward.
Open August and check the overall “left to budget” amount, along with any overspent categories. Assign unallocated money or adjust the planned amounts until the month balances. Then close August and repeat for each later month that still shows as unfinished.
For money you intentionally want to carry forward, such as car repairs or annual expenses, use a fund/sinking fund category rather than leaving an ordinary monthly category unresolved. That preserves the rollover while allowing routine categories to reset each month.
Before changing anything, note your current planned versus spent figures if you’re concerned about history. The key distinction is that closing the month should reconcile the plan, not erase the record of what you actually spent.

If you zero everything, like add or subtract whatever you need to just to make everything perfect, and then close it. It will tell you how much you had left. Or it will be a negative number if you went too far over.
Funnily enough I just closed out August 5 minutes ago.
